“Kaiakea” means 'expansive view of the sea.' This home provides exactly that. With palms indoors and out, views of ocean, Kohala Mountain and Maui, you’ll feel close to the sea everywhere in the house. Designed by the artistic hand of a resident architect to make the most of its seaside location, this home is kama’aina (child of the land, longtime resident) owned and loved for 30 years and now continuing under a different family. It combines the essential beach-house views of ocean, honu (sea turtles), wintertime whales and striking sunsets with the best amenities that a luxury home offers. With first-floor bedroom suites, and two upstairs “view suites” with private balconies, and an open sleeping loft, you’ll find plenty of space for both solitude and community for your extended family or group. The home features all the amenities you could want including a full kitchen with two refrigerators and a dishwasher, new mattresses including a Tempur-Pedic in the master bedroom and comfortable bedding, TV's, and high-speed wireless internet. Relax on the spacious, covered, ocean side lanai for meals, reading, napping or just plain good conversation with family any time of the day. Particularly, stunning are the colorful sunsets over the Pacific. Winter months, enjoy the humpback whale show right out front.

Great family location

It’s like living at the aquarium! Turtles, eels, puffer fish, sharks, and colorful tropical fish at the base of the seawall. Outstanding snorkeling and diving too! Boogie boarding at the beach was minutes away. Quite and safe street with wild pigs and turkeys roaming were a cool surprise.

Breathtaking view

My favorite moment on vacation was entering this property with its beautiful foliage and flowers out front to the breathtaking view out back. We only ate out one night because we wanted to watch the sunset! Communication was superb and the space is exactly as described. There was more than enough space for our four families to relax and unwind. Home was well stocked and had anything you could possibly need. Highly recommend!

A Dream House on the Big Island

We booked this house for our annual family reunion of 3 families of 11 people and this house was perfect. It is situated on a wonderful stretch of ocean with natural tide pools, and a comfortable sea wall with sea turtles and other ocean life right on the other side of the wall. The house itself is large and very current and feels every bit like a luxurious beach house. There are many places to relax with your family and it never felt crowded. It is nicely appointed with linens, towels, kitchen items as well as beach items such as boogie boards, snorkeling gear and water shoes. Everyone agreed that the house itself was the highlight of our vacation.

Our extended family of 9 (6 adults and 3 teens/young adults) stayed at Kaiakea for a week in mid March. There was plenty of room for all to enjoy meals and games together and also to spread out when we needed some quiet time. Beds are comfortable, bathrooms and showers are awesome with plenty of hot water and nice soaps/shampoos provided. The kitchen was very well appointed with everything we needed (including spices, vinegars, olive oil, condiments, etc) and was a pleasure to cook in with top end appliances, two sinks and plenty of room (even though we cooked most meals on the outside propane grill). Coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening on the lanai were highlights! From the seating on the lanai or walking over to the sea wall, we saw sea turtles, fish, rays, urchins, eels, crabs - and even a couple whales out past the reef! The clouds finally parted enough on our last day to see the summit of Maui's Haleakalā across the water. As we are from dry Colorado, we were a little concerned about the humidity and lack of air conditioning, but with the home right on the water and it's numerous screened windows and doors, the ocean breezes kept up comfortable and the roar of the breakers lulled us to sleep. The home's location in Puako was perfect for just the right amount of seclusion while allowing easy access to other areas on the western side of the island. We'll definitely be back!!

Magical Family Vacation in Puako HI

This was our fist trip as a family to Hawaii and it definitely won't be our last! We have 8 children ranging from 5 years old to 24 and this house was perfect! I already miss it soo much! This stretch of Puako is like something from a storybook. right out front we saw Humpback whales constantly, along with so many turts, eels, angel fish, humuhumunukunukuapua's, flying fish, butterfly fish, porkupine fish and schools of who knows what they're called. We found a small area of the reef steps from the sea wall perfect for our young ones to snorkel without being exposed to currents and waves that was absolutely full of sea-life. There we saw an eagle ray, manta rays, black tip reef sharks and so, so much more! We went to Costington's and filled both refrigerators with food and Champaign and really didn't want to leave except for a few beach days at Hapuna and 69 (Thanks for the use of the boogie boards in the garage). I really want to thank the owners for making it available for New Years and Trinity for being such good hosts. As you can see by the booking availability, we're not the only ones who feel this way about this place!!

We found it spotlessly clean, very well stocked with kitchen and laundry supplies, and perfectly designed for a large family to spend time together. We spent many relaxing hours on the deck, watching sunsets, and enjoying the turtles just below the seawall. Access to the ocean directly in front of the house is limited, but it’s just a short drive to several beautiful beaches. Our grandchildren had the loft to themselves and each couple had a huge bedroom and bath. Our grandchildren especially loved the enormous showers! We’d definitely recommend BI Kaiakea!

Trip of a lifetime

We were a family of twelve with six adults and six grandchildren from the age of 5 to 14 celebrating our 50th anniversary! This house is amazing! The staff of Mary and 2Papayas made our stay perfect! The sunsets were exquisite. We were there twelve days and never missed a sunset. The location of the home was perfect for exploring the island. Everything you need for a perfect vacation is provided. Great getaway!

