About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

This 1800 Sq. foot home is located in the historic mill town of Fries, VA. The beautiful New River flows by our small village on it's way up north. 'The New River Trail' follows the river from Fries to Pulaski for over fifty miles. It is a 'Rails to Trails' project for bikers, hikers and horses. There is very little incline or decent and you will find trestles, a tunnel, beautiful wild flowers, shoals and lots of cool shade in mostly secluded deep woodlands. The fishing is great along with canoeing, tubing and kayaking.

Blue Grass Music is plentiful with The Galax Fiddlers Convention and Fries Fiddlers Convention the second and third weeks in August.

The house is only 14 miles from the most visited National Park, 'The Blue Ridge Parkway' and the Blue Ridge Music Center.

For those of you with wonderlust there are lots of narrow dirt and paved roads with pastures, mountains, creeks and valleys to explore.

Adorable rental

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I loved this place especially the privacy for two people with a bedroom and bath both upstairs and down. Plenty of places for friends and family to have their own space. We have been in this area before and love hiking on the New River Trail, going to Grayson Highlands state park to hike and see the wild ponies, going to the Blue Ridge music center on the BRP to hear music and enjoying the Thursday night jam sessions in the Fries community center. They also have a very good restaurant in the park right on the river. The only small issue we had was that even though the downstairs bath was adorable with an old fashioned tub, it was not practical if you want a shower or to wash your hair. You will have to navigate the somewhat steep stairs to use the upstairs shower. The owners are very accommodating and do not burden you with lots of rules or extra charges. The front porch is really lovely and relaxing. I love staying in small towns like this.

This rental is very clean and a great value. Rarely does one find both. The town is quaint and quiet. We would love to come back again. The home is furnished very nicely and is furnished well for renters. All we needed was food. The owners were also very nice. Thank you!!

Five years and going strong!

  • 5 of 5

What started as a place to visit while attending the Hillsville Antique Festival, has become the more important of the two. Just as the name implies, this cozy cottage is the perfect place to unwind, enjoy friends and catch up with the friends we've made in Fires. Each year, as we round the bend and see Nana's, each of us has the feeling of coming home.

We stayed here with another couple to go riding on the New River Trail. The place could not have been better. We loved it, the location is very quite and relaxing. The beds are very comfortable and the owner thought of everything.

Great place for kids!

  • 5 of 5

This house was great for a girls and kids weekend, including the Galax Fiddler's Convention. Very clean, and we appreciated both the toys and the playground and river nearby, as well as the friendly neighborhood. Thank you!
