Located at the headwaters of the Arkansas river, the lodge is located about 2 miles from scenic Twin Lakes, which has a small grocery store. It is also located almost halfway between historic Leadville (approx. 15 miles away), and Buena Vista (approx. 20 miles away), and a short 45 mile drive over Independence Pass to Aspen (note pass is closed during winter months). There are grocery stores, churches, shops, etc. in each of these towns.
Grinning Bear Lodge is also located at the heart of Leadville's annual Summer Racing Series - Leadville's Trail Marathon and Heavy Half; Leadville Trail 100 Run; Camp of Champions; Silver Rush 50 MTB; Silver Rush 50 Run; Silver King & Silver Queen; Leadville Trail 100 MTB; Climax Molybdenum Leadville 10K Run; Leadville Trail 100 Run; and (dates vary) Leadville Leadman and Leadwoman
Year-round seasonal activities include:

Year Purchased: 2009
About: I am a Colorado native living in Littleton, but I have traveled out of the country on a number of occasions, visiting places such as England, Spain, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Canada. I grew up in Conifer, Colorado, which is about an hour's drive from Denver. We had horses, dogs and cats growing up and and endless space to ride horses, hike and snowmobile.
Why Twin Lakes, CO, USA (Lake County):
This cabin was my dream for years, and was finally completed in 2009. It is my second home and I love giving others the opportunity to enjoy it as much as I do myself. Picturesque and secluded, at the base of Mount Elbert, the property looks over the Mosquito Range. The panoramic views are amazing, and the proximity to not only Twin Lakes, but jeep trails, beaver ponds, hiking trails, and even the town of Aspen give you a number of activities to choose from. I truly think you will be amazed at the beauty and tranquility of the area - I have such a hard time leaving every time I come up!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
I love log homes, and this open floor plan with the high ceilings, beetle kill hardwood on the walls and floors, the slate flooring in the bathrooms, the shower and under the wood-burning stove, along with the soft carpet in the large 800 sq. ft. loft. The half log staircase leading to the loft just adds to the beauty of the place! There is virtually no room in the place that doesn't offer a spectacular view. Enjoy a 'cabin' atmosphere, yet be in luxury.
