Mountain Biking - Most of the 25-miles of single track trail are one-way (clock-wise) and should not be biked backwards. The bike trail is open from April to September.

Cross-Country Skiing - The 18-miles of trail are groomed and the parking lot is plowed in winter, usually starting in December. There is also a chalet available for skiers. Snowfall averages 130 inches from December to March, but the best skiing is usually in January and February. One loop provides several miles of ungroomed trail that is is perfect for snowshoeing.

Hiking - Although the trail is primarily used by Mountain Bikers, it is open to hiking. The trail runs near, but is not connected to, the North Country National Scenic Trail for a short stretch.

The Marzinski Horseback Riding Trail also crosses the Big M trail at two locations.)

Why Karen Noonan chose Northwest

We wanted a log home in the woods in northern Michigan that felt like we were in northern Michigan. When we want to get away from it all...we want to get away from it all. The feeling you get from being in a log cabin in woods is like no other and yet it's still not far from small towns and city's, beaches, rivers, a casino, shopping, downhill skiing, golfing, fishing, snowmobiling and so much more!!!!

What makes this cabin unique

Mushrooming, stargazing, campfires, hiking, barbecues, clean and comfortable log cabin, peace and quiet!

Wonderful home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This home is full of rustic charm. Loved all of the architectural details. Very clean. Good quality beds and linens. Well stocked with everything we needed- including small appliances, extra towels, blankets, pillows, dishes. More than enough space for the five of us. The wifi was slow, which was not necessarily a bad thing. The doors and floors are a little creaky. But it is a log cabin, so that is to be expected, too. There isn't much nearby in terms of civilization, but plenty of natural attractions. I would definitely recommend this home.

Cozy quiet rustic log cabin

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our week long stay in this impressive log cabin. The upsides of the cabin include: the owner was very quick in replying to any pre-stay communications, the cottage is spacious, private, and cozy. The cabin is very well stocked- ample sheets, towels, dishes, toilet paper, paper towels, spices, movies, games, laundry detergent, a black book of local recommendations, even a basketball for the net in the driveway. Really they had everything you would need. As far as the cons- this is minor, but might be important to some families so better to know in advance- the internet service is very spotty. If your family totally unplugs on vacation (I am envious and this would not affect you), but as we were out there for a week with 2 teenagers, we went through a ton of cellular data. Overall we felt very safe and felt the cabin was well supplied. Thank you.

Great cabin! Great location!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful week at Karen's beautiful cabin in the woods! Loved the front porch and fire pit, the sun room overlooking the woods, and the gorgeous master bed/loft upstairs! Cabin accomodated 7 of us for a few days and we had plenty of room. Location was perfect for us--we hiked, rented bikes, shopped and relaxed at the beaches--all within 30 min of the cabin. The wireless was a bit slow, and there is no dishwasher but neither one of these bothered us. If I could add one thing it would be a shower to the lower level where the 2 bedrooms are so the guests wouldn't have to go upstairs. All in all, it was very nice and we'd definitely go back again!

great place to stay, close to many options for recreation

  • 4 of 5

We love it here! The only reason for a lack of five stars is it is a bit pricey and could use some more windows in the Living Room (although the garage prevents this). Hasn't stopped us from returning each year!

Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was very pretty. Property was in the woods and quite private. Only had one complaint and had nothing to do with the cabin, make sure if you got outside for a walk take some kind of bug spray. Ended up with two ticks on my journeys around in the surrounding woods.

Beautiful, quiet, and comfortable cabin

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a fantastic time at this place. We loved and admired the beautiful hand crafted furnature and rustic feel to the cabin. This is the PERFECT place to relax and get away from it all. The bed was the most comfortable I have EVER slept in... it was very hard to get up on the morning, lol. Plan on sleeping in! We definately recommend this cabin, and will come back in the future.
