Overview

About the property

6 Bedrooms, 2 full Bathrooms, 1 1/2 bathroom, Sleeps 12, Sauna, Bar, dive tower

Branch lake is known as one of the top rated lakes in Maine for its water purity and very unique sparse population as its the watershed for Ellsworth. Less than half the lakeshore is developed, especially the Southern end, making one feel wonderfully cutoff from civilization! Mainguy's is one of the nicest or best camps on Branch Lake for its location and amenities just off Route 1, center lake location, deep water frontage with a dive tower, small beach, lakeside fireplace and exceptional knotty pine interior with top of the line appliances, new beds, dry sauna, bar, stereo system, Wifi & two Samsung 55 inch LCD TV's with full cable. The year round house/camp was totally gutted from top to bottom and remodeled a few years ago and is just 40 feet from the waters edge. Ideally designed for families or 2 couples as there are 2 separate indoor entertainment areas. There is 1 ground floor bedroom with a queen, 2 bedrooms with full beds, 1 master king bedroom on the 3rd level which has a 1/2 bathroom, and a bunk bedroom along with a loft hosting a very plush full futon bed. The kitchen is completely remodeled with state of the art appliances, dual oven, 36 inch fridge with ice maker , dual gas stove and dishwasher along with a convection microwave oven. Hardwood flooring is laid throughout the 1st floor including the kitchen along with new wrap around quartz countertops. The house has all new linen and towels you will need along with all kitchen utensils and dishes. The rooms are all carpeted except for the master bedroom with hardwood flooring. The ground floor has industrial carpeting as the sliding glass door exit finds you right near the sand beach and can handle the sandy traffic in and out. The hammock right near the dock is often fought over during the day or evening as a perch to watch the fire in the lakeside fireplace. Sunsets from the deck are magic! A very scenic 30 minute drive takes you into the famed Acadia National Park or towards Bucksport to start a must do memorable drive along the coastline down to Camden with all the roadside charm and antique shopping.

About Peter Mainguy & Heather Carle

I am currently the General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton Millenia in Singapore and have been in the hospitality industry for 30 years throughout Europe, Africa, Middle East/Gulf and now Asia. I consider Maine home and will eventually stay there once my career ends. I have two other properties in Liberty Maine as I love the topography, people, fresh air, simplicity, wilderness with key infrastructure at your doorstep along with the incredible charm of the coastal area between Bar Harbor and Camden.

Peter Mainguy & Heather Carle purchased this house in 1993

Why Peter Mainguy & Heather Carle chose Ellsworth

I went to Husson University in Bangor Maine. Having grown up in Europe, I had never seen such pristine wilderness within reach of major infrastructure at an affordable price. I fell in love with the idea of owning a camp on the water immediately and call it home as I travelled the world. I finally found this place on Branch that ticked off all the boxes and over the years, built it from its simple seasonal beginnings into my idea of what a lakeside camp should look, feel like and offer. I wanted a place that was easy to access, close to everything, offer great swimming from the shore yet be able to pull up in a sailboat with a keel, stunning water views, be close to the waters edge, and to top it all off, feel like I was in a very isolated area.

What makes this house unique

Again, besides the incredible location just off route 1, lake centered, the lot is surrounded by the best homes on the lake, just on the cusp of a small bay overlooking a little private public island. The small beach is ideal for swimming off of and the dive tower offering kids and adults alike hours of entertainment. Mornings are exceptionally tranquil with picturesque sunsets in the evenings. The moments of roasting some marsh-mellows over an open fire at the lakes edge while sipping some wine or enjoying a beer will forever be etched in your memory. I have pulled in Salmon, trout and bass off my dock in the early mornings but mostly enjoy the swimming and snorkeling just off the property. I love boating to the 2 public beaches. One is right across the lake from the property next to a public boat launch and the other at the Southern tip under a bridge next to the dam. There are a few small islands in the Northern end. What I call a benefit is the fact of many unmarked rocks throughout the lake fun to explore and a nightmare for non lake dwellers keeping public boating significantly down. Branch Lake is essentially a giant well with its deepest point of 124 feet! A great hike off the beaten path only 13.2 miles away (or drive your jeep up the steep rock face!!) is the abandoned but safe to climb Bald Mountain Fire Tower which offers stunning views of Branch and surrounding area. The easy recognizable pathway due to the bare rock starts at the bottom of Johnson's Road just a few yards off Bald Mountain Road.

