About John/Linda Gurney

I'm a retired Healthcare Administrator and my wife is a practicing Clinical Social Worker in private practice. We purchased the land in 1965 and built in "83. Additions added in 2007.

John/Linda Gurney purchased this house in 1983

Why John/Linda Gurney chose Martha's Vineyard

This is a family home that we now rent. We also have a two bedroom apartment on the property that we use for ourself, primarily on weekends.

What makes this house unique

What we find attractive about the Vineyard is that the character of the island has not changed in the 51 years that we have been going there. There is more activity and certainly more homes than in the past but the feel is the same and the island remains a safe place to visit and enjoy the tranquility the Vineyard offers.

Best Vacation Rental Ever

  • 5 of 5

I have enjoyed vacationing on Martha's Vineyard for over 20 years and this rental was absolutely the best I have ever experienced. Extremely clean and comfortable, with all the amenities you could possibly need. As others have said, a true home away from home. As long as these lovely people offer their home, I won't stay any where else. Thanks again to John. I enjoyed our conversations and hope to see you again :)

A REAL HOME AWAY FROM HOME

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) and we spent a week at John and Linda's house.

Everything was perfect starting with the hosts. John and Linda were there to make sure we had all we needed. The house is big and has everything a family could hope for to spend a perfect time without running around the store all the time. There was enough room for all of us and more.

A REAL HOME AWAY FROM HOME. Our kids loved exploring all the rooms(Den, living room, sitting room-porch, dining room, 2 bedrooms and mezzanine). What more can you ask for!

Also worth mentionning, it was one of the cleanest places that we've rented(and we rented a lot).

There's a beach at the end of the street but there's plenty of beach within a 15 min drive.

Oak Bluff, Edgartown, Vineyard Haven are towns that you want to see with a lot of restaurants and shopping where you can buy whatever you want to buy.

We want to say a special thank you to John and Linda and hope to see you again in the future.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the very nice review. We do make an effort to be sure our guests have sufficient knowledge of the Vineyard to make the most of their visit to the island if they are first time visitors. We try to make them as comfortable as is reasonable. We were very pleased with how well our guests cared for our home while they enjoyed the island. We thank them for the effort they made. Respectfully, John Gurney

A great place to wind down!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here for almost three weeks in June and had a wonderful time. The house was all that we needed it to be and located perfectly between Oak Bluffs and Vinyard Haven. The owners were very friendly and very helpful. We hope it's available for our next trip to the Vinyard!

Excellent rental!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here this past July. There are 6 adults. I have been renting on the island for over 20 years and i must say, this home was the most spacious for the money. There are 3 large living areas which make this home not only spacious, but provides the ability to have privacy and quiet at any time. There is also a lovely deck to sit out on and the area is so quiet! The home has slept the 6 of us quite nicely. The owners were extremely social and helpful to us with any concerns or questions. I will rent this home again!!!

Perfect Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

This home was a perfect rental for our annual summer vacation on the vineyard. It was centrally located between all the major towns and made it easy get around the island. The house was incredible clean and roomy. At times we had six people staying there plus friends dropping by and we were all comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with all the cooking utensils we needed. The deck was a awesome addition as we like to spend as much time outdoors as possible. We've already booked it for next summer and I would recommend this rental to all.

Great Location, Great House

  • 5 of 5

We really loved staying at the house and will definitely rent it when we return to Martha's Vineyard. We love biking and could bike into town in 5 minutes or so. The house was incredibly clean with plenty of room, including a screened-in porch. Friends stopped by for a visit and said that they too are now planning to rent it on their next visit. The owners were super and were very helpful in recommending places to go. The neighborhood is nice and quiet on a side street with no traffic.
