Kind of disappointing

This house has great potential, however the owner has it available for rent when there are numerous issues that need to be fixed. We were notified about two weeks ahead of time that the heat was broken in part of the house. The owner told me if I wanted to cancel, they would understand. Cancelling my rental would mean cancelling our whole Thanksgiving family vacation. Since we had already exhausted our search for another house, we decided to buy a couple space heaters and keep the rental plan. The game room, which was one of the most looked forward to parts of the listing (and the area that had no heat) smelled like mildew, probably due to a doorway covered with a stapled piece of fabric leading to an outside storage space. I'm assuming it's under construction. Our space heaters were not enough to change the temperature in the room but thankfully it was a relatively mild November so we got lucky there. When we arrived there was a note from the cleaning person that the fireplace repair person hadn't shown up yet and to please let him in to work on the fireplace when he arrives. (He was a no-show so we didn't have to deal with that, but also didn't have a working fireplace) Our first night, getting everyone ready for bed we realized that while the house was listed as sleeps ten, we could only find eight beds. Tried to reach the owner but didn't hear back, so my son slept on the floor and my nephew slept on a couch. The next day the owner told me that the previous renters had broken the bunk beds the weekend before so now there were only 8 beds, but there were blow up beds we could use. So we squeezed one blow up bed into my bedroom and the other in the middle of the living room in front of the broken fireplace. The outer glass to the oven door was missing, which made for cooking Thanksgiving dinner quite challenging because it would spring shut if you didn't use two people to take things in and out. Thankfully we didn't have any toddlers with us because it was a burn hazard for hands. Another problem was the water. It had such a strong iron smell that we didn't even want to cook with it or drink it and taking a shower was not enjoyable. I feel bad leaving a negative review but I feel that this house needs a lot of attention before it should be rented out again. The location is great and the views are beautiful, and the house has great potential of the owner would repair and finish renovations before continuing to rent.
