About Debbie and Mark

My husband & I have been lucky enough to have this property in our family for three generations. We live in the carriage house next door. We are avid fishermen and love all 4 seasons here. We have lots of great memories of good times & friendships made over the years. Lake Winnisquam fishing is terrific: Lg & sm. mouth bass, lake trout, rainbow trout, white & yellow perch & sunfish. The wildlife is abundant. The gardens are beautiful! We love to watch the sunrise and the moon rise over the mountains across the lake. We live in a wonderful neighborhood!

Debbie and Mark purchased this chateau / country house in 1925

Why Debbie and Mark chose Sanbornton

We are so thankful that our Grandmother & Grandfather chose this spot back in 1925! Step back in time and read the old guest books and journals from 1903! It is such a beautiful location with the Million Dollar View! We are so happy to be able to spend 4 seasons here.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Relax, quiet, beautiful surroundings. The house is full of charm with sunny spacious rooms filled with history. We have two 45' HDTVs, one in the living room and one in the master bedroom. We have an apple tree, and fresh beautiful flowers & herbs surrounding the property, ready for picking! We enjoy feeding the birds and watching them nest in the houses by the lake.

During Winter we ice fish in front of the house, x-country ski, downhill ski/tubing, snowmobile to Canada from our front yard/snowshoe the woods exploring animal tracks along the brook.

Beautiful home, very clean & had everything we needed. Owners were very polite & available if needed but provided us our privacy. We enjoyed our stay very much even though the weather was not the best. Being cooped up was not an issue as there was plenty of room & seating for everyone to enjoy games, meals & each other’s company!

CAMP WESTWOOD on Lake Winnisquam has provided Mrs. Anderson and me a beautiful respite in New Hampshire -- comfortably away from the heat and humidity of South West Florida (Marco Island) during the summer. The property is very well maintained and extraordinarily well equipped for anyone and everyone's enjoyment. The Lake House has four bedrooms and three bathrooms allowing a wide range of guests and relatives to come and go. It goes without saying the ambiance balanced with the comfort of the lake is perfect for two people (as are we) and ideal for the extended family of adults and kids --- long lost relatives ? --- who may find their way to drop-in for a visit of a few days or a few weeks.

There is every opportunity to dine inside with class and comfort from breakfast to dinner. And when the mood prevails within 20 minutes of the Lake there are many restaurants ranging from five star to outdoor seating and fresh seafood. You pick your place on any given day.

And on any other "given day" when you're not in the swimming, boating or just plain relaxing mode...that is afforded during your stay...there is always a ride to Manchester --- the Queen City --- two hours to Boston --- an hour to beautiful Mount Washington --- two hours to the New Hampshire Seacoast ---- a couple hours to view moose in Pittsburg and and extra hour beyond that to drop in to Montreal.

Mark and Debbie are profusely prepared to make your stay at their Lake House a memorable occasion during any season of the year.

They are the consummate "family" members who fit right in to work with you on any day at any time as you enjoy Lake Winnisquam and New Hampshire at its finest on a quiet (4100 acres) body of water uncluttered by noisy and screaming motor boats yet infused with loons and ducks and lots of fish of all kinds.

The time to enjoy Lake Winnisquam and the hospitality of Mark and Debbie is today. Don't delay !

Perfect in Every Way!

  • 5 of 5

Cheers to Debbie and Mark who rock this house on Lake Winnisquam! Their Camp Westwood would get six stars if possible. My siblings rented the house for a Celebration of Life for our 94-year old mom, and it surpassed our expectations. We rolled in on a Thursday, had to prep for the CofL on Saturday. The squirrels entertained us as they jumped from Adirondack chairs to birdfeeders. The comfortable and spacious house was just right for this event. As one of our family members said, "The house was full of so much love!" Yes. What impressed us is that Debbie and Mark had seen to every detail in the house, making it perfect for a gathering. They were an extraordinary help through an emotional time. They made us feel as if it were our home. Many of our family and friends ooh'd and ah'd over the place and asked for rental info. Loons floated by in the early morning. Songbirds serenaded us just before the sun rose. Flowering bushes surround the house, a quiet location on Lake Winnisquam. If it had been a little warmer (were there from May 17-23), we would have been swimming in the lake. Everything you need (groceries, lobster, fitness center, bar) is within a few miles. Buy your shellfish from the business at the end of Lower Bay Road next to the market. Also, we were able to hook up our computers to the living room TV for a slideshow to commemorate mom. Everything we needed was at hand. And whenever we needed help, Debbie and Mark were there. Give your family a great getaway and make Camp Westwood your next destination. You'll love it.

Renter beware

  • 2 of 5

The home is nice, the A/C is great. The wooden doors were swollen so opening and closing one of the bedroom doors was like a wresting match. It is pricey but you don't have to worry about sheets and such which is helpful. Owners live on site which we were not aware of until shortly before our trip. They seemed like nice people and tried to make you feel like a guest. Everything seemed to go OK. Over a week later after they had another family rent they filed a claim on us to the insurance company for a broken crisper drawer in the fridge. The shelf in the fridge had issues when we got there, we didn't investigate what was the issue just stocked our food in the fridge to enjoy our vacation. It froze our food all week long and ruined any produce we had. I have not received any communication from the owners asking about the drawer before they decided to blame it on us.

Owner's Response: I am sorry the renters were so unhappy with our lake house. After a few days they complained the bath tub wouldn't drain. My husband immediately went up and saw they had the drain in the closed position. He showed them how to open and close the drain. At that time the wooden door was not sticking. Only when they were leaving did they mention the bathroom door was "a little sticky". We checked and the door was not sticking. He checked all the doors and they all open and close fine. We have listed on our VRBO website, under owner information, that "we live next door in the carriage house". It isn't a secret. I never realized they thought this was an issue. We try to give every guest their privacy. We stay on our side and work in the veggy garden. We have our own dock and swimming area away from the lake house. The cleaners came in a few minutes after the renters left and showed me the crisper drawer was cracked. The freezer was turned down as cold as it can go. This froze the refrigerator too. I turned the temp to normal and it works fine. I took pictures, researched where to purchase a replacement, and sent it to CSA. The renter had purchased the $59 accidental insurance policy thru CSA and I put in a claim to replace the drawer. This was not a charge to the renters. I am sorry their food froze all week. I don't know why they didn't tell us. If they had we would have fixed it immediately. We try very hard to keep our lake house in good condition. We inspect everything each week and repair problems as soon as we see them.