This property is in the perfect location--Just far enough from Kona to avoid the crowds, but close enough for relatively easy access to food and necessities. And being right on the oceanfront makes a huge difference. We spent a lot of time at the house because there was so much to do without even having to leave. We didn't eat out at all during our stay because the cooking facilities at the house were great and it was the perfect place to enjoy our meals. The house was spacious and each bedroom had its own bath. It had great airflow in the house, so on the warmer days we would feel a good breeze even inside. The property manager was great and reached out to us both before and during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. The house has 4 private bedrooms, so up to 8 can sleep privately. The two downstairs masters are massive and the two upstairs ones are reasonably large as well. There are two twin beds in the upstairs loft and two daybeds, which would technically sleep 4 more people. I would say that two adults and two children could comfortably sleep in the loft area since the two daybeds are a bit shorter. The loft sleeping area didn't really have any privacy, but one of the upper bedrooms could be closed off from the private bath to make it easier for those sleeping in the open loft area to change or use the bathroom when needed without disturbing anyone in that bedroom.

We left two days ago and already miss it!

Everything You Want & Need!

Waking and falling asleep to the sound of the waves and rising with the sunset was exactly what we needed. We came to connect with Earth and this home provided a comfortable environment to do so in. The home is spacious and well equipped. The indoor/outdoor showers were also surprisingly wonderful. We cooked many meals in the kitchen and on the grill outdoors, ate meals on the back porch and in the dining room (which had magnificent views of the water as well), and sat in the backyard to watch the sunset every evening. We definitely recommend staying at Kaiakea and would do so again - it is great if you are travelling with family, with children, or in couples. Mary and her property management team at 2 Paypayas was also very responsive for our every need.

Ana amazing house at a wonderful location

This property can only be described in superlatives: lovely, well appointed, convenient to important services and attended by an efficient and ever-present staff. We were a small group of four and the house can really absorb a much larger group but it was perfect for us in every respect. I cannot recommend this house highly enough - we have stayed in a large number of HomeAway places but this is one of the best we've had. Kudos to Mary Fox and her staff at 2Papayas for managing this beautiful place so well.

Wonderful family vacation

The home was beautiful, and we could not have asked for a nicer setting. Coffee on the sea wall each morning with 5 turtles, 11 eels and the occasional humuhumunukunukuapua'a was such a treat. The property is well stocked and the 2 Papayas folks took great care of us. Loved it!

Our favorite spot in Puako

We absolutely love staying at this house in Puako. We have returned multiple times over the years and it remains our favorite vacation rental on the Big Island. The house is very comfortable and perfect for large families. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, and the bathrooms are well-stocked with amenities and plenty of towels. The kitchen has wonderful appliances and is very thoughtfully stocked with every utensil, pot, pan, bowl, sheet pan you could need. The laundry appliances are new and the laundry room is well-stocked; we also love using the clothesline outside to dry our clothes in the breeze. The lanai facing the ocean is a perfect spot for breakfast and has tons of seating.and a hammock for relaxing. Can you tell we love this house? A shout out to the housekeepers who keep everything spotless and who have always been incredibly kind and efficient. A big thank you to Marley and Crystal who were so helpful and promptly answered all of our questions during our stay. We look forward to returning again soon!

What a Wonderful House!!!

This house was a fantastic fit for our large family! Being right at the ocean, we so enjoyed the breezes and the sunsets and the night sky. One moonless night we saw the Milky Way and falling stars from our deck! At high tide, we watched eels. There were one to five Green Sea Turtles (Hona) sunning themselves everyday within twenty feet of the seawall. At low tide, we walked out to enjoy the tide pool life. (You can climb over the wall, or take the easier public access path one house down.) If you felt like relaxing, there were enough places for everyone to spread out on the deck, including a hammock... and we can't forget the hot tub. The house was well apportioned, with everything you would need for a group of up to ten people. There were utensils, dinnerware, wine glasses, serving platters, drink glasses, and appliances galore. The second refrigerator was stocked with a bag of ice and many cold packs; the main refrigerator had numerous condiments from former renters which really helped out for the first few days. Two Papayas made sure all of our needs were met, and on our first day even brought out a second propane tank for the outdoor grill so we wouldn't run out! We would wholeheartedly recommend renting this home! The management really went out of their way to make us happy and comfortable! The location was perfect for the things we enjoy doing: relaxing at the shore, walking to the Petroglyphs, walking to the Fairmont Orchid for dinner, perfect snorkeling at the part of Hapuna Beach that's right off Puako Drive, bird watching, and taking Ocean Conservation and Seahorse tours at NELHA. And all just 30 minutes from Kona's airport.

Beautiful Home!!

This home is, by far, the best home we have stayed in on the Big Island. This was our first time staying this far north but we LOVED it!!! Puako is quiet and far from traffic/street noise. 4 King rooms (two with outdoor showers) was perfect for the 4 couples. No kids on this trip but 4 twin beds in a loft area if needed. The house was beautiful inside and out. Beautiful kitchen, furnishings, dining room, lanai and backyard. Less then 1/2 mile from on of the best snorkeling spots on the island - yes, even as good as City of Refuge or Captain Cooks. Turtles on the other side of our seawall every day. Porpoise a little off shore. BEAUTIFUL SUNSETS!!!

Puako Spectacular

It was a wonderful time with our family enjoying the house that we have stayed at many times over the years. Everyone had enough room to be alone if they wanted, but as usual we found us all congregating on the lanai looking out for whales and turtles and enjoying wonderful sunsets. We will be back.

We have rented many vacation houses over the years but this one stands out in every way. Location, taste of furnishings, thoughtfulness regarding guests' comfort, everything is perfect. The kids loved the turtles and whales in the ocean, as well as the geckos in the garden. The adults loved the many places to curl up with a book while listening to the cooling breeze. Perfection!
