Solitude and Fun at Great Pond: The exclusive property sits on a knoll above your own private beach on Great Pond-- pristine, freshwater, sandy bottomed, warm and swimmable in the Cape Cod National Seashore. You will be away from it all, surrounded by pine forest and sand roads. Walking distance to the ocean. Private raft.

Fall / Winter / Spring / Summer : Stay in the Big House, gaze at the water, walk the sand roads, and spy on our resident heron as you nestle by the fireplace. Enjoy the quiet of Wellfleet as it returns to its roots as a sleepy fishing village. The insulated/heated Big House is a 3 bedroom home.

Home Details
- Our property is two houses joined together. We call one house the Big House and one house the Summer Side.
- Private beach on Great Pond
- Mid Sept - April : Big House rental. Rentals are for the this insulated house only, sleeps 6. (VRBO rates are for Big House rental ONLY)
- May - mid Sept: Big House and Summer Side are rented together as one full property, sleeps 8-10. (VRBO rates are for Big House AND Summer Side rental)
- If you are interested in additional dates and rates for the full property rental please message the host
- While almost a single level dwelling, there are 2-6 stairs at entrances and between rooms


Big House: (fully insulated and heated for Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer rental)

- Bedroom 2: Queen bed (with pull-out trundle twin bed)
- Bedroom 3: two twin beds

- WIFI - due to secluded National Sea Shore Location, high speed internet is sometimes variable. (Guests have been successful with using cellphones to create a hotspot)

Great Pond Property - is two fully equipped houses joined as one, a blend of rustic and contemporary. The ‘Summer Side’ is the original cottage - full of Cape Cod charm and a huge screened-in porch. The ‘Big House’ was added in the 80’s. It is fully insulated / heated, has a window-lined living room and a gorgeous dining room that makes you feel you are eating outside. The 2 homes are connected by a hallway with a twin bedroom. Each home has private decks with views of the pond and a full kitchen. This lovely property is only one of three that are available to rent on Great Pond in the summer and the only one available to rent in the off season. Built by our family, this property has personal touches and a few Cape Cod quirks.


Summer (May - August): This wonderful “two vacation homes as one" is available to rent in its entirety for any week. It is a perfect vacation spot for a large family, two families or a multigenerational family gathering. For those who love to swim, this home is a paradise.

Summer rental include Big House AND Summer Side, sleeps a total of 8-10 people.

Summer Side House (May - mid Sept) :
- Sleeps 2-4 people
- Has a rustic cabin feeling, a cozy Cape Cod classic (exposed wood, open ceilings)
- Bedroom: King
- Double futon in Living Room
- Outside shower - to rinse off the sun and sand!
- Full kitchen
- 1 half bath (sink and toilet). The shower on the Summer Side is OUTSIDE.
- Window A/C unit - window unit in Queen bedroom only

The houses were great , perfect for our families . The summer house reminded us of summer camp . The views of the pond are splendid . The screened - in Dining / Lounge Room was our favorite spot . We love Wellfleet in the summer and this Great Pond house does not disappoint! This home is beautiful, spacious, and comfortable with a quick drive to quaint downtown Wellfleet and beaches. The pond is perfect for swimming. SUP, and canoeing. There is nothing like the peacefulness of having coffee on the porch in the morning looking out at the sparkling pond and the sound of the frogs at night under a sky full of stars.

The location can't be beat. The pond is amazing. The Big House is great, with everything you need. Summerside house needs some work. The bathroom is tiny. It would be nice to have an indoor shower. The oven needed to be cleaned and got very smoky when we first used it. I'm sure the owners are happy to take care of this as they seem very responsible. It would be better to have photos and more explanation of how small the bathroom is in Summerside. I still recommend staying here, especially in the Big House.

Wonderful Home

Our family of (5) plus a couple friends stayed at this spacious house and it was perfect. When we were looking at the house, I told my Wife I bet the pictures don't do it justice, I was right. The "pond" has more of a small lake feel and was perfect for all the kids. The house comes with it's own small marina and a floating dock off shore to dive and fish from. Highly suggest fishing, some big bass in there. Essentially you have two homes bridged together creating a ton of space. The entire back of the house has seating areas that have great views of the pond, plus a large deck off the master and living room. All that and you're still only a 5 min. ride to the ocean. 25 min. or so to P-town. I could go on and on. Hope to stay there again sometime.

We returned to this lovely home this summer and it is just as wonderful as we remembered it. Nothing better than peaceful mornings by the pond, paddleboarding and kayaking with the kids, and exploring the beautiful natural delights of Wellfleet. We hope to return yet again!

We loved staying in this lovely home right on Great Pond. The views from the home are beautiful and peaceful. We could have just sat on the deck all day watching the many moods of the pond. We had a fabulous time taking the kayaks and SUPs out, and what a treat to swim to your very own raft! A truly special place. We hope to return!

Can't wait to return!

We had such a wonderful time at Great Pond. It was the perfect spot for us, with my husband and me in the main house, and my daughter and her partner in the attached cottage. They loved the privacy of their own space and couldn't rave enough about the outdoor shower! The main house was far more luxurious than we'd expected, and even in mid-September, the gas fireplace was much appreciated! But for as lovely as the house was, we spent most of our time there relaxing on the comfortably furnished decks over-looking the pond. The listing tells you exactly what to expect when you visit so the only surprises are the extras we found there. The provided amenities for outdoor activities (beach chairs, beach toys, kayaks, paddle board, outdoor shower, etc) as well as a fully stocked kitchen, complete with plenty of plates and glasses as well as every cooking utensil you could want. But the best part was starting and ending the day sitting outside and looking out over the pond. We definitely hope to visit again in the future!

My brother and I grew up spending summers in this cottage when it was just one room and had no electricity or running water. We swam and sailed in the pond all day or played on the sandy beach or in the pine woods. It was a wonderful way to spend childhood summers.

Why they chose this property

My great grandfather was the Methodist Minister in Wellfleet. It has been a family gathering spot for 4 generations.

What makes this property unique

Because there are 2 houses connected by a hallway, there are lots of private areas as well as communal areas.The screened in porch is one of the unique features of the Summer Side. It extends across one entire side of the cottage. It overlooks the pond and is surrounded by pine trees. There is a picnic table for dining on, comfortable chairs for reading in. On warm nights it's a wonderful place for reading and visiting.
The Big House has the tv and the big living room to gather in the evenings.
