Enjoy the solitude of the many alpine trails as you hike or snowshoe past a bubbling creek. Recreate and recharge your body and soul while relaxing in a chair on the front lawn and enjoying the spectacular views of Mt. Harvard and Mt. Columbia. Or head in to historic Buena Vista, Colorado, about 8 miles away, to visit the many galleries, shops, and restaurants the area affords. The Arkansas River is just a mile away for those looking for world-class fishing, rafting, or kayaking. The Tomcat Ranch is also central to Aspen, Vail, and Summit County, and is two hours from Denver and Colorado Springs.

About The Owner

My husband and I live on the Tomcat Ranch with our three children, 3 dogs, and more cats than we can count! We agree that it's been a beautiful place to raise a family and love the connection we feel to the mountains and the wildlife. We love watching the hummingbirds swarm the feeder in the summer. The kids have grown up fishing in the lakes. We've hiked all over the property and into the mountains. We've watched herds of elk roam the ranch in the winter, with their calves. We've admired the beauty of the mountains -- from the snow-covered peaks of winter to the wildflower-filled valleys of summer. This is a beautiful spot!

The Owner purchased this house in 1996

Why The Owner chose South Central

In 1995, we visited this part of Colorado on a vacation and fell in love with the beauty of the area and the friendly people who live here. We bought a home and moved here the following year.

What makes this house unique

We love to go out for a hike around the ranch in the evening. The kids have used this as an opportunity to look for wildlife. In the summer, we'll pick wild raspberries or maybe the kids will spend some time fishing in the lakes. We've also done many, many hikes into the National Forest and up Mt. Harvard and Mt. Columbia. It's wonderful to be able to head out our back gate and be right in the National Forest.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This was our family's first visit to Colorado and we had the BEST time. A huge part of that was Tomcat Ranch. Given the large array of accomodations to choose from, we really felt like we hit the jackpot. The property is beautiful, the views are breathtaking, and there were so many things for the boys to do. They especially had fun fishing -- all three of them caught something!

AHmazing! Breathtaking! Can’t ask for more!

  • 5 of 5

This vacation rental checked off everything on my list. My significant other wanted to do some fishing, hiking, and a view of the mountains. This rental did not disappoint! Also, IT IS absolutely private! Mike and his wife Holly made sure that we had everything we needed and also made us feel right at home. This will definitely be a place that we will frequent when we want to get away. I recommend this place for your Colorado getaway!Mike and Holly thank you so much for your hospitality and next time join us for steaks!

Beautiful views from many windows in a spacious, clean, comfortable home. Kind, knowledgeable host.

  • 5 of 5

I highly recommend staying at this property. Being surrounded by mountains and having access to the Arkansas River makes Buena Vista an ideal place to relax, and to play. Having a spacious, clean, well appointed home to stay in, complete with all kitchenware to cook and serve your own meals, comfortable beds, an outdoor fireplace, shade and sun and outdoor chairs, a pond to fish, many choices of trails to hike, and a host who generously offers full access to gorgeous property, makes a stay Here a true vacation from a busy life. The owner was welcoming, knowledgeable, attentive, and quick to provide our needs. Our family group of 6 adults ranging in age from 63 to 94, with varied interests and abilities ( running, hiking, walking, meditating, fishing ...), was delighted to have such a picturesque and comfortable place to re-connect, re-charge, and recreate. We hope to return soon!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the guest house. The property is gorgeous! We would definitely plan a trip back here! Mike and Holly were gracious hosts and took the time to show us around the property and gave us great recommendations for the area.

Relax in Mountain Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We spent our 20th Anniversary here and had an unforgettable time. Nestled in the foothills of Mt. Harvard and Mt. Columbia this retreat had everything for us. A nice pergola to sit and enjoy the view, a robust fire pit, hiking trails right from the front door, interesting wildlife, abundant and varied vegetation, privacy, and proximity to Buena Vista for trips to the store or for a nice meal. Mike and Holly were excellent hosts who were willing to answer questions and show us around their incredible property. We hiked right out the door through the property and into national forest every morning. The kitchen was adequately supplied. The beds were comfortable. The house might not be as updated as some but it is very clean and tidy and felt like home to us. Although we visited in early June, I would love to plan a fall and even a winter trip here as it would be such a different experience. We plan to return again soon! Thanks Mike and Holly! This is how a VRBO is supposed to be run.

Great spot, plenty of space and good hikes in every direction.

This was a perfect location for a family of 6 trying to stay a little out of BV and let the kids explore without much worry.

Thanks Mike and Holly!

amazing getaway at an amazing property!

  • 5 of 5

We want to thank Mike and family for their amazing kindness and hospitality. The property is so beautiful and wonderful. I actually decided to propose to my now-fiance at the cabin, it was just the perfect setting and the moment was right (I brought the ring just in case!) The cabin and location and experience will be forever a part of our hearts and memories, and we are so grateful for the opportunity to come and stay. We can happily recommend a stay to anyone who is looking to get into the mountains for a while. There are a few nice restaurants nearby in the town proper and there are plenty of gorgeous trails to hike nearby, and even a few on the property! Unfortunately we didn't do much hiking as my fiance was dealing with a knee injury, but if you can hike there's plenty to do! And we just adored Charger, the family dog who came to visit us both days at the cabin. Overall a fantastic experience that we will reflect on for the rest of our lives! Thank you Mike and family!
