NEW POOL! AUTHENTIC MAYAN PALAPA

Sleeps6
Bedrooms 2

Property type villa
Minimum Stay 4 - 6 nights

Overview

About the property

Villa, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

A private home with stunning new pool in one of the most beautiful settings in Puerto Morelos. A stay in our two story Beach House offers “the best of all possible worlds”

Combining a 'traditional' Mayan Palapa with a modern Adobe home, great snorkeling and swimming with easy beach access. Large front sundeck and back terrace deck with heavenly outdoor shower and gorgeous completely private pool.

We are located in the town of Puerto Morelos, only twenty minutes south of Cancun and ten minutes from the main highway leading to historic Mayan sites, popular tourist attractions and modern shopping and dining.

The upstairs 'Palapa' has a twenty-foot high thatched peaked ceiling with varnished wood beams and tiled floors, a king size bed and hammocks, a private bathroom and two outdoor sundecks – one facing the ocean where you can sunbathe and enjoy the Caribbean breezes – fabulous sunsets over the jungle from the back terrace. You can watch the sun rise from your upstairs bed or luxuriate in an invigorating outdoor shower surrounded by palms and bamboo trees.

The town plaza of Puerto Morelos is only five minutes by car, taxi, an easy bike ride or a twenty-minute leisurely walk along the beach. Puerto Morelos, a small unassuming town with all the conveniences you could desire and no tourist congestion, boasts fine restaurants, a pizza parlor, cafés, a playground, church, beaches, a grocery store, a bookstore, a travel agency, and a dive shop (if you decide not to snorkel from the beach in front of the Palapa) and once a week an outdoor fresh produce market.

You can also sun and shop and play in Cancun or Playa del Carmen or tour the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, Coba and Tulum. The entire coast (the Mayan Riviera) is one long stretch of beautiful beaches, cabanas, and ecological environmental parks where you can horseback ride, swim in ceynotes and underground caves and visit the historical Mayan Ruins. Taxis are plentiful and reasonable for trips up and down the coast. There are also tour buses to various Mayan sites that can be booked in Puerto.

The biggest problem? You'll never want to leave!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hola, Buenes Dias Colleen,

Sadly, we are home now.

Nosotros gusto Mexico y Puerto Morales y La Palapa muy buen.

Muchios grachias para una casa bonita y jardin. (apprendo espanol-----Elaine, pero para ahora esta pequeno. Losciento!).

Your house is wonderful, 'fantastico'. Very comfortable and relaxing. Wonderful setting. We ate at David Lau's restaurant most evenings and met the lovely 'Valerie'. She fixed us up with snorkelling for the terrified, with 'Charlie Brown'. He was superb and we were amazed to find ourselves in the open seas, swimming with confidence!

We loved Tulum, Isla Mujeres, Uxmal and the art of Diego Rivera and Friedo Kahlo in Mexico City. Yes, Merida was 'mucho calor' and we did find Chichen Itza very touristy.

John adds:-,

Yes, we had a wonderful time. Mexican people are so friendly. Everywhere we went we were met with warmth & courtesy. I was pleasently surprised by Mexico City. I had grown up with an image of congestion & pollution from the 70's. It was actually a much more comfortable city to visit than London, with a fantastic Metro system, clean streets & a brilliant one way traffic system in the centre. Highlights for us were the Museo de Belles Artes, the whole Coyoacan area, tracking down Rivera murals & our trip out to Teotihuacan.

We would love to return next year and wondered if there is ever a cooler time of year? John will probably be retiring in the summer, so we will have more flexibility with our travel dates. There is still much we would like to see, eg Palanque & it would be great to end the trip with a another relaxing stay at La Palapa.

Kind Regards,

Elaine & John

Idyllic. Perfect getaway home. Comfortable, well equipped. We spent 10 days here and enjoyed every one of them. Nora and Colleen are great and extremely helpful.

Absolutely perfect!

  • 5 of 5

A very lovely home with all amenities in a quite and elegant area of quaint Puerto Morelos. Couldn't ask for anything more! The location is perfect to visit all the attractions of the Maya Riviera and at the same time far enough from the hordes of tourists of Cancun and Playa del Carmen, both only 25 minutes away. I highly recommend it and will certainly be back!

A Wonderful Stay!

  • 5 of 5

4 Adults & 2 Children - This is a beautiful property with all the amenities we were looking for right across the street from the beach. This house accommodated us easily - 6 people. The pool provided relief from the intense sun with a beautiful well-maintained yard creating a nice ambiance. What made the stay extra special was the amount of care and detail that the owners, Colleen & Nora, gave to us. We didn't meet Colleen but were in constant contact with her. Nora is a very special woman and we would go back just to say hi to her again! The attention she paid to our needs made us more than comfortable.

Relaxing

  • 4 of 5

My husband, 15 y/o son & I stayed for a week. We really enjoyed the quiet, private yard & great pool area. There is a large grocery store a few miles from the palapa & lots of little restaurants in town. It's an easy walk to the beach from the house & the showers have great water pressure. There is also a clothesline for suits & towels. Great hammocks upstairs too! Colleen was so easy to reach & answered any questions very quickly. We did rent a car to get around to sites & would recommend that. We were always glad to get back to "our" quiet little yard after a day out. Thanks Colleen & Nora!

FANTASTIC!!!

  • 5 of 5

Wow, what an amazing place!! Colleen, who was our main contact, was incredibly helpful before and during our stay. Colleen and Nora have done a lot of work on the place to make it comfortable and it shows, it's simply stunning. Five of us were staying at the Palapa and there was more than enough room for everyone to have privacy if they desired it. The beach was a short walk away and we walked along it each day to either go to town or hit one of the little beach bars. The town is pretty chill, lots of live music and great food. Cabs were very inexpensive and there was also the Collectivo bus if you didn't feel like walking or cabbing. We took the bus from town for groceries which was only a few stops and cabbed back to the Palapa. It was so lovely to have a place that from the moment we entered we felt so lucky to be there. None of us have a negative comment to make and we all want to go back..especially today because it's -22 in Halifax NS with the wind chill. Thanks Colleen and Nora for sharing your beautiful home with us!

A Little Slice Of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have stayed in PM several times over the years and this was our best stay yet. Colleen was very prompt in answering all my questions and was waiting on us when we arrived. Now about the house. Its all that and then some ! we just loved waking up to the sounds of nature, enjoying our morning coffee by the pool and then walking to town for breakfast . we only used the downstairs bedroom with AC 2 times during our stay because the ocean breezes kept the upstairs at a decent temp. If youve stayed in PM before you know water pressure can be suspect at times but I am happy to report this was not the case at La Palapa, LOTS of hot water and tons of water pressure made the outdoor shower a HUGE plus. I hate to keep going on about how wonderful this home is because it will make it tougher for us to find an opening next year, and Yes, we will be booking it again . In closing let me say this, there are cheaper places to stay in PM but I can promise you the little extra you spend will be so worth it, sitting by the pool with a cold drink after a day at the beach is just about priceless !!
