About JoAnn Oto
Brent & JoAnn Oto, owners of the WaimeaPlantation Home, born and raised in Hawaii.
JoAnn Oto purchased this House in 2014
Why JoAnn Oto chose Kamuela
Located about 2,600 feet above sea level, Waimea is cooler than living along the coastline, yet is just a few minutes drive from some of the best beaches on island. It really is the best of both worlds! It is so beautiful with gingers, jasmine and green pastures and cool temperatures all year long. The beautiful lush and mature landscaping is a perfect private setting to sit and enjoy the views. Waimea is located between Hilo and Kona, so both sides of the island are easily accessible. The town is about 5 minutes away from the home.
What makes this House unique
Waimea is the land of rolling green hills, cowboys, and horses. We are blessed with truly beautiful landscape plus incredible views of the Kohala Mountains, Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and Hualalai. Sit on the patio deck in the morning and evening and view the occasional cows grazing on a huge pasture behind the house. Very peaceful and quiet neighborhood where neighbors wave hello as they pass by. Lots of fruit trees and flowering plants.

It was perfect for the get away weekend we needed!
A lovely home close to town - exactly what we desired And decorated so stylish and fun- a large lani with what scared the bagiggis out of us with cows crossing through in the dark HA LOVED IT!-residential but private- lots of furnishings to use - would absolutely recommend - Thank you
Lovely home. All we needed in Waimea
Home was as described and a great stay while we worked in the area.
Convenient and clean. Needs new bed in master bedroom, and we found the motion sensor lights distracting, but overall, very pleasant.
This is a lovely, well equipped home in a quiet neighborhood.
This home is very comfortable, clean, well furnished, well stocked. It felt just like home. I am happy that it was available for us. Thanks!
It was perfect for our wants.
This is a great location if you want a peaceful, quiet place to stay. It's well located to access hiking and snorkeling.
A private home
We were satisfied with the two bedroom home and accommodations. This was one of 12 places we stayed during our three island visit to Hawaii, and the only place that required us to purchase property protection insurance. Upon departure, we were notified there was a claim against an electric kettle that had been damaged. We did not use this appliance during our stay. I notified the owner and insurance carrier of this, but a $30.00 claim was submitted for coverage. This made us wonder why we were required to purchase property protection.
All guests that rent the home are required to either purchase property damage protection of $59, which covers up to $1500 in damages and/or missing items or they may choose to place a refundable security deposit. This is standard for all vacations rentals properties as well as hotel reservations when they ask for a credit card to be placed on file upon check in for incidentals or damages during check out. The property insurance requirement and fee is specifically stated on the reservation site, since no questions were asked from the guests regarding the insurance fee, it was assumed there were no concerns as the guests submitted an instant booking request for the owner to accept the reservation and payment. The property damage insurance is for the protection of the owner of the home as well as the guests that rent out the home should any damages occur during the stay. Although the majority of our guests have always taken great care of the home during their stays and we have had very little to no issues during check out inspections, accidents do happen. This is what the insurance coverage is for. Should guests have any questions regarding fees for any vacation rentals in the future, it is always recommended that they inquire with the owners/property manager prior to paying for the reservation. Mahalo for staying in our Waimea home.
