Privacy at the Beach

Avoid Saturday traffic issues. This is a SUNDAY to SUNDAY rental!

Clean, bright, and comfortable, this is one of the few remaining traditional beach boxes in Hatteras Colony! The lower deck is spacious. The upper deck covers the top 1/2 of the house where you can view the spectacular Atlantic Ocean! Our home is loved and well cared for!!

Welcome to 'Our Escape Hatch'. Amply named considering the privacy you'll feel with trees separating you from 'the rest of the world'. This SUNDAY to SUNDAY rental is perfect for a small family or couples wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of daily living. This home was purchased to relax in and share good times with friends and family.

Our cottage is the third lot from the ocean!! With direct access, it's only an approximate 200 yard walk to the dune line and beach!

'Our Escape Hatch' is a simple home, but well maintained, loved, and beautifully decorated for those just 'wanting to get away'. In our years of ownership, very few bells and whistles have been added - intentionally!! However, in the living room, you can expect a Smart TV with cable and a DVD player. Bring your favorite movies or rent them at a near by Red Box. There is a smaller TV in two of the three bedrooms. Wireless Internet is also available. A stereo is there for your CD's or listen to local radio. Ceiling fans are in all three bedrooms, the kitchen, and living room. There is a king bed in one bedroom, a queen bed in another, and a double bed in the third bedroom. This home is meant for relaxation, for beach, and outdoor activity lovers!

Enjoy the diversity the Outer Banks of North Carolina offers. There is surf fishing (NC license is required) or the Rodanthe Fishing Pier is just a couple of miles away (no license required for pier fishing). There is also charter fishing from Oregon Inlet or Hatteras Village. If water sports are your plans you are in the right place! You may want to climb the famous Hatteras Lighthouse a few miles south of Salvo or horseback ride in nearby Buxton. There are nature trails to explore at the Pea Island Welcome Center. End your day with a walk on the beach and a dinner prepared on the charcoal grill. For dessert, bring your flashlight for a moonlight walk on the beach and experience breathtaking starlit nights!

On the gentler side, if you want a 'night out', there are many wonderful restaurants nearby. Spa Koru offers a work-out facility or pamper yourself with a message, pedicure or manicure - only a short distance away in Avon. Just a 45-minute drive is a free ferry from Hatteras Village to Ocracoke where you can browse through shops filled with local art, enjoy fresh North Carolina seafood on an outdoor deck, or take a family bike tour of this quaint fishing village.

You can spend a week or a lifetime on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and never see or experience everything this area offers. Don't forget your want to capture the good times and beauty of what your time here holds.

Great house and location

The house location is a short walk to the beach. The house has multiple updates that make it comfortable for your stay. The house was clean and the beds comfortable . The access to the roof deck had a nice view and breeze and was comfortable to relax on. Plan to stay there again.

First VRBO Stay

This was our first time staying in a VRBO home. The homeowner was wonderful at preparing us for our stay! We were so thankful to have found their home for a last minute vacation! We will definitely be booking with them in the future.

Perfect vacation

Perfect spot for a couple or small family. The new furnishings are great! Kitchen is well stocked and we loved hanging on the deck in the evenings, very peaceful neighborhood!

A Quaint Escape Hatch

Very impressed. A lot of cosmetic changes to property - that was a great surprise!! Very easy access to beach and not a far walk at all. Very quiet neighborhood. A great neighborhood for walking or riding bikes. We are beach bums so if you like the peace and quiet and need a place to unwind and relax, Our Escape Hatch is perfect. If you like to fish, Reel ‘Em In in Salvo with Captain Mark and Ryan was awesome on the sound.

Fantastic location, owner couldn’t have been better!

The title says it all! Amazing location, the owner was prompt and friendly for any and all needs. Property was perfect, not too much and not too little. Exactly what we wanted, with a little privacy (yet super close to the beach) too boot. We are absolutely planning to rent here again next year, but for much longer!!!

Escape hatch stay

Wonderful place to stay!! Amenities were perfect all that you would need. Beds were super comfy! Rooftop deck was amazing at sunset. Beach access was really close by. Awesome place to stay with family.

Excellent experience

Salvo is a really good location - you have access to both the ocean and the sound without staying in the midst of the more chaotic areas to the north. We had a few more neighbors than expected but the short walk to the beach was nice and we drove 2 minutes down the road to the day use area along the sound and enjoyed the peaceful water where the kids could swim. Highly recommend doing a charter fishing trip in Hatteras. We caught 51 pounds of fish in a few hours and even enjoyed a group of porpoise swimming alongside our boat. It was a pretty amazing experience! Enjoyed Duck Donuts while there and a couple of good seafood restaurants while on our trip. Also a campfire and sunrise by the ocean were truly a worthwhile experience. The home provided everything we needed for our family of five. Gracious hosts. Excellent communication and information provided up front. Would definitely recommend.

