About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

This home is a peaceful sanctuary 1.5 hours from Portland. It is on a private road just north of Oceanside, safely above the Tsunami Inundation Zone. You can walk to a secluded beach beneath the house and watch whales and bald eagles from the deck.

The house itself is a cool mix of wood panels, grandma style and modern elements. It has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths and it sleeps 10, with two queen sized beds and a queen sized sofa bed sharing a large room on the ground floor. The dining table seats 8 and the living room can comfortably seat 7ish. We have a large stone fireplace and a pellet stove for cool nights. About Patrick

I work in design and moved to Portland from NYC 5 years ago.

Patrick purchased this house in 2010

Why Patrick chose Northern Coast

I love the ocean, especially this part of the OR coast. It is between Cape Lookout and Cape Meares, has amazing scenery and seems to have better weather than much of the coast - and Portland for that matter. There are numerous weekends when all of Western Oregon is supposed to be rainy when the sun is shining at this home.

What makes this house unique

Rain or shine, I love staring at the ocean and this house amazing views from the deck and the living area. We've seen whales while eating dinner at the kitchen table. Bald eagle sightings are also fairly common.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Patrick and Kate's place is amazing! So quiet and relaxing, I watched the waves and birds migrating for hours. I loved waking up in the morning and walking along what, with only a few parking spots, is almost a private beach. And we're excited to go back!

Excellent vacation house

  • 5 of 5

This was one of the best houses we've ever stayed on the Oregon coast: best view of the ocean from the balcony, plenty of space, convenient floor plan, walking distance to the beach.

Serene Retreat at Wild ocean

  • 5 of 5

This house is awesome- such a good value for the price. It's on a private road so it felt secluded, but it's just above a beach with the best agate hunting I've ever had. All the kitchen equipment I needed, wifi and PEACE. I would go back immediately.

Perfect Escape

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for a wonderful place to make our escape. Comfortable and accommodating, isolated but not too far from others and perfectly located to be amazed, entertained and relaxed by the sights and sounds of the ocean and the Oceanside shore. While it is a much larger home than really needed for two, it provided an ideal setting for our getaway. We highly recommend discovering the Oregon coast with this seaside home as your base.

Our Stay at Oceanside

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely stay at the Oceanside owner rental. Thank you Patrick for having us stay in your vacation home, it was a home away from home. It was a bit chilly that week and on the last day we did light thd fireplace which was awesome!

Great Place in a Great Place!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week in Oceanside. House was big enough for us with 2 teenagers and dog , but still cozy and comfy. Gorgeous views of the ocean from up and downstairs.

Kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. Loved having the fireplace. And Easy exit! Not a lot of requirements for leaving the property at the end, just pile up the laundry and take out the trash, I Have stayed in places where you need to plan on hour or more just to get the place ready for the clean up crew, I appreciate making it simple.

Beach access is not right out the door but very close and fairly secluded. Had a nice weenie roast on the beach and days of beach combing.

Owner was helpful and responsive sending a good list of information about the house and the area.

We will certainly come back again, and would recommend to friends.

Be sure and note the link on this page for the facebook page of the property for more pictures.

Perfect Weekend Escape

  • 5 of 5

It was late January, I'd been working quite a few 60 hour weeks and, frankly, I was burnt out. I wanted to find the perfect place to relax, shut off my laptop and explore.

Being an East Coast expat without much time spent on the West Coast, I was unsure of what to expect of the Oregon coast. Sure I'd heard all of the good things, but I figured I've visited nearly ever coast from New York to Florida, how could this be any different?

I arrived late, another long evening at work delayed my departure, and had only the sound of the ocean to tip me off to where I was. I spent an hour on the oceanside deck staring into the stars, anticipating the arrival of sunrise and a weekend away.

When I awoke the next morning, I was taken-aback by what I saw. Blue. Blue ocean, blue skies. The world stretched on forever from the home's vantage point, framed by natural rock and the horizon a ship passed in the distance. I couldn't help but wonder if the crew-members of that ship weren't looking up and thinking of a similar retreat they'd soon be on.

I sat again on the ocean facing deck thinking I truly hadn't viewed something like this back East.

The next two days were filled with treks to the shore, scaling the various rock formations below and late night talks with friends. It was just what anyone looking to escape would ever need.
