Cabin By the River was built in 1995 and rests on the banks of the Yellowstone River, 10.5 miles north of Gardiner, Montana, the only year around entrance to Yellowstone Park. It is situated on about 5 acres in the upper Paradise Valley, south of Yankee Jim Canyon and north of Corwin Springs, Montana. We enjoy a country setting with neighbors across grassy fields.
The cabin is decorated in country cabin decor and will sleep five. There is a queen bed in the main floor bedroom and a queen and a single bed in the sleeping loft. A sofa queen bed in the living room is suitable for small children. The front porch overlooks the river and offers a porch swing, table and chairs and a gas bbq. For rainy days, there are reading materials, games, Dish TV and DVD player with a selection of movies. The small kitchen offers a full size range and refrigerator. Dishes, utensils, coffee maker, crock pot & a brief pantry are provided.
The bathroom is a tub/shower combination. Linens, towels and paper products are provided.
There is a landline telephone for local calls. Wifi service is available but caution that we are in a mountainous area and it is sometimes undependable. It easily provides adequate service for email and internet.
We have a fire ring down along side the river for marsh mellow roasting or just enjoying.
In the grassy area above the cabin there is a swing set, yard games and tether ball, lots of area to run and play. Fishing in the Yellowstone River from our property can be successful and a great experience in a blue ribbon trout stream.
We are only 10 minutes to Gardiner, the north entrance to Yellowstone. Our guests enjoy coming out of the Park in the evening to the quiet setting of the Cabin By the River.
I am a Montana native, 2nd generation (my grandparents homesteaded in northern Montana), and Warren has lived in Montana most of his life having grown up in Northern California. We have 3 grown children and 8 grandchildren, some living in the area. Warren is recently retired from the National Park Service and I manage the cabin. We love living in the mountains but also love to travel. We have been providing lodging for visitors for almost 19 years and have loved meeting wonderful people and sharing our corner of the world. We have a dog (Tillie) and a cat (Patch) who also enjoy our guests.
Wendi Burke purchased this cabin in 1995
We built our 'Cabin By The River' in 1995. For 10 years we operated it as a bed and breakfast. We are located in a small valley of the upper Yellowstone River. We have about 5 acres on the Yellowstone River. Our home and the cabin are on this acreage.
We love being close to the river and hearing it flow by at night. We are in a country setting with neighbors yet private. Guests enjoy fishing right here and having a fire in the fire ring by the river. The mountain views all around are spectacular. Sitting on the porch in the evening or early morning are beyond description!
The 6 of us stayed the week after Memorial Day, 9, 12, 13, 16 and two adults. We were greeted by a gentleman and then we were on our own, but they were a phone call away, but we never needed anything. The pictures really do not do the place justice; it is so cozy and really had adequate room for us. Our 3 youngest stayed upstairs in the loft with plenty of room, 16 year old took the fold out couch. The main area is a living room, table area and kitchen. Had a crock pot, full size oven, full size fridge, microwave, Ice trays in the freezer, and about any kind of plates, bowls, utensils, coffee, etc . In case anyone is curious, we did get wifi just fine. lol Also, plenty of linens for all 6 of us, kitchen towels too. Decorated so cute and just very well kept place.
We spent most evenings grilling on the propane grill on the porch, making use of the bench/couch swing, the rocking chairs and blanket (really, even blankets to snuggle in!), and the little table overlooking not just the Yellowstone river but also with a gorgeous view of the mountains. Completely shaded little cabin, we never even used the AC. Opened the windows at night to hear the river and kept the electric heat on just to keep it cozy. Can’t get much better right?
Well, did I mention this place is about 5-10 minutes out of Gardiner, right off the highway, BUT you never heard the traffic as you are tucked down by the river on the side of a hill. There’s a fire ring by the water, we didn’t get to use that because of the high water, but spent time looking for and collecting rocks with the kids, personal playground, basketball hoop, and a friendly horse grazing by the owners house.
Hit the local grocery store several times to get everything we needed. We stayed 3 nights and only ate at a restaurant once. We did hit several local places and hand scooped ice-cream in waffle cones at one –yum! Had pork chops in the crock pot waiting for us after the zip lining adventure at Montana White Water (highly recommend) and burgers on the grill when we got back that night from the white water rafting. Was so nice to have a little get away in between running through the park and to have a wonderfully, cozy, comfy bed to sleep in at night with no hotel doors slamming, vehicles or people to hear.
We so enjoyed our stay and I would love to go back with family or friends. HIGHLY recommend this “little” cabin.
Loved this little peace of heaven. Owners where very helpful with fishing advice. It was perfect for me my husband son, his wife and two grandkids. Very comfortable beds and a very beautiful view out front porch every morning, I enjoyed sitting on porch listening to Yellowstone River just out the door. Only recommendation I have is bring a bigger frying pan or an electric skillet fry pans are small for frying fish or chicken or even bacon and eggs.
Thanks so much for sharing your peace of heaven (and Tillie) with us.
Annette, Ron and kids
This is the perfect place to stay while visiting Yellowstone, it's close to Gardnier, MT, loved the town too. The cabin had everything we needed and the owners we very nice. I would recommend this place, it was perfect, loved how it was right on the river, very relaxing.
We had a wonderful family reunion in this beautiful house fantastically well located to visit the Yellowstone national park. The house is very well equipped with everything we needed.
Yellowstone National park was on my husband's bucket list, it was so nice to come back to the cabin after a day hiking in the park. Private, peaceful, and very homey, the sound of the river lulls you to sleep at night. The cabin was just as described and the owners answered are emails promptly. We never had a chance to meet Chris but Warren and was very friendly and helpful. Gardiner has many good restaurants and we tried several of them, each with good service and good food. My favorite part of our vacation was sitting on the porch swing listening to the river sometimes with Tillie at my feet.
This is the second time we have stayed at this Cabin and our third time in Gardiner, MT. We will not hesitate to come back to Gardiner and wouldn't stay anywhere else while there. Chris is such a great lady and is very flexible and kind. The cabin feels like home and you can crack the window at night to fall asleep to the sound of the river. Surrounded by trees and wildlife and best of all the river, this cabin is the best place to stay! Can't wait to go back.
Whitewater rafting, rodeos, dog sledding, Yellowstone Park activities, geysers, mountain views, hiking, skiing, hot spring dipping, horse back riding, wildlife viewing, excellent wildlife photography opportunities,(note our wildlife photos), and much more!