Miss “our escape hatch” already

The house was very clean upon our arrival. The fully stocked kitchen with was perfect. Made cooking and serving easy. My family and I had a wonderful time. The pictures do not do the property justice. The upper deck was perfect for watching the meteor shower and star gazing.

Great neighborhood and amenities

Had a great stay in this beach house! No problems. Beach is a long walk, but very nice. There is no dishwasher, but we mainly used paper products. Roof deck is amazing! Arrived on the 4th of July and saw several firework displays. The streets are all flat and made riding bikes very fun. There is enough stores close by to meet your shopping needs. The washing machines are under the house. At first, we couldn't find them inside but read the notebook folder and located them. Thanks, Dale!

Clean, well stocked small house

We really enjoyed our week at the beach here. This house was perfect for our needs and the owner is so nice. It was clean and the kitchen was so well stocked. We would definitely rent again!

Perfect size

We had a great time staying at The Escape Hatch. The house was exactly as described. It was super clean and the rooftop deck was amazing!! The walk to the beach was a little further than I expected but it is the same for all the houses. This particular area isn’t directly on the beach. Overall the location was convenient to a few grocer’s as well as restaurants. This place was a gem!

Relax and eacape

This is a neat and tidy beach house close to the ocean. We walked to the beach everyday. Unwinding in the evening on the roof deck, listening g to the ocean offered a unique escape from a busy life! This property offers everything any one needs to enjoy a week at the beach!

Great vacation

We really enjoyed our week stay. The house had everything that we needed. The nearby ocean beach and calmer sound beach were both great uncrowded swimming options. The area has enough food and recreation options without being overcrowded. We also prepared our own meals often in the well stocked kitchen.

Wow, that was fun!!

Our family had an amazing week at "Our Escape Hatch". The weather was perfect in June. The beach was just a short walk away and was beautiful. Sometimes we felt we had it all to ourselves. The house was comfortable and cozy, and the decks were a really nice feature. Our pets really enjoyed their stay as well. "Our Escape Hatch" made our first trip to the Outer Banks very memorable. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Perfect Cottage

My family and I had a wonderful time at Our Escape Hatch! The cottage was the perfect size for the three of us and our golden retriever and it felt like home very quickly! The house is located in a cul-de-sac right off of a quiet street and close to the beach access. This cottage is clean, well- equipped and very comfortable. Dale couldn't have been more helpful in answering our questions and she even e-mailed us at the beginning of our stay to see if we needed anything. Our favorite part of this cottage was the rooftop deck. We spent every evening there! We would not hesitate to recommend this great escape and hope to stay there again.

Wonderful Relaxing Vacation Ever

My husband, son(8), daughter(3) and I just got back from the Our Escape Hatch(OEH) yesterday. We miss it already. The house is exactly as it appears in the picture. The lighthouse decorations throughout the house was charming and made us feel welcomed. Bed & sofa were comfortable and kitchen was well stocked with gadgets. Although there are three bedrooms, we cozy-ed up in the bedroom with wall-tv every night. But the smart tv for the rainy afternoon was awesome. We were able to walked to the beach everyday. The beach was not crowded and some days so empty that made us feel like we rented the whole shore. It was such a great relaxing vacation and I feel so lucky to have found this place. Thank you Dale for sharing your home and making the whole process so easy and effortless. We will be back!

Terrific Escape right near the beach

Our family just wrapped up our 4th of July vacation at Our Escape Hatch and Dale made the process easy and the house was wonderful. Everything described in the listing matched the physical property and the entire unit was clean upon our arrival. The proximity to the beach was perfect and there was plenty of room to spread out and take advantage of the perfect water. We also took time to travel around the Outer Banks and visit other beaches, including the inlet side. We would highly recommend this to others who have a family and an out-going dog to consider this house as your home base for a vacation. Thanks Dale!

As a little girl living in Georgia and before Dale actually saw the ocean 'in person' she knew she wanted to live at the beach. Never in her wildest dreams did she ever imagine she'd have the chance! However, in December of 1999, an offer she and Joe couldn't refuse came along and the rest is history. For the past nineteen years, both Dale & Joe have thoroughly enjoyed their little home and immediately realized it was the perfect way to escape, appropriately naming it 'Our Escape Hatch'.

The beach is approximately 200 yards from Our Escape Hatch with direct access! Salvo is the perfect location for relaxing on the beach. It's never crowded and the area is family-oriented. It's quiet, but abounds with fun activities nearby or within a short driving distance.

Our Escape Hatch is a small, but well maintained and beautifully decorated beach cottage. The kitchen bar is a perfect spot to share freshly cooked seafood with friends and family. The large outside decks are meant for sunbathing, reading a good book, or sharing a cocktail in the evenings. From the top deck, watch the sun rise over the ocean in the morning or in the evening watch it slowly sink toward the sound. Do yourself a favor and walk or drive over to the sound to see the dramatic sunset.
