We enjoyed visiting the Smokies during my husband’s career in the United States Navy. After his retirement we believed the area was a perfect halfway point of distance between our extended families. Upon settling here we decided to extend ourselves into the realm of cabin ownership. We wanted opportunity to share our love of the area and hospitality with others. We both enjoy photography & the Smokies fits the bill for such!
Kathy Gothard purchased this cabin in 2004
The historical symbolism of the log cabin as well as the unique cottage look drew our interest. I suggest you check out the wikipedia site about the log cabin history. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Log_cabin
There is a front porch as well as a back covered deck. The enlarged deck has old fashioned rocking chairs. There is an unusual extension of deck in the shape of a gazebo with a picnic table. To me the most memorable feature of Appalachian Songbird is the body of a tree in raw form used as part of the staircase! I only wish I knew of this tree's history.
Thanks Kathy for sharing your home with us....My kidos loved it and so did we. It not only was beautiful but close to all the area events. It was a nice getaway after losing both my parents to cancer...My family really needed the quiet time and relaxation.
My wife and I had a wonderful time at the "cabin". It was very peaceful and cozy. We enjoyed our Thanksgiving with our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. We are looking forward to a return vist in the future.
Great little cabin! All of the amenities that you need. It's close to town but feels like it's deep I'm the woods. We will rent again.
Our family couldn't have picked a better cabin for our mountain vacation. Everything we needed was available to us and, in addition, the cabin was even decorated for the fall season. We will be back!!
Songbird was the perfect place for us we were close to things near by that if something was needed(grocery or gas). Everything that we wanted to see was within driving distance. Even seen two shows while we was here that was great Kathy was a great help with everything before hand to us getting there and out little dog(Caramel) had a good time also while she was. The was had everything that we needed plus it was in a great neighbor hood. Beautiful!! Will be there next year for sure. Once again Thank You for letting us staying at such a great area plus the cabin was wonderful.
Hubby and I stayed here for an unexpected family reunion. Loved the fact family members from Knoxville, Dandridge and Jeff City could visit us without having to tackle Pidgeon Forge, and hubby, who is afraid of heights, loved the fact there were no super steep roads to drive up. (This is the mountains though, so there is a slight incline.) Very close to main highway, yet far enough off there to be in the woods. Not secluded - it is in a neighborhood of similar cabins. My brother and his wife, both master woodworkers, were fascinated by the quality of workmanship in this little charmer, especially that spiral staircase! Good memories of cozy evenings and mornings in front of the fireplace, and immaculate cleanliness. Only negative is Internet is slow. I mention because sometimes I take "working vacations" where I go to a quiet place to work on a project and being connected is important. This was not one of those, so no problem for me, but be aware if great connectivity is important to you. Katherine and David were very accomodating and wonderful to work with too.
Enjoyed our stay very much at Applachian Songbird. The cabin was very clean and well maintained. We loved the location - not too far out but just far enough away to avoid the main traffic of Pigeon Forge. We were happy that the owners let us bring our dog. That was a big plus!
