Why Eric Doepke chose Upper Peninsula

The North Woods, the Lake Huron waves over the scenic endlessness is healthfully therapeutic. Our Family enjoys the abundant natural features... the loons especially.

Delicious fresh white fish is available from Village fishermen.

The family re-sets toward games, conversations and relaxing

...a REAL VACATION reconnects in a special place in a special way. Our nature CD's are used back home to continue the children's sleep encouragement.

What makes this house unique

We offer our retreat to your family, make time for the FAMILY GETAWAY NOW.

The Camp Fire on the Beach shoreline, the smores, the moonlight on the water create everlasting moments.

The moment we get off the road we hear the waves at the shore, we begin healing our core self.

Enjoying Just Being Together.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The weather was picture perfect the entire week. The view of the lake was breathtaking. The sand bar was great to walk through. I cannot believe how far we could walk out in the lake without getting very wet. The water was warm and very clear-unlike the Atlantic Ocean.

Everone in my family repeatedly kept saying how much they liked being there. I wanted a place that was peaceful and away from the crowds.

Being there was exactly what we needed.

I loved watching the humming birds. I fed them twice. They are so fascinating. I feel very blessed to enjoy our week at your home on the lake.

We would love to stay at Camp Huron again in the near future. Thank you very much for sharing your home with us. We had a fabulous week!

Very Disappointed

  • 1 of 5

The lower level of the house smelled of Mildew and Mold. The first night we arrived my daughter was in the bedroom off the kitchen and a mouse ran over her foot. We ended up having to set traps and dump them everyday with dead mice. The beach was ok. There really wasn't a place to play in sand for the kids because it was mostly overgrown with weeds.

Peaceful and beautiful setting

  • 3 of 5

The location and setting of this rental makes it a desirable one. We were within 15 minutes of the two closest towns either way. We were able to experience some good restaurants, ORVing on Drummond island and nearby trails near DeTour and fishing spots in and around the Les Chaneaux islands and northwards.

The home itself is a mid century type of design with a good sized kitchen, as well as good sized rooms elsewhere in the home. Every room that faces the big Huron lake has a beautiful framed view. While the house on the inside is in remarkably preserved condition, I would suggest A few things that require some TLC: the exterior of the home and landscaping. The interior could use some updating in the decor, fix ceiling tiles and some good cooking and bbqing utensils.

All this taken into account is the reason for the average rating.

Beautiful Sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed a relaxing vacation in this spacious beach home surrounded by all of the beauty mother nature provides. The home is large, clean, and fully equipped with more than you would need. I immediately felt at ease and at home. The views are breathtaking! Trees, plants, the lakefront, butterflies, and hummingbirds! At night, with the lights off, stars shined like glitter all across the huge sky. Upon walking toward the beach you will see a lot of rocks(which lend a very secluded remote island feel). If you just head down the beach to the right(not far by any means), there is an expansive fine sandy beach. The water was crystal clear, no seaweed or moss in that area and the water was at waist level very far out. This would be great if you had little ones learning to swim. I could have stayed in the water or relaxing on that beach the entire trip. There was even one magic spot that I could get phone service on the beach briefly- the lack of internet or cell phone service was the only downside for a couple of members of our party(two girls ages 14 and 15). I however, loved that my work email couldn't come through all the time! We did venture out a little ( "downtown" DeTour Village is not far), but overall, we hung out, ate meals as a family, played Uno, swam, and connected with each other. I am just so thankful we took this trip and stayed here. It was perfect!

Owner's Response: "Make Memories"...you cetainly did! Sharing family presence with Mother Nature's surroundings, as you sensed "spacious, breathtaking" exhilaration. Your writing conveys to me the beautiful moments of re-connective spirit. I hear the waves. You give voice to the creative well-spring within. Your lively writing evidently springs from heart felt treasures. Families are amazed as restorative diverse moments of Camp Huron's healing experience. May it last. Camp Huron is grateful for your presence and the gifts bestowed. Enjoy the journey. BeWell

Nice quite place away from the hussle and bussle, great beaches, towns less than 20 min. away, lots of room for big family and dog. We had a nice time.

Disappointing!

  • 1 of 5

Very disappointing! The home is very outdated. The lake view is very obstructed with overgrown brush. Does not have 2 king beds as mentioned in ad. Kitchen poorly stocked with old appliances, rusty kitchen utensils, and tons of old spices...yuk! Leaking faucets and toilets, and rusty, unusable charcoal grill. Strong mildew odor fills the lower level.....wouldn't recommend.

Owner's Response: Many very pleased diverse visitors over the years is most rewarding.'Make the comforts of our home yours' works well. Very grateful to provide a presence for gathered family members making fond memories together. Return visits of growing families point to the enduring quality of enjoyment experienced by most at CAMP HURON. Helpful advice from our visiting families is always appreciated.
