About the property

Farmhouse, 2 Bedrooms , 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Cruise into the Hill Country over the Devils Backbone on Ranch Road 32 out of San Marcos, Texas. Here you’ll find Fischer, Texas, and this updated 1950’s rock ranch house. An amazing vacation value, it’s a centrally-located launching pad perfect for enjoying all the Hill Country has to offer.

This house was originally a duplex built to house workers on this 2500 acre ranch. Now nestled on 30 acres, it offers privacy with a full kitchen, a living room, two bedrooms and two newly remodeled baths. You can sit outside beneath the oaks and watch the birds feeding at the feeders.

Just north is Wimberley, Texas. Wimberley offers many attractions from swimming holes, like Blue Hole, to Wimberley Market Days, shopping on the Square, the Corral Outdoor Movie Theatre, local vineyards, playhouses, etc. From Wimberley, the live music capital city of Austin is just 40 minutes north.

Drive 15 minutes south and be at Potters Creek Park on Canyon Lake where you have countless activities such as boating, sailing, fishing, swimming, or diving from the cliffs by the dam. Or check out the nearby Guadalupe River for tubing, rafting, kayaking, canoeing, or fly fishing. Hit Gruene for music, dining, shopping, or wine tasting, wrap up the evening at the Whitewater Amphitheater on the shores of the Guadalupe. Don’t forget New Braunfels, with its world famous 65 acre waterpark (Schlitterbahn). While you’re out that way, explore the caves at Natural Bridge Caverns or head to San Antonio and discover the Riverwalk and the many attractions Ole San Antone has to offer.

Travel west for 10 miles and you find yourself in Blanco, Texas. Here you will find Blanco State Park with the Blanco River running through it. Check out the Real Ale Brewery or shop and eat around the square. From here you can travel to Luckenbach and listen to some live music or browse Fredericksburg’s Trade Days. Don’t forget to sample the many wineries or the Wildflower Center off HWY 290.

Head back east and you are back in San Marcos where you can tube the San Marcos River or browse the 140 shops in their famous Outlet Mall.

Did you bring horses? Keep them next to your lodging in an enclosed acre with horse fencing and shelter. This area is away from any other livestock on the ranch. Ride the trails located on Canyon Lake or in Pedernales State Park.

Perfect for Mother/Daughter Retreat

  • 5 of 5

My daughter picked this place for her birthday get away weekend and it couldn't have been more perfect. We loved being off by ourselves surrounded by the garden, pasture, and forest. Having our own bedrooms and bathrooms was a treat and we enjoyed preparing meals in the wonderfully equipped kitchen and then eating outside in the morning sun or under the evening stars. Inside was a treasure trove of fascinating things with lots of art, crafts, books, games, music, movies and so much more. We really appreciate the owner trusting us with all of her collections. The location was great for our adventures to Wimberley, to Pedernales State Park for hiking, and along the wine trail for an afternoon of tasting. We have done many Mother/Daughter adventures and we agreed this place was our favorite so far.

GREAT STAY

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed staying at this location. Out in the country but close enough to the small towns to visit and the larger cities are not far from here if need be. On-site Owner makes the stay comfortable and welcoming. Loved it!

Beautiful 😀

We had a really wonderful time at this beautiful property and enjoyed nearly every aspect(delicate septic system 😟). The fresh baked banana bread was a cute touch!

Quaint, rustic Ranch House!

  • 4 of 5

Quaint old ranch house with a fully implemented kitchen. Satellite tv and many DVDs to watch. Internet was sketchy, but was able to compensate with the hotspot on my phone. Linda was nice and brought some delicious warm banana bread for breakfast. (It didn't make it till breakfast) location was great for the activities we chose to do. Tubing the Guadeloupe and walking the natural bridge caverns. We were on motorcycles, so highway 32 (referred to as "the Devil's backbone) was right outside the gate. We enjoyed the shady outdoor area every morning to drink our coffee and eat breakfast. Overall great experience. We recommend this property.

Owner's Response: Wonderful guests. They were very respectful with the property, gracious, and kind. I think my dog wanted to go home with them. Good thing they were on motorcycles! The house was left in perfect condition nothing out of place. I would recommend them as guests for any property and would love to have them back. The Internet was sketchy, I actually called my server that weekend to see if there was an issue.

Will not return

Beautiful! Not up to my or VRBO/Home Away standards. Scorpions might be native but... place needs a deep clean. All were bitten, not sure if by chiggers. Too bad, it really is a pretty duplex with gorgeous land and convenient location.

Owner's Response: I'm very sorry you were unhappy with your stay and did not feel it was up to your standards. I called today, after reading your review, to have someone come spray the yard for chiggers. I had not had anyone mention them to me, although no one else walked through the pastures. I hope your next adventure is more to your liking.

Quite and relaxing, away from it all.

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful inside and out. Everything you need. We did purchase a bigger coffee pot and left it at the house for other coffee drinkers. I fell in love with Duke and Toby. Two of the sweetest dogs you will ever see. My advise, if you have seasonal allergies or allergies to trees please make sure to pack allergy meds. We had to cut our vacation a day early due to my allergies. I would love to come back again. The apple pie was awesome. Thank you Linda.
