About Kathy Gothard

We enjoyed visiting the Smokies during my husband’s career in the United States Navy. After his retirement we believed the area was a perfect halfway point of distance between our extended families. Upon settling here we decided to extend ourselves into the realm of cabin ownership. We wanted opportunity to share our love of the area and hospitality with others. We both enjoy photography & the Smokies fits the bill for such!

Kathy Gothard purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Kathy Gothard chose Sevierville

The historical symbolism of the log cabin as well as the unique cottage look drew our interest. I suggest you check out the wikipedia site about the log cabin history.

What makes this cabin unique

There is a front porch as well as a back covered deck. The enlarged deck has old fashioned rocking chairs. There is an unusual extension of deck in the shape of a gazebo with a picnic table. To me the most memorable feature of Appalachian Songbird is the body of a tree in raw form used as part of the staircase! I only wish I knew of this tree's history.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks Kathy for sharing your home with us....My kidos loved it and so did we. It not only was beautiful but close to all the area events. It was a nice getaway after losing both my parents to cancer...My family really needed the quiet time and relaxation.

Quiet retreat

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay there. Even though there are other cabins nearby , we never saw anyone. The screened in porch was a great place to start the morning and end your day.

This attractive two bedroom cabin is very close to everything in Sevierville and Pigeon Forge. The park is just a few minutes away if you dodge the redlights on 441.

We found it very nice inside. The furniture including beds were comfortable. The spiral staircase winding up a tree trunk is pretty unique. Kathy was very pleasant to talk with. She knew we cooked some so she even purchased some new pots and pans to ensure that we had enough. We all enjoyed the screened, private deck on the back. A great little cabin!

Cozy Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Appalachian Songbird. The cabin was very clean and well stocked with kitchen and bathroom supplies. The screened in porch was awesome and where we spent most of our time. We had one rainy day, but there were games and books available to keep us occupied. Internet worked great which is not always the case when renting cabins with higher elevations and more seclusion. The only issue we had was not receiving the access code until one hour before check-in. The owner advised she did not receive my emails or texts. If you are looking for a rental away from the hustle and bustle and easy access to I-40, this is an excellent choice.

Cozy cabin

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this cabin, it was convenient to "the strip" without the chaos. The cabin was clean, the beds were comfortable and the back screened in porch was peaceful. To say the owner was easy to work with is an understatement. We would have given this 5 stars because there is absolutely nothing wrong with the accommodations however, we had requested a cabin with NO PETS only to find out after we booked this cabin that pets are considered on an individual basis. Unfortunately for our family that means allergies.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review. I appreciate your mentioning the pet issue. Actually it’s been a long time since we accepted a pet. Due to issues with allergies and damage from pets we made the decision to no longer accept pets. Sounds like I need to get to VRBO info and do some updating fast! Thank you Angie! We hope you will consider us again in the future!

Peaceful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have visited this area many times and it is one of our favorite destinations. We have rented cabins before but this was our first stay at Appalachian Songbird. From the moment we walked in the door we loved the feel. It is a beautiful cabin, in a great location. It took us about 10 minutes to get to Dollywood or to the heart of the parkway in Pigeon Forge. We hope to be able to visit again soon. I think we have a new favorite lodging! Kathy, thank you for sharing your cabin with us. We certainly enjoyed our stay.
