The Penthouse at Poipu Shores is the corner unit on the top floor, and is only a few feet from the ocean. Originally built for the developer, it is the largest condo at Poipu Shores (2200 square feet). Glass-walled, it indisputably has the most spectacular view of any property on the south shore - a 270 degree sweeping panorama of the southern coastline extending to the west, Niihau, and the central mountains, Mt. Kahili and Mount Wai'ale'ale.. The condo was completely remodeled and rebuilt in 2009 and is extremely well-maintained.. The living room has a big screen HDTV, Blu-ray DVD player, and central stereo system with iPod and MP3 connections. Each bedroom has both ceiling fans and A/C (see note in Property Description), HDTV, and wireless and hard wired free high speed internet access. The living room and the master bedroom open to the 40 foot long lanai overlooking the ocean crashing on rocks below - a perfect vantage point for spotting sea turtles, dolphins, whales, monk seals and, on occasion, manta rays. Sunsets are beautiful year round. Guests will enjoy the dramatic, heated, ocean-front pool. There are 2 covered barbecue areas, on-site parking, and elevator. On-site manager's office is open daily to assist guests.

MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY 6 GUESTS: Because of the privacy, ambiance, and amenities, this unit is a wonderful choice for a honeymoon, anniversary, or birthday celebration, or just as a getaway to completely relax and enjoy beautiful Kauai. Two couples sharing this condo will be delighted with the spaciousness. Dinner on the lanai at sunset is the best dining experience on the island.

One infant under age 12 months using a crib may be permissible with 6 adults.

SMOKING: This is a non-smoking property. There are three designated smoking areas away from the buildings at the perimeters of the property. Smoking inside the units or on the lanais is prohibited.

BARBECUES: There are gas barbecues in two locations on the property for the use of guests. The use of portable grills, hibachis, camping stoves, etc. inside the units or on the lanais is strictly prohibited.

DRONES: To respect the privacy of all guests, drones may not be flown anywhere on the property at any time.

DEPOSIT POLICY: 50% of rent total to confirm reservation; may be higher for year end holidays.

CANCELLATION: full refund of deposit for cancellation up to 61 days prior to arrival date. 50% refund of deposit if cancelled up to 30 days prior to arrival date. No refund if cancelled within 30 days prior to arrival dates, outside of holiday season. NO REFUND IF CANCELLATION OCCURS WITHIN 90 DAYS PRIOR TO ARRIVAL DURING HOLIDAY SEASON DATES.

The Perfect Penthouse on the Sea

We have stayed in the penthouse two times and both were magical! It is perched on the 4th floor and the lanai is as close to the crashing waves as you can get in Poipu. We spent lots of time just watching the waves thunder onto the lava rocks, and the sea turtles swimming around. Sunsets are glorious, as are the frequent rainbows in the morning. The condo is beautifully decorated and furnished, sleeping 5 easily (we had 4 so there was lots of space), with 3 full baths. It is spacious and light-filled and comfortable. The kitchen includes everything you need as far as dishes, utensils and pots and pans, even a few coffee filters (we ran out) and a complimentary packet of coffee. If you plan on cooking meals here plan on bringing everything down to the salt and pepper because there are no leftovers from other renters. It was hard to tear ourselves away from the comfort and view here to make the short walk to the beach or pool (which is lovely!) but somehow we managed. We can't wait to visit again one day - can't imagine staying anywhere else in Poipu!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words! It is the policy of our property management company that housekeepers remove all foods from the unit once a guest departs. With our location right on the water and the accompanying exposure to salt air and humidity, spices etc. do not survive very long or well anyhow. Also we must observe local health regulations. We suggest to our guests that they tuck a few of their favorite spices into ziplock bags and bring them in their luggage. Our housekeeping staff is happy to provide additional supplies such as filters if requested. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and hope you will visit us yet again.

It was lovely

The accomodations were great and the view was spectactular. You do need air conditioning if you are going to be there in the summer. I highly recommend the penthouse as it was a wonderful experience. You'll definitely enjoy it.

A great location

We had a wonderful stay! The view and balcony is stunning and we enjoyed watching the sea turtles and hearing the crashing waves in the evening. The location was perfect, a 5 minute walk to the beach where we snorkeled and body surfed. The condo was clean and spacious, ideal for our family of 6. Would definitely return!

Very disappointing!

