About Lynda Martinez

One never knows where life will lead them!

After living in Southern California for most of my life, I could never have dreamed that my journey would lead me to a beautiful inn tucked away in the mountains of Colorado.

I have always loved entertaining, so innkeeping seemed like a great new career.

Not only is cooking a passion, like my grandma, I just love to feed people! Using local and organic products as much as possible, I like to prepare food that is healthy, delicious and delightful to look at.

In my spare time I can be found tending my flower and vegetable gardens. My little dogs Maggie, Buddy and Roxy are always close by. We try to get a walk or hike in daily. Late afternoons you will usually find us down by the stream. When I call "happy hour!" they know exactly where to go!

Lynda Martinez purchased this house in 2006

Why Lynda Martinez chose South Central

I have many fond memories as a young girl taking family vacations in the mountains. The sound of the trees swaying in the wind and the smell of the pines created such a sense of appreciation for all that nature has to offer. One can't help but take a deep breath and relax just a bit. Plus, the opportunity to observe so much wildlife on a daily basis was irresistible. I have encountered numerous deer peacefully grazing in the yard just a few feet from me. Twice a bobcat has been spotted on the property and of course it is always a great day if you get to see a bear!

What makes this house unique

After looking at all different kinds of bed and breakfast properties, this property definitely spoke to me. I love looking up and being surrounded by mountains covered by beautiful pines, spruces and aspens. No matter what season or what the weather, I never tire of the views.

Having Fountain Creek run through the property was definitely a bonus. My thoughts immediately turned to visions of my grandchildren splashing around, skipping rocks and floating boats down the stream. I love sitting quietly by the water, observing a fox stopping to take a drink or the robins taking a nice cold bath.

Lovely Unique Property

  • 5 of 5

Such a charming and unique idea for a vacation home. It was very easy to find and a great location for hiking and visiting Colorado Springs and all the surrounding area. The caboose was just lovely, comfortable, classy and cozy! The breakfasts that Linda brought over each day were just delicious - her peach French Toast was amazing. The hot-tub was great after a long day hiking, and the winery located a few minutes walk away was a great place to have dinner.

All Aboard! Great lodging - and perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

In keeping with a train theme for our vacation, I happened upon the Blue Spruce Caboose. It was a perfect choice!

Lynda has spared no detail in transforming an old caboose into a delightful little vacation cottage, perfect for a relaxing romantic get away. The sitting room is comfy and contains all of the necessities should you decide to eat in: dining utensils, bowls, plates, wine glasses and corkscrew (of course!). The little fridge even includes a freezer.

The bedroom is so comfy - and has an antique claw-foot soaking tub. The furnishings and décor are exquisite. I only wish we had stayed longer in order to take advantage of the soaking tub and hot tub which is located on the lanai.

As others have recommended, definitely order breakfast from Lynda at least one morning. I didn't even have room for lunch after the scrumptious breakfast that was delivered right on time.

One note: the upper windows do not have shades, so you will awaken as the sun lights the sky. It's not too bright as the entire caboose is shaded by - what else - a big blue spruce.

The property is conveniently located just 30 minutes from Colorado Springs, about 10 minutes from historic Manitou Springs along with Garden of the Gods and on the same street (less than 5 minutes away) a the entrance to Pike's Peak. You can't go wrong with the Blue Spruce Caboose!

Amazing Anniversary Trip

  • 5 of 5

We booked reservations and stayed at the Blue Spruce Caboose for our 48th Anniversary and our accommodations were absolutely amazing! The caboose is furnished beautifully and it is apparent that a lot of thought went into this project. We requested the special breakfast that is available and were certainly not disappointed! Maybe it was the beautiful setting with the mountains, beautiful flowers, etc but it was the most delicious breakfast we have ever had in our 48 years together! As much as we loved everything about this trip we were most impressed with Lynda Martinez, she is absolutely the best hostess/innkeeper possible, so attentive to our every need or want. She is a real treasure! We will certainly return to the Blue Spruce Caboose again in the near future!
