About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms + Den, 5.5 Baths, (Sleeps 10 -14)

Spend down time in this luxury downtown five bedroom historic old Shore Crest Retreat, a newly renovated turn of the 19th century off Main Street residence, once the home to Olympic participants. A stone's throw away from Main Street and Mirror Lake, this spacious and very private rental offers all the amenities that an ideally situated downtown location can offer without the hustle and bustle of Main Street.

From its large sitting room with original stone fireplace and wood paneling, walk out on its grand porch to lake and mountain views, July’s fireworks celebration and show almost in your lap, access to restaurants, shopping, and free shuttle service to must-see destinations. The Olympic Arena, Convention Center, ice skating rink, local movie theater, and public beach are within immediate walking distance of this, your rental. Ironman competition and participation couldn’t be any more convenient. Just one hundred feet from your front door to Main Street, catch the free Mountain Valley Shuttle Service for skiers and riders to Whiteface Mountain and ski resort.

Free weekly concerts all summer (see photo of Rusted Root performing) at the band shell in Mid's Park are right there for your pleasure from the comfortable vantage point of our veranda.

Renovations to and remodeling of this vintage home were completed in June of 2011. Each bedroom suite is fitted with its own full sized tiled bathroom and multiple sleeping accommodations. The master bedroom suite also has an additional small room with trundle sofa bed and a screened in sleeping porch overlooking Mirror Lake, Mount Marcy and the distant mountain range. This stately grand home is tastefully decorated with antique and Mission style lighting, hardwood floors, ample closet and storage space, an open living and connecting dining room, a fully equipped eat in kitchen with cherry cabinets, maple butcher block counter tops, high tech appliances, all tiled showers, and a laundry room with a washer and dryer. Simply and tastefully furnished with oriental rugs and antique furniture, this comfortably fitted home with all its amenities also offers convenient and ample off street parking. This mainstream Main Street home affords you the ability to park your vehicle for the duration of your stay unless you were to drive the fifteen minutes to Whiteface Mountain or other nearby attractions. Its attached one bedroom apartment (VRBO #652809) can also be rented separately or with the Main house to sleep an additional 4 guests.

Come visit in this unique situation and quaint setting in the heart of downtown Lake Placid, a great getaway for up to 14 people and newly built for your comfort, convenience and enjoyment. Location, Location, Location!

About Madeleine Killeen

As antiques dealers for over 30 years, we have applied our many years of experience in the decorative arts into restoring and decorating what was once and is again an elegant Mission style home. We have retained what we could of the home's honesty but have modernized it for today's market and livability. As a result, once referred to as the 'Bumstead House' and serving as an Inn for many of the 1930's Olympic participants, Shore Crest has retained its original wood paneling, hardwood floors, and stone fireplace, and has been lovingly restored to its old glory.

Madeleine Killeen purchased this house in 2006

Why Madeleine Killeen chose Adirondack Mountains

We had been vacationing in Lake Placid for years and thought that the best of all worlds could be had in the purchase of a home that was as convenient to all amenities as this one was and is.

Our party of 10 -- 5 couples arrived on a cold snowy day and were greeted by a friendly, informative house manager. The house/home is beautiful -- old mixed with new. We loved the bedroom/bathroom combinations! Our group now has a new requirement for vacations -- a private bathroom for each couple! The living space was homey and comfortable. We all ate together at the large dining room table and had fun watching movies in the living room. The kitchen was very well equipped and it was nice to have a cupboard of spices and cooking essentials to share. The best part of Shore Crest is it's proximity to Main St -- it couldn't be closer! We had a wonderful time and hope to return. The booking process was simple and the owners were easy to deal with and got right back to me with any question I had. Thanks for sharing your home with us.

We have a wonderful stay in LP. The house was a nice place for our group to hang out and relax. It had bedrooms and bathrooms for our large group and is in the heart of LP.

Absolutely perfect!!

  • 5 of 5

This property was just perfect for our family of 8. We were in New York to visit our son near Albany and this was a perfect place to hang out and catch up. The convenience to town, the views from the front porch, the bedroom/bathrooms made for a fabulous three day get-a-away. We were lucky to view the beautiful fall colors, and it was just a short drive away from some great hiking. We hiked Mt. Jo with our 20 mth old grandson, and the views were great. The house over looks Mirror Lake and was less than a block to a launch point for our son’s kayak. This place was hard to leave, we all found it so relaxing.

Great house, not the easiest registration process

  • 4 of 5

Our extended family of 9 people stayed at the house in October and the house was wonderful. It was in great condition and each bedroom had it's own bathroom, which worked great for so many couples. The location was just a half block from the main street and made it incredibly easy for us to wander around the area. Madeleine was extremely responsive and resolved the couple of small issues we had immediately. The house had a lovely view of the lake and had everything we needed inside it. From the time we arrived to the time we left, everyone continued to remark on how much they were enjoying the house.

The only challenge we had was that the process for reserving the house was done completely via paper. We had to mail multiple checks and complete a contract listing out every person staying at the house. While none of it was unreasonable, I found myself asking why most if not all of it couldn't be done electronically. It's a small hassle, but it would be a nice upgrade.

A Perfect 10!

  • 5 of 5

Our extened family of 10 spent a wonderful weekend at Shore Crest in mid August. The house was fabulous - it has to be the best location in Lake Placid village, 1/2 a block from Main Street. There is a large porch with comfortable furnishings overlooking Main St and Mirror Lake - we spent a lot of time there. The kitchen is modern and well stocked and was immaculate - as was the rest of the house. Each bedroom had a private, spacious, modern full bath. Lake Placid has something for everyone - we definitely plan to go back to Shore Crest again!

An A+ Family Vacation Spot

  • 5 of 5

This property gets an A+ from our family! We rented it for our annual August family vacation and were extremely pleased with the experience. The house was larger than we had expected and the front porch was a delightful surprise. It overlooked both the lake and Main Street and was a great place to gather for morning coffee, games, and snacks. The photos of the house and porch do not indicate how spacious the property is. Shore Crest's location cannot be beat. We were within walking distance (one block) from the paddle boat rentals, the movie theater as well as all the restaurants and shops on Main Street. Our teens loved being able to walk to dinner. An additional pleasant surprise was the brick sidewalk around the lake, providing 2.7 miles to walk, run, or stroll. The house is also within walking distance of the beach and the Olympic village and museum as well as an excellent hike (Cobble Trail.) Our more adventurous hikers were within 20-30 minutes of the 6 Adirondack Peaks and earned their badge this week! We rented both the house and the apartment and found everything to be well furnished and equipped as well as extremely clean. Our hosts were friendly, professional and attentive, and our family hopes to return next summer. We all highly recommend this rental for families or anyone who wants a great Lake Placid vacation !