Overall this place is OLD, uncomfortable and nothing luxurious like we had expected. The day we arrived there was no apology for a broken washer & dryer. Only air conditioning was in the master bedroom where we discovered cockroaches! A single elevator for the entire place and parking was very inconvenient. We felt gouged and very disappointed in that the lady, Ella, at the main desk honestly didn't give a hoot, like we should expect MORE? To pay top dollar for these accommodations we seriously considered leaving but we had prepaid. We will tell everyone we know NOT to ever consider staying here because it was awful. We were here to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary and truly it was one of the biggest let down's of our entire trip. Thankfully we spent another week on Maui where we thoroughly enjoyed. Poipu Shores is woefully uncomfortable and very inconvenient all the way around!

Owner's Response: We have listed this unit on VRBO since 2010 and have never before received less than a 5 star review, so this one certainly drew our attention. True, our complex is among the earlier properties built on the Poipu shoreline, as are the other properties on our street. This is why it has one of the prime completely oceanfront locations of the area. Our Homeowners Association Board of Directors are extremely proactive and diligent in maintaining an attractive property in excellent condition. Our unit which this renter booked is on the top (4th)floor corner of Building A which has 27 units, 20 of which are accessed by stairs or elevator. One elevator is adequate to accommodate this building. As noted in our VRBO listing, handicapped parking is available by request. If a guest has mobility issues our staff will certainly reserve a spot nearest the building entrance for them. Unfortunately just before this renter arrived the washing machine broke. It is impossible to get immediate repairs on Kauai as there are few repair services and parts must be ordered, most often from the Mainland-all very time consuming. This is frustrating to owners as well as guests and staff always try to provide alternate solutions in the duration. According to our staff these people were extremely upset about not having a washer, and they were offered the options of using the washer in a vacant unit or having the housekeepers do their wash. The dryer was functioning normally. We were also informed by staff that the A/C was working normally in all bedrooms. We have chosen to leave open our top floor corner living areas which have cross ventilation without use of A/C so the sound of the surf and tradewind breezes may be enjoyed. We have a contract with a local exterminator to conduct monthly inspections, spray, and treat any suspicious areas. On a tropical island with hot and humid summers, we coexist with insects, but this unit is not infested as was suggested. If doors are left open we may occasionally be visited by an uninvited roach. We obviously did not meet this guest's expectations or needs and were a poor choice for them, and we are sorry this stay ruined their anniversary celebration. We urge future guests to view our VRBO listing and photos thoroughly as they accurately portray our complex and unit. We try hard to respond quickly to questions from prospective renters in advance to aid them in their decision to book or look elsewhere.

Wow!

The property is clean, well-maintained, private, uncrowded and absolutely beautiful! The location overlooking the Po'ipu shore break is amazing. The view and sounds of surf crashing are mesmerizing, same for the beaches nearby that were fun and well guarded. The pool was fun and the people friendly. Although hot and humid, no air conditioning was needed due to the trade winds. The kitchen was fully stocked and allowed for well-prepared meals but there were plenty of very good restaurants nearby. All the facilities staff and maintenance personnel were very accommodating and friendly! Kauai is an amazing island with a wealth of things to do. All together,this was a great vacation spot!

Terrific condo!

I would highly recommend this condo. The view is awesome with really your own private blowhole that puts Sprouting Horn to shame. We spent hours on the terrace watching sea turtles and waves crashing. Furnishing and amenities were even better than listed on website. Owner and front office were terrific. Communication was easy and responsive. There was a power outage after hours in 1/2 of the unit and it was taken care of immediately by after hours manager. Mahalo Ann for sharing your condo.

The Penthouse at Poipu Shores is on the sunny south shore of Kauai on a rocky point only a few feet from crashing waves. A 5 minute walk west along the coastline brings you to Brennecke Beach and Poipu Beach Park where there are swimming, snorkeling, surfing and body-boarding. There are 4 major hotels and many restaurants and shops nearby, all within walking distance. Championship golf courses, tennis courts, and surfing beaches are all very close.

Cleaning $182.29

Check in time is 4:00 P.M. Checkout time is 11:00 A.M. To guarantee a late check out on the departure date for an evening flight from Kauai, an additional day's rent is required. To allow time for cleaning the unit between stays, which is done in normal daytime hours, it is not possible to confirm another booking until the next evening in this case. There is no hospitality room on the property.
