About Blondie

We have been living on The Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica collectively for for 39 + years. We can help you with travel, rental car and domestic airfare with no additional fees and make your trip to the Osa a special one. Private chef services also available. Feel free to call us anytime at USA 508-714-0622 or in Costa Rica call 011-506-8378-3013 but ALWAYS follow up with email as we don't always get phone calls if we are not near the phone. We ALWAYS get email!

Blondie purchased this house in 1997

Why Blondie chose Costa Rica

The beaches on the OSA are deserted and breath taking. We love being so close but elevated above where cooler breezes prevail and we escape the bugs at the beach which are BRUTAL. And it is cooler up here off the chocolate colored volcanic sands which hold heat. At the reserve, we are where rainforest meets sea and get the cool breezes from the rain forest and not the hot air from that dark sand. No kidding, you CANNOT walk on that sand until you get to the water line. We escape all of that heat.

What makes this house unique

Having over 120+ acres of rainforest and pristine jungle gives us the opportunity of living with nature without the inconveniences of being far to go out. Corcovado National Pak is literally our back yard and guests can hike there with a guide where no other tourists go. We have no neighbors unless you count the wildlife! Therefore, unlike most communities on the OSA peninsula, you get complete and total privacy. But are an easy drive on paved road to town for restaurants, entertainment, gas station, grocery store. The other Osa peninsula vacation lodging is on a VERY rut filled, washboard, no bridges over rivers and expedition style, 4 wheel only roads. Not easy nor quick for going out to dinner. At the reserve you can go out and back with easy access and no bumpy roads. Save the expedition roads for a day trip- you'll see what I mean when you get here! We love feeling totally isolated but being an easy drive to going out. You will too!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Taken from our FlipKey/TripAdvisor review from this guest:

I traveled to Costa Rica for a wedding for 9 days with family & friends. Though you can rent each home individually, we had all of them on the 120 acre reserve. The houses are all on different sides of the property so there was lots of privacy. Had we not been family & friends, we would never have run into other guests! Almost every day we had monkeys & so many birds- I have never seen such an abundance of wildlife- all right there! Everything was included in my trip for the wedding at this Tree House reserve, which made it very convenient! I went zip lining, kayaking, and even went swimming with dolphins! It was all included along with meals. I also had a great experience hiking to a 68 ft. tree, climbing it and finally jumping from it. Overall my experience in Costa Rica is one I will never forget!!!

Unique adventure

  • 4 of 5

Well, once we found it, things improved. The directions were by no means clear and there are no signs to help. The road in is HORRIBLE & SCARY and we turned back a couple of times before we decided this had to be it. 4x4 vehicle is a MUST since the road is very rough and full of good size rocks. One part of the road is washed out near a stream that is 12 feet below the road and there is just enough for the vehicle to pass. We finally found the locked gate and the key was on the opposite side from where we were told we would find it. Owner met us at the parking spot and he helped us with our luggage. It was the only time we saw him all week. A house keeper (Anna) came mid-week to change bedding etc... We did not see any monkeys at the tree house all week but we were gone a lot. Every morning around 4 am the howler monkeys began their noises but we never saw them. There were insects all the time but despite the size of some, they were harmless. No mosquitoes while we were there. We used the netting over the bed where the two college girls slept because the bugs freaked them out. Some tiny ants occupied the second level bedroom, so the girls slept in the bed pictured on the main level. Showers worked well, limited hot water but as warm as the weather was we did not need it. There were some bats occupying cool dark areas of the Tree House but they did not bother us other than some droppings on one counter. We did not find a microwave to use and the safe key did not work. The flush toilets worked well, as did the range & refrigerator/freezer. Overall, I would suggest that the listing be updated to reflect the fact that the road in is very rough and a 4x4 would be needed and time frames be adjusted. It took a good 10 minutes to get from the highway to the Tree House. Puerto Jimenez is another 10-12 minutes once you reach the highway. The property was indeed clean. Wifi worked well but it was slow, so don't plan on streaming or doing lots of complex work via the internet. Communications with Blondie were not the best. We got some messages that were actually not for us and several messages that she said that were sent to us never arrived. But it all worked out. Blondie did provide a great deal of help arranging for our car and booking a couple of tours for us. This is an opportunity for a great adventure. Those who don't like insects or bats will freak out but you won't need an alarm clock. The howler monkeys will see to that.

Amazing Tree House

  • 5 of 5

We are a group of 5 adults, well travelled in Central and South America, and have just returned from Michael and Blondie's amazing tree house. We surfed VRBO (HomeAway) looking for a unique experience for this year's trip, came across the Tree House, and knew that was where we wanted to stay, so it was off to Osa for us. You don't have to be a bird and wildlife enthusiast to enjoy this location - just go, relax and enjoy cocktails in the most amazing house you've ever stayed in! We loved every minute - and the pictures do not do it justice. Our only regret is that it did not rain (really) as we wanted to enjoy it from our tree. We were close enough to beach life and other attractions (need a car) yet tucked away in the rain forest in a remote but safe location. We were surprised to know that there had been other visitors in a house nearby - we had no idea anyone else was there - it was totally private - especially reassuring when using the outdoor shower! A truly fantastic vacation. Tree House bucket list, check! Now, how can we possibly top this next year?

Great experience

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful time experiencing the tree house and the jungle around us. Took a little while for the kids to adjust to the nature around them. Mornings were the best-it was great waking up to all of the sounds of the jungle, having coffee with the macaws, toucans, monkeys, butterflies and various insects. An experience of a lifetime. Do keep in mind that this is the jungle. If you do not like bugs or wildlife you may need to make adjustments! The listing was accurate in description. Property was clean, well maintained, caregivers Anna and Humberto were lovely people. Owners Blondie and Mike were a wonderful resource while planning our trip before we arrived and planning activities once we had arrived at the treehouse. One of the highlights of our trip was our day hike in La Tarde with guide Mike Boston. The swim at the end of the day in the river was pretty terrific too! Loved the bar b que dinner buffet at Iguana lodge on Tuesday, Italian night on Friday. The beach in front of the Iguana lodge was our favorite for swimming and spending the afternoon in the sun. Pizzamailit had great food also!

A beautiful rainforest immersion experience!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in the tree house was a beautiful adventure. Blondie was very helpful planning our excursions. It is quite secluded, and the town near the home was truly Costa Rican, without the touristy feeling of many other areas. The little dipping pool was refreshing, and our children loved the adventure outside every door and window. The sounds of nature were all around, and the beautiful rainforest surrounding the home is beautiful, authentic, and so easy to experience. The caretaker, Wilbur, was a wonderful rainforest guide, and the waterfall hike was perfect for our family! Be prepared to keep caveman hours (down with the sun, up with the sun), and to appreciate the quiet, solitary environment - it isn't for everyone, but we couldn't be happier that we skipped the orchestrated eco-tours so many others have taken for a real and authentic trek into the life of the Osa Penninsula. We would not recommend the Poas Volcano and La Paz Waterfall tour from San Jose. While our driver, Erik, was wonderful and gracious, and truly knowledgeable, the tours were a terrible way to end a trip filled with authentic and lively interactions in Puerto Jimenez and the forest. We really enjoyed our authentic jungle stay, and will have one foot in the rainforest for a long time!

Truly unique experience

  • 5 of 5

The tree house was great. Highly recommended. We had daily visits from monkeys and really enjoyed the natural setting. Puerto Jimenez is a quick and easy drive and the local folks were all nice & friendly. We travelled to other parts of the country and the Osa was our favorite area. We were 2 adults and 2 kids (11 and 13). We rented a car in San jose and drove down via Jaco/Quepos.