Great Place!

  • 5 of 5

Couldn't have been happier with our stay at Heather and Peter's place. The house is in a great location on Branch Lake and the sand beach, hammock, swimming dock and diving platform made it hard to go inside. The house seems like it has been completely renovated in the past few years and included everything we could have asked for in a vacation rental. Heather was a pleasure to work with and made getting in and out a breeze. Overall a 10 out of 10.

A Dream Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We decided to have our family reunion near Acadia but wanted all the benefits of being in a luxurious home on a pristine lake. Didn't we ever make the right choice. Personalized service from Peter, Heather and new helper Linda. The house was impeccably clean, 3 bathrooms to handle our needs with basic but well appointed bedrooms. The 2 floors of entertainment space is ideal for adults/kids. The outdoor fireplace by waters edge roasting marshmallows was a real treat after swimming off an amazing little beach and jumping off the 10 foot tower all day by all.

The well appointed kitchen & twin stove was put to great use. We couldn't fault a thing. 2 big new TVs with every channel allowed the boys to keep up with their sports in the evenings while the ladies enjoyed wine on the deck.

Peter & Heather bought 3 new kayaks this year and we had them in constant use.

We strongly recommend this luxury lake house for couples and families who demand it all.

Perfect home on an awesome lake

  • 5 of 5

Wow, this home did not disappoint. It was in great shape inside and out. There were 13 of us, 6 adults, 7 kids, and 2 dogs and we had plenty of room. The layout of the home was perfect for us. The boys took over the entire third floor which has the master bedroom, but is the only bedroom which could accommodate extra blow up mattresses. The lake is so clean and a good size, not much boat traffic which was nice for kayaking. I really hope to rent this home again next year, I don't think I could find a better rental for all of us.

Thank you again for letting us stay!

Lovely place, everything as described.

  • 5 of 5

It was at full capacity with our family yet we never felt crowded as the home is very open and offers plenty of spacious living. Perfect swimming area - shallow for the toddlers and deep for the divers! The hammock held many afternoon naps!

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

We had a family reunion camp week at this beautiful location. It was absolutely fantastic. The camp is spacious and there was plenty of room for every one to spread out and enjoy everything from quiet reading to playing games. The children mostly played in the lower level, their choice, and could be a loud and silly as they wanted while the adults enjoyed the main level. Everyone had an amazing week. Plenty of space for adding a few air beds in the king room upstairs. Having a bathroom on all three levels was excellent, and the bathrooms of the main and lower levels were beautiful, felt like you were in a expensive spa! OH, and The showers, AMAZING!! Well stocked kitchen with a nice big fridge to hold a weeks worth of food. When we did need to run to the store Ellsworth is close by and offers everything you could need. The swimming is wonderful, Branch Lake has beautiful, clear water, everyone enjoyed lake immensely . The beach is perfect for the younger kids and the docks and diving platform gave the adults lots of enjoyment as well! Everyone enjoyed this beautiful location and if you have any questions Heather was just a text away to answer any questions. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect place for our week. We are already starting a plan to return next summer. If I could give this place 20 stars I would!! Thank you Peter and Heather!! Excellent, Excellent,Excellent

There are many must see sites along the coast from Acadia National Park, climb the 'Bee Hive' Fort Knox in Bucksport, dining in Camden but something exciting nearby is climbing the Fire Tower on Bald Mountain 31.2 miles from the camp. Drive North on 1A towards Bangor a few miles and take the road on your right clued Winkumpaugh, after a few miles take a right onto Happytown Road which leads onto Bald Mountain Road. Very shortly thereafter is a road to your right as the road bends called Johnsons Road. The path is a hundred or so yards down the road. Its possible for the very brave to drive up the path as its pure rock face, but very steep. If your brakes fail on decent...... The Fire Tower offers stunning views and is abandoned but safe/sturdy.

For those of you wanting to rent a motorized boat, there is lake delivery & pickup from downeastboatrentals and owner is Robert Marshal and can be reached on 207-565 2087 or 207-460 6898.

Dear Valued Guest/s
Please do not park your cars in the driveway below the start of the house as just beneath the surface is the cement storage tank and leach field. It would be very embarrassing for all of us to pull your car out of the tank! You can drive over it to unload items below but do not let it sit there.
