About the property

4BR, 4 Bath close-to-town location in the Lake Placid Club area

As Lake Placid Club grew from its inception in 1895, it experienced many expansive changes. At it's height, the private club included 6,000 acres in an extensive development of accommodations, recreation facilities, service buildings, farmland and forest. In the early part of the 1900s certain members of the club were no longer satisfied with the hotel-like accommodations in the large club house. Over time some 40 cottages were built near, but separate from, the main building. Today, fewer than a dozen of these historic buildings remain. Our house, Juniper Cottage, built in 1923, is one of them. The total renovation of the property, completed in July 2005, has been as respectful as possible to the original Juniper and is designed to maximize its secluded forest setting and the variety of mature trees which surround the house.

Juniper has 4 bedrooms each with their own screened in porch and bathroom. The master bedroom has a gas fireplace (gas), queen bed, sitting area with two chairs, and a closet. A second bedroom on the main floor has a queen bed and closet. The third main floor bedroom has two twin beds and a bathroom with whirlpool tub. The fourth bedroom is located down a spiral staircase from the main floor to a walkout lower level. This bedroom has two twin beds and a private bathroom. The laundry room is also downstairs with both a washing machine and dryer.

The living room has a 14 foot cathedral ceiling, great views of the forest and a large stone fireplace. The room is perfect for sitting around the fireplace reading, chatting, watching TV, or listening to music on the Sonos system. Juniper is equipped with an iMac and high speed internet. Want to unplug? Then feel free to read one of the many books at Juniper, play one of the board games or do an old-fashioned jigsaw buzzle.

The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, gas range and oven, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, microwave and a large selection of dishware, glassware, pots, pans, utensils, etc. If you prefer to grill, there is a gas grill right outside the front door.

If you come in the winter to ski, we have plenty of room for your equipment. There are racks to hold eight sets of skis. Also, inside the front door is a small, heated mud room with benches and coat racks so you can easily remove your winter clothes and boots without bringing them into the cottage.

There is a small shed near the parking area of Juniper to put garbage and recyclables. And in the back yard there is a hammock for enjoying the good weather and a lean-to in case you want to spend a night outdoors.

Juniper is close (10 minute walk) to town but situated in a private-wooded setting. This allows for privacy when grilling and/or dining outside. Or just when sitting with your family and friends around the outdoor fire pit roasting marshmallows.

From Juniper Cottage you can easily access many activities. It is a short walk or bike ride into town and all that that has to offer. On the Lake Placid Club grounds there are three golf courses designed by Scots for the Lake Placid Club. There are also tennis courts and a private beach on Mirror Lake adjacent to the Boat House Restaurant.

There is access to many hiking (and biking) trails right outside the front door. In the winter, these trails are great for cross country skiing. With a car, skiing at the Whiteface is 15 minutes away. In all seasons, near-by activities and attractions are truly limitless.

About Eric and Leanne Burrell

We have been vacationing in Lake Placid for the last twenty years. It is our favorite family vacation spot regardless of the season because there is always something to do.

In addition, we love the international feel of Lake Placid and enjoy meeting people from all over the world.

Eric and Leanne Burrell purchased this house in 2013

Why Eric and Leanne Burrell chose Lake Placid

The private setting that is only minutes from downtown Lake Placid is what drew us to this property. Also, we love that it is in the historic Lake Placid Club with access to golf, tennis, and a private beach.

What makes this house unique

Adorable cottage in great setting! Juniper is cozy but big enough for large families and/or groups of couples or friends. Each bedroom has its own bath and private screened in porch. If your feeling adventurous and want to sleep outside bring your sleeping bag and spend your night in the ADK lean-to in the back yard. We fell in love with this cottage the moment we saw it. We're pretty sure you will like it too. Its secluded setting, close proximity to town and just about anything else you plan to do make it the perfect Lake Placid get away.

Great long weekend at Juniper Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic long weekend at Juniper Cottage! The house was just as described. It was clean and very comfortable. We were a group of 6 adults and had plenty of room to spread out. Every couple had their own bedroom and bathroom. We loved the wrap around enclosed porch and had our coffee out there every morning. We really enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and the adirondack chairs around it.

The cottage has a large open living, dining room area. We played games at night at the table and had plenty of room. It was a nice feature to have the Sonos system for music.

We enjoyed the decor in the cottage and it really gave it the Adirondack atmosphere. The kitchen was well equipped with all the essentials and the appliances were all great. We ate out most the time but did cook one breakfast. Towels and linens were provided which was a nice feature.

The cottage is secluded but still close to everything. We walked around Mirror Lake and into town one afternoon.

Leanne and Eric responded quickly to my questions and had some good recommendations.

We had a great dinner at the Monkey Bar in the Interlaken Inn. It was a fun and casual place to eat. We also tried Smoke Signals and The Breakfast Club. All were fantastic. The hikes we did were great and the views were beautiful.

I highly recommend Juniper Cottage and we definitely will stay there again.

Wonderful cozy and private cottage

  • 5 of 5

It is a wonderful comfy and cozy cottage situated in the perfect spot in Lake Placid. It is a short distance into town but also feels like you are secluded enough from the busyness of town. My family had a wonderful time playing games and just hanging out at the cottage and then going into town. Thank you

Great place to stay. 15 minute walk to town, but well worth the isolation.

Home is in excellent condition.

Great location and cottage

  • 5 of 5

We have been visiting Lake Placid for many years but this is the first time we rented a house there. It made the whole experience even better. Juniper cottage is located perfectly close to down town and Mirror Lake for an easy walk, but far enough that it is really quite. The cottage is setup with every thing you need for a stay, beds are comfortable, kitchen is fully stocked with utensils and cookware, all you need is food and the fun begins. We highly recommend it and will be back ourselves next year.

Privacy and Proximity

  • 5 of 5

Our week long stay at Juniper Cottage was lovely. The cottage is roomy; with 6 adults, we never felt crowded. The 4 bedrooms, baths and private screened porches provided everyone with a little bit of privacy. We enjoyed several nights at the fire pit. The cottage is nestled in the woods with a sense of privacy and yet you are close enough to walk into town to enjoy some food, spirits or shopping. The furnishings are very nice and comfortable. The kitchen is galley style and a bit small but we had no problems and it is nicely stocked. We are planning a return in 2018!
