Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2)

Our secluded ohana (guest home) features a grand, unobstructed view of the Pacific Ocean. The gentle breezes and typically sunny days of our small local neighborhood make this charming hideaway perfect for guests seeking tranquility, privacy, and convenience in a comfortable climate. Whales can be seen (and sometimes heard) from your lanai during their visit to our waters. Unaffected by any surrounding light, the night time is equally enchanting as the stars fill the full canopy of sky. However, all conveniences are so close you'll lack for nothing. Located only 1 mile from quaint, authentic Honokaa, all the amenities and services you may need are simply 5 minutes away. Famous attractions such as Waipio Valley, with its black sand beach, are a short drive as are waterfalls, beaches, and all recreational opportunities. If relaxing at home is your preference, you can enjoy the swimming pool and jacuzzi that we share with our guests.

Perfect Secluded Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I read these reviews and there isn’t much I can add, just concur. This is a beautiful place in a beautiful location, down the far end of the road, facing north, with only a small strip of forest between you and the ocean. It is centrally located for quick easy access to activities on the windward, wet side of the island, Hilo, Volcanoes NP, etc., and quick easy access to the beeches and activities on the drier leeward side of the island. Rachel is a great host. She doesn’t invade your privacy, but is right there if you need something. I spent two weeks there. I was able to watch whales from the lanai. I would/will most definitely stay there again.

Beautiful Location for Peaceful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Rachel, the kind and caring hostess of this retreat, made our stay special with plenty of Aloha. We would love to come back some day and stay here. Rachel had plumeria and roses on the tables to welcome us--so thoughtful.

Rachel is great with her communication and I never had to worry about check in or if she would return my call.

The ohana was clean and well kept; we enjoyed drinking our coffee on the lanai watching for whales (on the last day we saw whales and wild pigs). The view is gorgeous and we spent a lot of our time in the lounge chairs watching the ocean and the breeze in the palm trees. We were glad that there was a full size frig and oven so that we could cook some meals. The WiFi worked well and we even watched a couple of movies via Amazon during our week long stay.

Rachel and her family were never intrusive, but when we crossed paths, she always made sure that we had everything we needed and that we were happy.

The only small disappointment was that the hot tub was not working. We did not use the pool, but it was beautiful and well cared for.

Rachel lives the aloha and wants her guests to have a great vacation--I recommend staying here and would stay here again.

Amazing Holiday Experience!

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely way to spend a week on the Big Island! Rachel was a lovely, accommodating host. We enjoyed our time in her beautiful ohana. It was clean, well-supplied and the view from the lanai - spectacular!! This location is very easy access to the main road and from there...the whole island. We will be back!

Quiet and Cozy

  • 4 of 5

Of the endless beautiful views on Hawai'i, this home offers one of them. With nothing between you and the horizon but green grass and blue ocean, it's a great spot to relax and be together. The little cottage is completely separate from the main house and the privacy adds to the charm. The home is simply furnished and the kitchen is extremely well equipped - even to cooking oil and spices! The bed is comfortable and the owner, Rachel, makes sure you are, too. We hope for sunnier skies next time but the windward side of the island offers so much to see and do that the weather didn't trouble us. Thanks, Rachel, for providing us with all the comforts of home and for being such a terrific host and guide.

Serene Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I could not have found the more perfect getaway for our Big Island vacation. Spacious, well appointed, big pool, fabulous unobstructed ocean views and a fast and reliable Wifi connection. Rachel was always available but very respectful of our privacy. The location is perfect for exploring the island and a haven to rewind and relax. Quaint and charming Honokaa is only a short drive away for all the basic necessities, quirky shops and a couple of very good restaurants. Away from the maddening crowds one could feel the spirit of aloha residing in this verdant retreat.

Best VRBO on the Island!

  • 5 of 5

This was an amazing place to stay! Yes, it is a type of Ohana but the way it is situated it is very private from the owners house. Very clean, comfortable bed and everything you would need for a vacation. The view is drop dead gorgeous and the town of Honokaa is very charming. One of Rachel (the owner) sons Daniel took us on a hike to the sea cliffs, it was an unbelievable view. If we return to the Big Island we would definitely stay there again, it was a highligt of the trip. Also reasonable priced.
