At the end of a 2 mile gravel mountain road, custom built, full view of mountains and river valley, private. This 2010 house has nothing behind it except mountains and forest. Hike down the property to the Pike National Forest and to the North Fork of the South Platte River below. There is mountain hiking on the property and all around with fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing nearby. This property does not just have views--it is in the 360 degree view. You are a part of the scenery. With 7.4 acres touching the Pike National Forest just go out the back door and hike. This property welcomes writers, artists, lovers, hikers, anglers, and all those who want a special retreat away from life's stresses and the hustle-bustle of city life. Better hurry, we are BOOKING UP FAST for the whole year.

Retreat

If you want to get away from Denver for a long weekend, or stay for a month as you write a novel, Big Rock Mountain House welcomes you to a brand new, modern, gorgeous, mountain home that is casual, comfortable and custom designed to be a contemporary cabin experience. You can hike on the property for thirty minutes to the National Forest and beyond and not see another human. You will be surrounded by nature, tall pines, firs, deer, elk, wild turkeys, small mammals, fox, birds. You can hear the sound of water rushing from the rapids of the North Fork of the South Platte River far below you, or the wind rustling through the forest. Go to the bottom of the property, look up, and see that you are literally on a BIG ROCK. Sit in the 8 person spa under the stars. Take a bath in the 6 foot 7 jet spa for two located in the master bath, look out the window and have a glass of wine. Sit on the balcony and look at the 180 degree mountain views. Rock on the back patio in huge log rockers.

Hikers and Anglers Welcome

The house overlooks The Lost Creek Wilderness. Hike the property--on one side, climb down the rock outcrop. On the other side, climb through a dense alpine forest to the plateau below overlooking the river valley and continue descending to the river. There are many other places to hike from the property. Or hike nearby South Twin Cone Peaks, Platte Peak, Payne Benchmark. Take short drives and go to Kenosha Pass, Windy Peak, The Castle, The Tarryall Mountains, Puma Peak, or Mount Evans Wilderness to name a few. Anglers can fish in the river below or go to Boxwood Gulch, Blue River, Long Meadow, Chatfield Reservoir or many other fishing holes near and far.

Why The Owner chose South Central

This is a great property because it is only 1 hour from Denver but in the mountains and very private. You overlook the National Forest. You are in a wilderness area but close to many activities.

What makes this house unique

You have peace and quiet. You have fresh air, smell pine, see and hear many birds. You can hike out the back door and be in nature. The house is new, modern and has every comfort yet give a cabin experience.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A fantastic vacation. The house is amazing. A perfect spot to watch the sunrise, a lightning/hail storm move across the mountains, a magical rainbow, the full moon rise, fox, deer, birds, chipmunks but no mountain lion! We loved the hottub, hikes, kitchen, the dance party. We love the house! From guest book comment.

Beautiful home and outstanding views!

  • 5 of 5

Home is gorgeous, incredibly well stocked kitchen, very nice furnishings, clean, quiet. Super nice for our extended family ranging in age from 2-85 years old. Beautiful views from every window. Fireplace and hot tub very nice on cold evenings.

The only frustration for us was the limited amount of data usage available without incurring extra charges. With 6 adults , various tasks to do on the internet and no way to know how much usage there had been we were a bit stressed about that. Never had limited data usage at a vrbo before.

Otherwise - just an incredibly great experience and home!

Owner's Response: Well, I am glad you enjoyed the house. There is no internet provider in the mountains that offers unlimited data. Rather than increase my rates for everyone to cover overages, I charge guests if they use more than their allowance. There was already a special rental discounted rate which is unusual for the holidays. I am sorry for the inconvenience, but if you were in a hotel, you would pay through the nose. What the guest did not tell was that I agreed to upgrade the DirecTV package so their family could watch football during the holidays!! So, everything in perspective, please.

Breathtaking and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for private secluded quiet to enjoy a romantic weekend before the holidays started and that's exactly what we got!! It was amazing from the very first moment we walked in. The directions to the cabin were really detailed and helpful. It was so cozy in the evenings with our hot chocolate and fireplace. And the morning sunrise was fantastic to snuggle in a blanket and watch from the giant windows. We felt right at home and were easily able to contact the owners if we needed anything. The only thing I wish we would've known was that the hot tub takes a longtime to heat up and get going. We were only able to take advantage of it for one night since we didn't plan far enough in advance the first time. Over all we loved it and wished we could be lucky enough to own such a wonderful property! Thanks for letting us borrow the beauty for a weekend!!

Absolutely stunning!!!

  • 5 of 5

Everything far exceeded our expectations from the time we arrived. There was a small glitch in the code to open the door however the issue was resolved within just a few seconds with the owner. The owner is extremely easy to deal with and is easily accessible. He answered right away! After we entered, not another issue or concern at all. We were in heaven! The views are spectacular! Everything that you need is provided for you. I love to cook and found the kitchen to be amazing!!! We honestly could not have asked for anything more. The shower is wonderful. The jetted tub is extremely relaxing. The large leather sofa in front of the fireplace was a wonderful place to enjoy our morning coffee. There are plenty of chairs outside to enjoy the wildlife while you grill steaks for supper. Just a completely secluded relaxing, very well kept home that we will be visiting again often. Awesome!!!

Great house, great view, convenient to numerous natural sights. Excellent for a relaxing vacation.

  • 5 of 5

Property was well kept and was well stocked with items normally needed in a vacation home. Everything that a family would want for a summer or winter vacation was available. Sleds, badminton, pool, darts, all kinds of board games. You name it it was there. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for relaxing get away.

This was trip #5

  • 5 of 5

This is one of the most peaceful places I've ever been. Our friend came for the first time and we found ourselves whispering while over looking the valley in the back. The sound of the wind thru the pines is like a meditational chant. Thank you again Jaron for sharing this piece of heaven. You have really taken care of the house.
