Overview

About the property

Guesthouse/Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2), garage, private beach

Our guesthouse is uniquely situated in a quiet neighborhood of summer homes on the spectacular all sand beach of Bowers Harbor on West Grand Traverse Bay. Ten miles from town, It is southwesterly facing with panoramic views from left to right of the Bowers Harbor Marina, Traverse City, beautiful Bowers Harbor, Power Island, Leelanau County and Neahtawanta Point. It is on the same piece of property, side-by-side with the owner's house on 110' of the most beautiful beach in the entire area, with 25' for your own private use.

Enjoy swimming in the gently sloped sand bottom lake with it's clear blue water and have a beach fire while you watch the sunset at night. Your smaller boat, kayaks and jet skis can be pulled up and kept on the beach. Our guesthouse has it's own natural path to the beach and the road is well behind the property, not between the guesthouse and the lake. Many guests have told us that this property is even better than the photos show.

There is wonderful walking and biking on trails and quiet roads right out the door of the guesthouse.

Day trips to the quaint villages of Elk Rapids, Suttons Bay, Frankfort, Glen Lake, Northport, Leland, Omena, Empire and the sand dunes, Beulah and Charlevoix make wonderful excursions. Old Mission Peninsula has many well known wineries, one within walking distance. Amazing restaurants are also nearby, including the Boathouse, a short 1000' walk down the beach from the guesthouse. A specialty grocery store with gas station are a mile away.

The guesthouse has central air conditioning and has been completely updated, see pictures. Outdoor accommodations include beach chairs with a table and beach umbrella on the beach, chairs and table in the shade over-looking the beach, as well as chairs on the covered patio.

Color tours and wine tasting are spectacular in the fall.

Traverse City area ammenities include 2 fabulous farmers' markets each week, the new Warehouse District with it's brew pubs, other downtown brew pubs, the Village at Grand Traverse Commons with it's unique restaurants (Stella's), Mercado and specialty shops, Interlochen Arts Academy concerts, and the state of the art Traverse City State Theatre with it's annual film festival in August.

Because of the nature of this property, only 2 people may occupy the guesthouse and no others are allowed to visit or accompany the renters. A damage/extra use deposit is collected at the time of the reservation. THE GUESTHOUSE IS FOR 1-2 QUIET, NON-SMOKING ADULTS, PLEASE NO PARTIES OR OTHER GUESTS AT ANY TIME.

To get a wide angle picture of the beach area go to Google Earth and enter Boathouse Restaurant, Traverse City, MI 49686. We are the 4th or 5th dock to the right of the restaurant as you face the water. Also scan out to see Power Island, a beautiful county park.

Keywords: Beachfront cottage with garage, 1 bedroom, all sand private beach with views of sunset and lights of nearby Traverse City, quiet and tranquil, day trips, wineries and restaurants, foodie destination.

About Nancy Nordfjord

My husband and I live on the property year-round, while most of our neighbors are summer residents. We are long-time professionals in the community. We love the area, our piece of this beach, and being able to share it with others.

Nancy Nordfjord purchased this house in 1984

Why Nancy Nordfjord chose Northwest

Our section of Bowers Harbor Beach is all pure, clean sand. Amazingly, it is not rocky and is pebble-free! We face southwest so sunset views happen on the beach with a fire in the fire container if you like - we supply the wood. It is the most beautiful beach and view in the area. The combination of gradual slope to deep water adds comfort and safety to water activities. We love the gorgeous east-to-west view of Bowers Harbor Marina, Traverse City (especially the lights at night), Power Island, Leelanau County and Neahtawanta Point. A very unique panoramic opportunity. Prior to 1984 we searched for years looking for everything this property has.

What makes this house unique

Our house and guesthouse are in a neighborhood of older or newly restored summer homes. It is uniquely beautiful, quiet, and has the best beach anywhere - did I mention it's a perfect pure sand beach with NO STONES? The original guesthouse has been updated throughout.

Our beach is unique in that it's all pure sugar sand with literally no rocks or pebbles. There are only 26 houses on this strip of beach, and other than the more public beaches, there is no other beach like it. The property is a beautiful and quiet place where tranquility and peacefulness abound. Many people have told us they have felt renewed by their time spent here.

Perfect getaway spot! Private, cozy, and clean.

  • 5 of 5

We loved this property! So cute and quaint, everything we needed, and we were thrilled to bring our two chihuahuas with us. The private beach area was wonderful, spent every evening there for the sunset and only saw other people (a few properties over) one time. Exploring the peninsula was lots of fun and we took a wonderful day trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes (truly a must see!) Several great restaurants are located on the pen sulfa too. One of our favorite vacation spots ever, we hope to stay here again!

What a Great Place!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful view, and a darling guest cottage. This place looks small on the pictures, but it is like staying in an oversized hotel suite. With the separate bedroom, and a pleasant sized living area, it is a great place. Spotlessly clean, and a great view. What more could you want??

Beautiful!! Everything you need!

  • 5 of 5

This adorable, newly renovated, squeaky clean cottage far exceeded our expectations! It has absolutely everything two people would need for a peaceful, relaxing vacation by the water. Gorgeous beach and in perfect proximity to all the fun stuff - downtown Traverse, the Wineries and of course the Jolly Pumpkin, (which we visited twice during our 2 night stay! :) Private and cozy, we will definitely be back, and for a longer stay! Two nights just wasn't enough. :)

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

I'm from Traverse City, but down live downstate now. I wanted a special getaway up north with my boyfriend. This was a perfect place to stay, whether you're familiar with the area or not. It was absolutely perfect! Nancy and her husband were easy to get ahold of before we arrived and were so friendly during our stay. The spot is quiet and romantic, the house was comfy and charming, and we loved going down to our own "private beach" first thing in the morning or at night for some relaxation. The location was nice too; we could do some wine tasting on the peninsula or go into town for more adventure. Thank you for a wonderful stay!!
