Mountain Biking - Most of the 25-miles of single track trail are one-way (clock-wise) and should not be biked backwards. The bike trail is open from April to September.
Cross-Country Skiing - The 18-miles of trail are groomed and the parking lot is plowed in winter, usually starting in December. There is also a chalet available for skiers. Snowfall averages 130 inches from December to March, but the best skiing is usually in January and February. One loop provides several miles of ungroomed trail that is is perfect for snowshoeing.
Hiking - Although the trail is primarily used by Mountain Bikers, it is open to hiking. The trail runs near, but is not connected to, the North Country National Scenic Trail for a short stretch.
The Marzinski Horseback Riding Trail also crosses the Big M trail at two locations.)

Why Karen Noonan chose Dickson
We wanted a log home in the woods in northern Michigan that felt like we were in northern Michigan. When we want to get away from it all...we want to get away from it all. The feeling you get from being in a log cabin in woods is like no other and yet it's still not far from small towns and city's, beaches, rivers, a casino, shopping, downhill skiing, golfing, fishing, snowmobiling and so much more!!!!

NICE AND PEACEFUL CABIN
IF YOU WANT A NICE, SECLUDED, PEACEFUL CABIN TO STAY AT THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO. AND YOU DON'T HAVE FAR TO GO TO GET TO THE NEAREST TOWN IF YOU WANT TO GET OUT TO GO DO SOMETHING. I ENJOYED IT A LOT WITH MY FRIENDS FOR THE WEEK-END. THE ONLY THING I HAVE TO SAY THOUGH IS, THE CABIN WAS VERY COLD WHEN WE ARRIVED AND IT TOOK SEVERAL HOURS FOR IT TO WARM UP ENOUGH TO TAKE JACKETS OFF.
I'm happy to hear you enjoyed your visit!!!
The cabin has hot water baseboard heat and is very efficient, I should have mentioned that you need to turn up all three thermostats on the main floor and the one in the lower level. Usually it heats up in less than 10 minutes. There is also a heater in the upstairs bath. They must have all been on the lowest setting or turned off from still from summer. I hope you'll visit the cabin again and enjoy a toasty stay!!
Simply the best!
Year after year this place has been absolutely wonderful. Our stay in this cabin was amazing, it has everything you could possibly want for a great get away. Our expectations were exceeded! Great location for family fun and privacy, it was spacious with beautiful landscape views. The beds were so comfortable and had so many pillows ensuring a peaceful night of rest and the kitchen provided all your basic supplies and more. The master bedroom and bathroom upstairs felt like a spa and the walkout area from one of the guest bedrooms was incredible. Couldn't ask for a better location and stay for a family or small group. Thank you for providing a lovely home for our vacation. Will return to same location next year.
Perfect cabin getaway
My wife, dog and I want to get out of the city and we looked at everywhere from Door County to the UP. We are very happy that we chose this location. The cabin is situated near the end of a dirt road maybe 10 mins from Brethren, MI and 25-ish minutes from Manistee, MI. The cabin itself was bigger than expected and very clean. Also it is a legit log cabin! Highly recommend this cabin. The owner was quick to respond to the rental request and answered all of our questions.
Very private and secluded
Property was better than advertised! Hope to stay there in the future.
Wonderful home away from home
This home is full of rustic charm. Loved all of the architectural details. Very clean. Good quality beds and linens. Well stocked with everything we needed- including small appliances, extra towels, blankets, pillows, dishes. More than enough space for the five of us. The wifi was slow, which was not necessarily a bad thing. The doors and floors are a little creaky. But it is a log cabin, so that is to be expected, too. There isn't much nearby in terms of civilization, but plenty of natural attractions. I would definitely recommend this home.
Cozy quiet rustic log cabin
We enjoyed our week long stay in this impressive log cabin. The upsides of the cabin include: the owner was very quick in replying to any pre-stay communications, the cottage is spacious, private, and cozy. The cabin is very well stocked- ample sheets, towels, dishes, toilet paper, paper towels, spices, movies, games, laundry detergent, a black book of local recommendations, even a basketball for the net in the driveway. Really they had everything you would need. As far as the cons- this is minor, but might be important to some families so better to know in advance- the internet service is very spotty. If your family totally unplugs on vacation (I am envious and this would not affect you), but as we were out there for a week with 2 teenagers, we went through a ton of cellular data. Overall we felt very safe and felt the cabin was well supplied. Thank you.
