Overview

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

This beachfront cottage is the absolute best in the Lake Macatawa area. From the spacious deck, it’s just three steps to the beautiful beach of Lake Michigan. Lake Macatawa is only a couple of hundred yards on the other side.

The cottage is located in a private, gated enclave of luxurious homes. It has four bedrooms, and sleeps ten. It has been recently remodeled and is extremely well equipped for your enjoyment.

If you bring a boat, docking is available on Lake Macatawa (at an additional charge)

Macatawa Beach on the shores of Lake Michigan is possibly the most picturesque of all places on the "Big Lake". Picture this: a National Landmark Red Lighthouse, beaches that rival the best that Florida has to offer, a gated community on a small peninsula, Lake Macatawa behind the cottages no more than 200 yards away. The Victorian cottages that dot this shore line, the cool breezes off the Lake keeping temperatures always pleasant, even on the hottest of August days make this location the perfect get away place.

L.Frank Baum, the author of the Wizard of Oz knew of this spot one hundred years ago. The "Dorothy" from his book was named for one of the little girls there.

From the deck, it’s entertaining to watch ocean going freighters that travel once or twice a day past the light house, through the channel and then four miles further East docking at the town of Holland.

The village of Sagutuck is eight miles South. It’s filled with special shops and restaurants. The Town of Holland itself is unusually quaint and was judged to be the second most friendly community in America.

The Dutch settled Western Michigan in the 1800's........it is fun to watch how some of their different attitudes remain to this day. The Amway owners spend their summers there as do many from St. Louis, Detroit, Indianapolis, Chicago (two hours by car away), Grand Rapids and even from places in Pennsylvania, Texas and beyond.

Family Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We were so fortunate to stay in this amazing house! My husband and I, along with our children and grandchildren, spent a glorious week enjoying every moment on the fabulous beach. The open living space was perfect for our large group, and we especially appreciated the comfy furnishings when it was time to curl up with a book at the end of the day. The kitchen was perfect for multiple cooks ... lots of room to share the meal preparation. It was such a treat to sit on the deck each night to enjoy the sunset while the children played on the sand with their newfound friends. Our week was so perfect that we have already reserved our week for next summer! Thank you for sharing your paradise with us!

Incomparable setting!

  • 5 of 5

I'm from a family of 7 siblings (6 sisters and 1 brother). Every year for the past 20 years the sisters (our brother would join us now and then for a night which he did this year) have met somewhere for a weekend away - almost always on Lake Michigan. We all agreed that Tony's place has been the absolute best! We rented his home in October of 2012 when one of our sisters was very ill in the last stages of breast cancer and wanted a place right ON the beach. It was great then and even better this year since Tony did some remodeling that we definitely noticed - new linens, new towels, repainting, lovely prints on the walls - just a really clean look to it with lots of light! The kitchen was better equipped as well and is situated in a perfect area so the ones cooking can still be in the loop of everything else going on. The bedrooms are spacious with three of them having stunning views of Lake Michigan. I had the privilege of sleeping in the master bedroom on the 3rd floor and waking up every morning to the view of Big Red was awesome! We spent every afternoon soaking up the sun on the lovely front deck. Even though none of us are TV watchers and never once turned it on there was a huge flat screen TV in the living area plus a wonderfully cozy gas fireplace. As one sister wrote after the weekend..."a dream come true. The weather was perfect...Indian summer the whole weekend. The white sand and blue sky and water have seared beautiful images in my mind which I hope will last for a long time." I totally agree with her words. We hiked the nearby woods, hills and dunes, walked on the beach...what could be better? We have already booked Tony's place for next October :) Honestly, you really couldn't ask for anything better. Thanks, Tony, for making this a very memorable weekend!

Excellent Vacation Spot

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I had a girls week away. This house provided everything that we needed to have a wonderful time. Enough bedrooms, internet/wifi, laundry room, tv/cable/dvd-bluray player, and stocked kitchen. The view and location cannot be surpassed. Two steps and you are on the beach of Lake Michigan. We have stayed in other beach homes and this one is on the top of our list. We hated to leave. It is also close to restaurants, shopping, and other scenic towns such as Saugatuck, Grand Rapids, Holland and Grand Haven. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to others.

Best Rental We Have Found in Macatawa

  • 5 of 5

We have been renting for many years in the Macatawa area. This little community of homes is one of the greatest hidden spots in the country. That said, we haven't found a truly nice place to stay until this summer. We have rented a few cottages back from the water as well as directly on the beach before. While it's more expensive to have the sand right outside your door, it's well worth it. With this house, we could step out of the family room directly onto the beach. There were views from every window. On top of that, the house was modern. The kitchen was well appointed and there were plenty of bathrooms. We will for sure be coming back next summer.

One of a kind

  • 5 of 5

Our week at this house has quickly become our favorite time of the summer. This year was our third visit and my family looks forward to it now every year. We share the house with friends and location can not be better for children and adults a like. We can be on the beach from sun up to sundown. Babies can nap while everyone else plays because we are literally ON the beach. There is a crib, pack n play, high chair...everything we need. We can cook and watch kids play from the kitchen. At night when the little ones are sleeping we can sit outside and enjoy life knowing they are safe inside. I can't think of one "con". Is it hot in the summer...yes... you are at the beach! Do you need to buy groceries and toiletries... yes. This is not a hotel - it's a beautiful house to live in for a week and it's AMAZING. The owner is always accessible and often right next door. He's not only a warm, easy going person but very helpful and concerned about anything not working properly. The house is in a gated safe community and the beach is NEVER over crowded. You get what you pay for and here you pay for a private clean beach with a cute town nearby for food and shopping, fudge and ice cream! Enjoy your stay. We sure do.

Repeat renter

  • 5 of 5

Great location and excellent property for families with kids. We have rented for the past three years and plan to continue each year. We have three generations in our group, and it works well for all. The number of bathrooms is an advantage. House has undergone modern update; is comfortable and spacious. We have rented vacation homes at Macatawa on and off for decades and this is the best overall rental we have found. Owner has another rental unit nearby, that is not directly on the beach but has a very good location. Easy folks to work with. Highly recommended.
