Bedrooms 2
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 5 - 6 nights

About the property

Villa, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

A private home with stunning new pool in one of the most beautiful settings in Puerto Morelos. A stay in our two story Beach House offers “the best of all possible worlds”

Combining a 'traditional' Mayan Palapa with a modern Adobe home, great snorkeling and swimming with easy beach access. Large front sundeck and back terrace deck with heavenly outdoor shower and gorgeous completely private pool.

Only one downstairs bedroom air conditioned with private bath.

Upstairs in la palapa there are fans and sea breezes.

We are located in the town of Puerto Morelos, only twenty minutes south of Cancun and ten minutes from the main highway leading to historic Mayan sites, popular tourist attractions and modern shopping and dining.

The upstairs 'Palapa' has a twenty-foot high thatched peaked ceiling with varnished wood beams and tiled floors, a king size bed and hammocks, a private bathroom and two outdoor sundecks – one facing the ocean where you can sunbathe and enjoy the Caribbean breezes – fabulous sunsets over the jungle from the back terrace. You can watch the sun rise from your upstairs bed or luxuriate in an invigorating outdoor shower surrounded by palms and bamboo trees.

The town plaza of Puerto Morelos is only five minutes by car, taxi, an easy bike ride or a twenty-minute leisurely walk along the beach. Puerto Morelos, a small unassuming town with all the conveniences you could desire and no tourist congestion, boasts fine restaurants, a pizza parlor, cafés, a playground, church, beaches, a grocery store, a bookstore, a travel agency, and a dive shop (if you decide not to snorkel from the beach in front of the Palapa) and once a week an outdoor fresh produce market.

You can also sun and shop and play in Cancun or Playa del Carmen or tour the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, Coba and Tulum. The entire coast (the Mayan Riviera) is one long stretch of beautiful beaches, cabanas, and ecological environmental parks where you can horseback ride, swim in ceynotes and underground caves and visit the historical Mayan Ruins. Taxis are plentiful and reasonable for trips up and down the coast. There are also tour buses to various Mayan sites that can be booked in Puerto.

The biggest problem? You'll never want to leave!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hola, Buenes Dias Colleen,

Sadly, we are home now.

Nosotros gusto Mexico y Puerto Morales y La Palapa muy buen.

Muchios grachias para una casa bonita y jardin. (apprendo espanol-----Elaine, pero para ahora esta pequeno. Losciento!).

Your house is wonderful, 'fantastico'. Very comfortable and relaxing. Wonderful setting. We ate at David Lau's restaurant most evenings and met the lovely 'Valerie'. She fixed us up with snorkelling for the terrified, with 'Charlie Brown'. He was superb and we were amazed to find ourselves in the open seas, swimming with confidence!

We loved Tulum, Isla Mujeres, Uxmal and the art of Diego Rivera and Friedo Kahlo in Mexico City. Yes, Merida was 'mucho calor' and we did find Chichen Itza very touristy.

John adds:-,

Yes, we had a wonderful time. Mexican people are so friendly. Everywhere we went we were met with warmth & courtesy. I was pleasently surprised by Mexico City. I had grown up with an image of congestion & pollution from the 70's. It was actually a much more comfortable city to visit than London, with a fantastic Metro system, clean streets & a brilliant one way traffic system in the centre. Highlights for us were the Museo de Belles Artes, the whole Coyoacan area, tracking down Rivera murals & our trip out to Teotihuacan.

We would love to return next year and wondered if there is ever a cooler time of year? John will probably be retiring in the summer, so we will have more flexibility with our travel dates. There is still much we would like to see, eg Palanque & it would be great to end the trip with a another relaxing stay at La Palapa.

Kind Regards,

Elaine & John

Beautiful oasis!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent 10 magical days at the Palapa residence in Puerto Morelos. Colleen and Nora were fantastic hosts- there to greet us upon arrival, and available throughout our stay with any questions we may have had.

The house is set up with attention to most details you would desire. The kitchen has all the tools one would need if wanting to remain home based (although we ate out mostly- no desire to cook!!). The layout is ideal for two couples- including two private separate bathrooms and an extremely spacious master bedroom where we woke up to the spectacular vision of the palapa overhead.

