About Kathy Rose
We are working professionals who are extremely busy with work, families, and friends. When the weekends roll around, we head up to our favorite lake 'up-north.' When we are not entertaining, we love to take advantage of the lake as we canoe, kayak, and boat.
Kathy Rose purchased this Cottage in 2008
Why Kathy Rose chose Elk
Our family has been retreating to Harper Lake for the past 30 years. We have found Harper Lake to be one of the most relaxing places to unwind and de-stress after a busy workweek. Nothing beats the soothing nature of being on the water and the tranquility of star-gazing away from city lights. In August, the aurora borealis display is awesome! We bought our cottage because it is an easy drive from home and the perfect getaway from the busyness of our normal lives.
What makes this Cottage unique
The wooded setting with the private lake frontage creates a beautiful view no matter what window we look out. Our most favorite ritual is going for a walk around the lake each morning sipping our favorite coffee. We love this location because it is surrounded by national forest and recreation areas - all of which are beautiful places to hike and walk.

Super clean, very cute cabin. Close to downtown Manistee and great hiking! Will definitely come back with our kids in the summer to enjoy the lake and all its amenities.
So glad you enjoyed your stay at White Pines Cottage on Harper Lake!
We are glad you explored Manistee - one of many places to visit and explore near here. Please come back with your kids - they will love the canoeing, paddle-boating, swimming and hunting for our plentiful turtles!
Beauty by the lake
Had a very nice time! Just didn't seem like enough time to get all we wanted to do done. By the time we got to cottage and unloaded at 3pm. We need to go to the store. Which we got lost because of no wifi in the boonies lol. But found our way. It rained most of our next whole day there. So we did not get to enjoy the lake for fishing. Which was gorgeous. It was peaceful there. And next morning was packing and cleaning to be out by 11. Just wish we could of had another night! Thank you Kathy and Roger! We hope to make up again next year for an extra night.
We are glad you had a great time! We agree with you about the peacefulness and the gorgeousness of the area. Please do come again next year and stay a little longer! Roger and Kathy
A lovely, cozy home. Great view of the lake. We love that it provided a canoe and paddle boat. Overall, great stay. We would definitely come here again. Thank you!
October is a beautiful month to visit Harper Lake and stay at White Pines Cottage! We are so glad you took advantage of the canoe and paddle boat to explore our awesome 70+ acre lake.
You are welcome back anytime!
Lovely Quiet Place in the Woods, plus lots to do
Very much enjoyed the lovely cabin, the quiet and peacefulness of the area, and the great fishing. Caught a 15" large mouth bass right off the dock at dusk. Caught several more on the lake near the swim platforms.
Fun eating spot in Irons, the Oak Grove Tavern. All the locals turned out on a Tue. for $1 hotdog night, and they had a fun 7 piece lively band. The BBQ ribs were also good.
Great supermarket/hardware store/jerky superstore, the Dublin General Store is a few miles away.
Walk around the lake, or cross the road for some hiking trails in the woods. Take a drive to Lake Michigan, we went up to Traverse City and enjoyed it.
Overall, great stay!
So glad you had fun fishing! And it is so fun you discovered one of the local eating places. Oak Grove Tavern does some really fun events throughout the year and it is always an experience!
We would love for you to stay with us again.
We had a wonderful time!
We had such a great time! The cottage and lake were so peaceful, relaxing, quiet and fun. The owners are very friendly and helpful, plus the cottage is wonderfully clean. Since the cottage is only 30 minutes from Ludington, Manistee and Lake Michigan, we expected to do quite a bit of exploring. We changed our minds once we got to the cottage, however, and spent the majority of our time at the cottage and on the lake because we had such a great time! Definitely a do-over! :)
We are so glad you had a great time!
We, of course, are prejudiced - but we think the location is perfect. We can stay "at home" and relax and enjoy the peace and quiet at the lake OR we have a short drive to all kinds of sightseeing, shopping and exploring the west coast of Michigan.
We would love for you to come again!
