Turning Point, a Terrific Hatteras Rental!
Sat. - Sat. Rental
True Rental By Owner (no link to a property management company with extra fees). Feel free to contact me (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have any questions about the home.
Turning Point is located in the quiet, picturesque, family-friendly Brigands' Bay neighborhood, which has scenic views, gnarled old live oak trees, Pamlico Sound access, and is perfect for walkers, runners, bikers, kayakers, and kids.
We don’t have any fancy stuff -- no hot tub, pool, game room, home theater, or video library.
We do have a comfortable, homey Hatteras beach cottage that is light and airy with warm juniper paneled walls and a cathedral ceiling in the great room. The rooms are large, and the furnishings are tasteful. You won’t feel crowded here.
The large great room has sliding glass doors that open onto a deck and onto a large, furnished screened porch. The big kitchen has ample counter, cabinet, and pantry space, a spacious island, and is very well stocked with everything you will need for your stay.
There are three bedrooms and two full baths. The master bedroom and bath are downstairs and two bedrooms, with another bath in between, open onto an upstairs balcony. The master has a queen bed and tv. One bedroom upstairs room has a queen and pullout sofa, the other bedroom has two sets of bunk beds.
There is a large, LED flat screen TV with cable and Wi-Fi service and shelves of books, games, and jigsaw puzzles.
You can fish and crab from the dock on the canal with its fish-cleaning table and bench. You can tie up your boat at the dock and have access to the Pamlico Sound for more fishing, crabbing, and clamming, or just exploring the shore. There is also a two-person kayak at the house for exploring the Pamlico Sound.
Turning Point is a Shore Details house, which is an added value to you. Not only will the folks at Shore Details make sure your beds are made with fresh sheets and the house is clean when you arrive (and clean up after you when you leave), but they are also available to help with personal concierge services at no charge to you. They are ready to answer all your questions and help plan the perfect vacation, such as excursions to charter fishing, eco-tours, or sunset cruises. They are also available to help with any maintenance issues that may arise during your stay. In addition, for a fee you can have groceries stocked before you arrive or have a pre-cooked dinner delivered to your cottage.
We cater to folks who want to come “and sit a while.” Turning Point is affordable for those who want to come and stay for several weeks. The basic weekly rental is among the most reasonable around.
Come to Turning Point and enjoy the laid-back island lifestyle at its best – for as long as you can stay!

About Kathleen Andres
Our mother purchased property in Brigands' Bay in 1983 after vacationing there annually for a decade and visiting some while growing up. She built Turning Point in 1990. She passed away suddenly in March 2017, so my brother and I are now maintaining the home we have grown to love. She lived a few houses down the street and loved sharing her home and the island with visitors. Here is her story, because it is truly "her story." In December, 1989, just before a record-breaking blizzard at the seashore, the pilings for the house were put in. The cottage was completed in March, 1990. I had been coming to Hatteras Island since the mid-'70s, since my two children were youngsters. I'd always wanted a house here and now I had one. It's beautiful, and I'm still proud of it. Ironically, I have never lived in it. The year after the cottage was completed, I had a real Turning Point in my life. I left my job as an editor at a big city newspaper in Louisville, Ky., got married to a Hatteras islander, and moved to the seashore. I live on the same street as Turning Point in my husband's house. My two children who grew up knowing nothing but Hatteras beach vacations are now adults and the summers at Hatteras tradition continues with my nine grandchildren, as well as my brother and sister and their children and grandchildren. They love Hatteras and Brigands' Bay just as much as their grandmother and parents. We have built many family memories here.

Why Kathleen Andres chose Dare County
Brigands' Bay is, in my view, Hatteras Island's premier waterfront neighborhood. It is a true neighborhood, a mixture of permanent residents and rentals, all well maintained. The neighborhood of canals and creeks and marsh and gnarled liveoaks is the best place to enjoy all that Hatteras has to offer. It's right in the middle of the lovely Cape Hatteras National Seashore with easy access to beaches, fishing, the Hatteras charter boat fleet, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, surfing, windsurfing, hiking trials in the Buxton Woods Maritime Forest, and many, many other recreational opportunities.
What makes this House unique
Turning Point is located on a picturesque canal with direct access to the Pamlico Sound. You can sit on the bench at the dock and fish and crab or if you have a boat, you can tie it up here and have easy access for the sound for more fishing and crabbing opportunities, clamming, water sports, or just seeing the sights. It's quiet and it's peaceful, the way a Hatteras vacation should be.

