About Judy and Ralph Calderone

We are retired educators from New Jersey and we would not consider living anywhere else. We are at our happiest when our 3 grown children, their spouses and our 12 grandchildren visit. Ralph and Judy are active tennis players and are members of the Ellsworth Tennis Center. Ralph has also built a stained glass studio where he creates his art work mostly incorporated into our home and as gifts to our children. Both of us do volunteer work and serve on a local board of directors for developmentally handicapped adults and children.

Why Judy and Ralph Calderone chose Bar Harbor

We were first attracted to Mount Desert Island in 1972 when we visted the island with 3 young children. We loved having Acadia National Park so accessible for all our outdoor activities and entertainment. We especially liked hiking and biking the carriage trails, climbing the many mountain trails, swimming in both Echo Lake and Sand Beach and picking wild blueberries!

What makes this cottage unique

Restaurants are located all over the island. Whether you like casual, rustic, or fine dining , with our advice and direction, I'm sure you'll find many to suit your likes.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for the beautiful house & being such good neighbors. You have a great view and we loved watching the Olympics with a view. Thanks again.

Perfect Location to Acadia 15 or 20 minutes. The house is spacious for our family of with a beautiful view. the kids really enjoyed feeding the horses in the back. Washer and dryer was convenient. Ample information of restaurants and nearby activities. Very organized and no detail left out from the cottage. Owners were very helpful and accommodating. Thanks for a memorable week.

Ideal location with beautiful sunsets

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week here! Ralph and Judy were the perfect hosts. The kids loved Ralph's suggestion Beech Cliff trail, we enjoyed looking through the articles and write ups on Acadia. The house had wonderful spaces to relax, whether on the deck viewing the beautiful sunsets or on the side porch catching the afternoon breezes. We enjoyed playing bocce as well as playing pool most evenings. The kitchen was well stocked and the weather was ideal! We recommend this cottage to any family looking for a relaxing and memorable vacation!

Thank you, Ralph &Judy!

Owner's Response: So glad you and your family enjoyed staying in our cottage. As you probably realized that even though you were out and about and busy everyday, there is just so much more on MDI and in Acadia to interest you when you return in the near future. The cottage will be waiting your return!

Quiet setting yet close to everything

  • 5 of 5

Judy and Ralph were very helpful. Even though they are right next door, it felt as if we had the whole property to ourselves. They gave us an overview of the best restaurants, closest grocery, best hikes, and other things to do. The boys really enjoyed playing Bocce and pool at the house as well. Mt. Desert Island is full of adventures and the house is within a 20 minute drive from everything. Just a warning--cell service and wifi reliability are spotty on the island. This is a true getaway.

Owner's Response: We are so happy you enjoyed your visit to Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island. A week is barely enough time to just get a taste of what Acadia National Park and the area has to offer. We'd love to have you come back and visit us again.

Perfect Spot for Acadia

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week here. The house is comfortable, well equipped and full of extras. Just far enough from the crowds and close enough to everyplace we wanted to visit. Fall colors were at their peak and we could have just stayed in the house all week and had a fine time in the yard and on the deck. Judy and Ralph are perfect hosts. Michael and Barbara

Mt. Desert Island/Acadia vacation

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our long awaited visit to Acadia NP and Mt. Desert Island. You can get anywhere on the island or mainland easily. If you don't want to leave the house there is plenty to do; play pool, bocce ball, walk the garden and grounds, listen to the birds, look for wildlife, watch beautiful sunsets over the water and behind Blue Hill. Judy and Ralph were the perfect hosts. They answered our many questions whether it was about directions, history or meals. They are there if you need them or nonintrusive. We did not want to leave and will go back if we have the opportunity!
