Why Kim or David chose Puako

It's just that Puako is such a rare and special place and to have a chance to Live Work and Play in this area for many years now, We count our blessings, Mahalo David & Kim

What makes this cottage unique

Other than LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION, I would say;The fact that the property had an original !940's Beach cottage which was worth saving and we wanted to continue giving folks a chance to enjoy this incredible area and in the style of an earlier Hawaii that helped to make this a special choice for us Mahalo David & Kim

Relaxed and charming, clean and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

A sweet cottage, spacious, quiet, away from the city and easy to get to the beaches and towns on this north part of the island. Walk to shoreline access for sunset, General Store just down the street. Fun to ride bikes up and down the street. Lots of little amenities that make this cottage an easy stay. Owner David gracious and very helpful, great aloha!

5 plus stars!!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage in Puako was perfect in every way. It is clean, and has everything you could want or need for your stay. The location is a short walk away from a shore access where you can find shells, view beautiful sunsets, and see sweet Honu resting on the shore in the afternoon. There are bicycles available for your use. Beach 69 and Hapuna are a quick drive away. The area is quiet and peaceful, and the owners give you your space after greeting you when you first arrive. Loved the outdoor shower. Two great lanais to have your coffee, eat a meal, or watch the funny little geckos run about. The photos don't do this lovely cottage justice, it is even better in person. We loved our stay here, and hope to be back. If I could give it more than 5 stars if I would. Mahalo Kim and David, a hui hou!!

Wonderful cottage stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of three adults had an absolutely lovely stay at this Puako Beach cottage. It was everything we hoped for. Communication was easy and quick...especially since our arrival was in flux as we were staying in the village of Volcano the 2-days before. (we didn't see or experience any ash or bad air quality....the Park was closed, but the town was nice and often sunny!)

The cottage itself is near the end of a dead-end road on the mountain side. Traffic here is minimal, making it a very serene and tranquil area. Waking up to the sound of birds was magnificent! It is a very short walk to the beach access cut-through. Not the traditional sandy beach...but a rocky, lava-rock beach thats raw and beautiful. It is also a Honu-resting area. Our last night we counted 27 turtles! Most days we saw a few here and there.

The cottage has all your needs met! We couldn't think of anything we needed. Things we appreciated: all light/electrical switches labelled, many outlets, 5-star inspirational garden, overhead fans in every room, short-walk to the beach, mini-tour upon arrival (listen carefully...lots of good info here!), fully-stocked kitchen, first-aid/OTC products, all kinds of beach gear, and driveway marked with cones for arrival. We love to make smoothies with all the fresh fruit available....as there was no blender at the cottage, our host quickly remedied the situation with a brand new blender the next day :))) AC available (for nominal-cost).

Thank you David & Kim for a really lovely vacation. We hope to return some day!

What an awesome stay!

  • 5 of 5

If you want a quiet, laid-back, clean and comfortable place this is it. Very spacious inside and out, with a beautiful shady garden setting. Across the street are the beautiful Puako tide pools, with many turtles and tropical fish. Our host David was helpful, informative and welcoming (thanks for the mangoes!) The only sad part was when it was time to go. We hope to be back soon!

Puako is the only ocean side residential community on the Kohala Coast. It is still a well kept secret of original cottages and large estate homes nestled on the coastline where all of the major 5 star resorts have been built. Small beaches and petroglyph field within walking distance. Sheltered reef for snorkeling, shore diving, swimming, under water photography.
