Old Town is a great location for your DC assignment. So much to do, and being so close to metro and major highways makes the commutes in to the city or to Pentagon and bases quick and easy. Plenty of shops, restaurants, and historic attractions. You can walk to almost everything and have access to water, and long hiking/biking trails that connect the city. East to west, Old Town runs about 1.5 miles; north to south, about two miles. You can literally walk the entire town from end to end!

4 blocks east is the picturesque Potomac River waterfront with its 8 parks. 2 blocks south is King St Market Square (Saturday morning year-round farmer’s market), award-winning restaurants, cafes and over 100 locally owned shops. 5 blocks north is Trader Joe's and Harris Teeter. 3 blocks west is Alexandria City Library. Art galleries and the renowned Torpedo Art Factory and Art League, coffee bars, wine shops, specialty ice cream shops, live theater, fitness and massage studios, live music abound. From the waterfront, hop on a Water Taxi to get to Nationals Park for a baseball game, or to Georgetown or National Harbor for even more shopping or dining experiences. 6 mi commute north to the Pentagon (30 mins by bike on the Mount Vernon Trail, or 30mins by bus) and the 14th Street Bridge into DC. 4 miles/10 min drive north to DCA airport. 2 metro stops and countless bus stops within walking distance. 20 min walk to Braddock Rd metro stop. Old Town also offers its own Amtrak stop.
