Why Karen & Linda chose Lincoln City

We were sold when we saw the view of the ocean from the Porthole. The quiet botanical setting is rare in a beach town. Feels like your miles from a city when staying at this home but yet so close to stores, restaurants and attractions.

Guestbook comments from the manager

By far the best house we stayed in at the coast. We can't wait to rent the Porthole again.

Reviewer Comments:

What a great place to stay. We loved everything about it. The property is well kept and offers ample space and lots of amenities. The location was great for our Oregon Coast adventures. Restaurants were fantastic (both in Lincoln City and all along the coastal towns) I think we ate clam chowder at every one we visited! All in all, just a fun, relaxing time in a beautiful part of our country. Thanks!

Reviewer Comments:

The directions were very good and we had no trouble finding it. The house was mostly clean. A couple blankets were stained and looked dirty, but the owner provided new the next day. The beds and furnishings were comfortable. The huge windows in the living room give a lovely view of the beach. However this room only has one window and was like a sauna in the afternoon. The kitchen had everything we needed, however it has no shades and the afternoon sun is blinding in the eating area. There is no fan either and no window that ventilates. We had a toddler with us, and I talked to the owner about this and safety on the stairs. I would not stay here with small children again, as the upstairs stairwell railing does not keep one from falling through. Likewise the yard and the driveway are not enclosed. Perched on a cliff as it is, the drop offs are frighteningly steep. Even swinging the car into the parking from the road is steep and scary. You can walk the road down to the beach, though you need to pick your way down a rocky area first.

Owner's Response: Thanks to this guest for taking the time to review. The Porthole is a great house for adults and kids who can do a flite of stairs. The stairs came off a ship and add a cool nautical theme to the house. There are nice big opening windows on either side of the living room making a nice cross breeze. I don't think this guest opened both sides. The driveway is wide and and there is a fence that separates pavement from the bank. The yard is on a soft hill above the oceanfront. There would be nowhere to fall except on ferns and bushes. Bigger kids love that yard! Happy they enjoyed some things about the house but prepared to give some suggestions that would be better for a toddler. Sincerely, Karen

Reviewer Comments:

It was great! We enjoyed this house a lot. It fit all of us perfectly. And had great views and luckily great weather. It was a short walk to the beach, the walk back up the hill was tiring but we had 6 kids with us ages ranging from 5-10 and they hiked back up just fine. Also just a heads up the house says it has 2 1/2 baths. It has 1 bathroom with a taoilet and bathtub only, another bathroom with 1 toilet and a shower, and then a shower in the laundry room. We would have preferred 3 toilets but it still worked out great. Overall for the price it was a great spot, very clean, and the owners were super nice and friendly and answered all of our questions promptly. We would stay here again.

Porthole - Oceanfront Home w Hot Tub

Reviewer Comments:

Although, the pictures are real the presentation does not accurately represent the home. It is a home that has additions, which impact the layout of the home. For example, one bedroom has a window to the other bedroom because previously it looks like it was a porch that was converted into a bedroom. Very Odd!There are two bathrooms, but only one has a shower. The other shower is located in the laundry room. Over the home is fairly dated and the kitchen on the lower floor is very small. The only decent size room to gather in is the family room upstairs, but there is only one small window opens and it gets very warm upstairs. The appliances are dated and are challenging, plus there are very pans, bowls, etc. Lastly, there is no easy way to get to the beach. Be prepared to hike both ways.

Owner's Response: The Porthole does have an enclosed Porch with some pretty knotty pine. Nice big windows open with screens to gorgeous & private view of ferns , hydrangeas, and fir trees. It's such a nice quiet space to hear the ocean and relax. There's a queen bed and twin bed on the enclosed porch. The house was built in the 1940s and although older it has some beautiful woodwork throughout including massive river rock fireplace with vaulted knotty pine ceiling and 2 windows that open in the living room for cross breeze. Guests must not have tried the other window. There are also overhead ceiiling fans in the living room. The dishwasher is new as of last month , glass top range and beautiful new fir cabinets with granite counter tops. The kitchen is older like the rest of the house , maybe not huge but very beautiful and ample room for groups of 10 or less. There's also a nice big new cabinet next to the fridge for more guest groceries. Best of all that kitchen opens to the patio, BBQ, porch swing and hot tub. There are only 2 bathrooms, (1 has tub, 1 has shower). The extra shower in the laundry / mud room is nice to have. I feel badly the guests didn't like my home but felt I should mention all the wonderful things I like about it. It has character not seen in newer homes. I feel it's represented fairly on the website. Thanks, Karen

The views were amazing, and the beach was close. We used the fireplace for two evenings before the sun came out for the remainder of our stay. Kitchen is slightly small for a big group, but we worked it out just fine. We all agreed we'd stay here again.