It is an easy travel to the town centre to gather any supplies or to eat out.

The best part was the intimate privacy and tranquility. The pool is spectacular, and no worries of any neighbours intruding on the peaceful surroundings as there is a lovely backdrop of a jungle like back yard.

We love this home and will definitely do our best to return.

Thank you Colleen and Nora!

Third Blissful One Month Stay

  • 5 of 5

Our third one month stay at La Palapa and each stay better than the last.

Colleen and Nora have created a paradise that has us coming back again and again and every visit brings new changes in the Palapa with new beds, new kitchen cupboards, new cooking range just to name a few. Always Spotless and fresh from Carmen’s weekly care.

Outside; well Nora’s grilling station is fabulous; the pool so sparkling clean and inviting thanks to Carlos’s attention.

Nora and Colleen are always ready to answer questions or take immediate care when something comes up. They have become like family to us.

It is a lovely walk on the beach to town for Spanish lessons, coffee or a bit of shopping or an evening of Flamenco Dance or music. Then back to La Palapa, our oasis.

We look forward to next winter’s stay.

Muchas graçias Nora y Colleen for creating such a beautiful welcoming home

Wonderful house - fantastic owners!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful welcoming home is meticulously clean and lovingly maintained by the owners. My two adult children and I spent the Christmas week. We loved it. The quiet street and comfortable beds were much appreciated. The ocean beach is just a short 5 minute walk from the house. We enjoyed many meals on the outdoor patio. If you choose to eat out, its just a 30 minute beach stroll to town where there are many restaurant choices. Taxi home for just $50 MXN or take your time and walk the road back. Thank you Colleen and Nora!

Wonderful Property!

  • 5 of 5

We just loved this comfortable and well equipped home with easy access to the beach, plus a refreshing pool that we really enjoyed on hot, lazy afternoons. Perfect owners are great communicators, always available and never under foot. Puerto Morelos is a very manageable size with all the amenities, super friendly locals, and less of the hub bub of bigger centres. Over all a perfect vacation spot that we highly recommend!

Third time and still love it

  • 5 of 5

Well another wonderful stay at La Palapa. This was our third time and we enjoyed it like our first time.

Weather was great the entire time, more than we could ask for as we did go late October.

Upon arrival, Carmen was working hard getting the house in perfect shape for our stay. We unpacked, relaxed and then headed to the Chedraui for groceries.

This is a $70 pesos ride from the Pearl Desire which is a short walk from La Palapa and there is always a taxi there. If you don't feel like walking to the Pearl Desire you can go to your left when leaving the house and two houses down there is a condo complex where you will see a single taxi. This is Phillipe's taxi and he too will drive you to town. Just knock on the door and see if he's home. One piece of advise to new comers. Taxi costs, we had many prices quoted to us, it was crazy. Once at the Chedraui one taxi tried to ask for $160 pesos from there to home. We have always paid $70 so we took the groceries out of the trunk of the car and before you know it, they are agreeing to $70. Also at the taxi stand in town square we had them try and charge up to $100 pesos to get home when it had always been $50. We just said no thanks and if they didn't adjust the price we would go to the end of the street where the church is and across from there is where all the taxis wait to be called up to the line at the taxi stand. The best thing to do is quote the price you will pay and not ask them "how much to .....". So to be clear, $50 from the house to town square or back. $70 to the Chedraui or back.

Once settled we noticed how much freshening was done to the house. New grout for the floor tiles, new light sconces, fresh paint and staining to the house, inside and out and newly painted patio area outside in the backyard. Not to mention the two styles of new loungers.

The pool was sparkling and we used it each and every day. Was wonderful to come home from walks on the beach and just jump in to cool down.

After three trips we finally met Nora. We had met Colleen on our previous trips but never had the pleasure to meet Nora so they made a special stop by for us to meet. These two ladies are wonderful gals All you have to do is ask and they are quick to respond to any wants or concerns you might have.

Thanks ladies for another fabulous stay. Take care and we will see you again next year.