Peace and comfort
There is nothing we would change about our stay at Turning Point. It was all we could ask for and we hope to have the chance to build more memories there in the future. The host was great, the house provides for relaxation and all you need to stay away from home.
Our time at "Turning Point" was delightful! My family and I had a wonderful time and the cottage was perfect! We had everything we needed at our fingertips and more. The cottage is well stocked with everything you will need for a week or more. We loved the space and the large bedrooms and baths. The deck was perfect for watching the sunsets. It was a great trip and we can't wait to return next year!
A wonderful place for a family vacation
We stayed at Turning Point for 2 weeks the first of June 2017. This was our second time there and we loved it as much as the first! Great floor plan for our family of 4. Since it is pet friendly, it was the perfect option for our stay. The house was clean, had beautiful furnishings, wonderful outdoor shower! We were able to walk and jog in the neighborhood; folks were very friendly. We have friends in the Buxton/Frisco area so were close to them. Just a very special place to us! Can't wait to return! Love Turning Point and rhighly recommend it!
Peaceful, Clean, Holiday Retreat for our Family
We stayed at Turning Point mid-June 2016. This was our first vacation together as a family and we had a wonderful time. The dock against the canal was a bonus and the neighborhood was quiet. This pet friendly house was clean, in beautiful condition, and had a lovely open floor plan. Beach access was just a short drive down the road. There is a 2 person kayak at the house which was great since we were unable to bring ours. The weekly price of the home was affordable. We will be coming back to Turning Point in the future and certainly recommend this home to people of all ages! Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home!
Prefect place to make memories!
Our family, and our family dog, had a wonderful week at Turning Point! We had fun kayaking, fishing, crabbing, cooking, and playing board games (in the evening) at the house. The kitchen is stocked better than any rental home we've ever stayed at (including a yearly timeshare). Everything is comfortable and clean and our children (9 & 11) LOVED being there. We love The Scotch Bonnet (fudge & gifts), the local bait shop just past Scotch Bonnet, ABX auto repair, the lighthouse, FRISCO SANDWICH CO., The Mad Crabber, Lighthouse beach for shells, playing in the sound, and in general how it is still a fairly uncommercial area! Our favorite spots away from the house are Sandy Bay on the sound side, Pony Beach, Scotch Bonnet, & Frisco Sandwich Co. Additionally, you couldn't ask for a better person to rent from, Irene is ALWAYS quick to respond and a wealth of information! We would have stayed a month if time and rental availability allowed!
Love this place!
My husband and I spent two weeks at Turning Point in May. The house, located in a quiet residential neighborhood, is well maintained, clean and the kitchen is equipped with just about everything you could possibly want or need. The 'beachy' decor, multiple sliding glass doors, and great room with its high ceiling make this a very bright, airy and attractive house. There's a large deck overlooking the canal, a screened-in porch, numerous board games and shelves of books (both fiction and non-fiction) for your enjoyment. There's lots of empty drawer/cabinet/closet space to store all your belongings.
We've been vacationing on Hatteras Island in various locations for over two decades but this is the first time we've stayed in Frisco. We loved the area and especially appreciated the friendly service and local fishing tips and advice from the guys at Bob's Frisco Tackle and Convenience just south on Rt. 12. My husband is a surf fisherman and used Ramps 49 in Frisco and 55 in Hatteras Village to drive onto the beach. Both of these areas also have parking areas and walkways to the beach if you don't have an ORV permit.
Irene knows a great deal about the area and responded to all our questions and concerns quickly. We've already made our reservation to stay again in the fall and hope to continue staying at Turning Point in the future.
