We Had to Leave Rental Early - Owner Misrepresented Construction Noise
Upon arrival we discovered extensive construction on the connected townhome which shared a roof and walls. From 8 to 6 daily, we endured loud hammering and sawing, making it impossible to enjoy the home.
Prior to booking, we asked the homeowner - is there construction planned for the home, or near the home, during our stay? She replied: we don’t have construction planned on the unit, but there has been construction in the neighborhood. We have had no noise complaints.
We immediately wrote the owner and asked her why we were not informed of construction on the connected unit. Her reply: As I mentioned before, there is work happening in the community. We had multiple guests and none raised concerns. In fact, each of them left a five-star review. Rather than accept accountability, the owner repeatedly deflected blame to us. She eventually admitted the construction was out of her control.
After reviewing video, VRBO agreed there was a material misrepresentation, refunded our VRBO fee, and directed us to the owner for a refund. The owner offered a partial refund. When we said we expected a full refund, the owner declared she was offended. She became unresponsive. We were forced to leave half-way through our stay due to noise and an unresponsive owner.
It has been three weeks, and we have received no response or refund. That offer also turned out to be false. We cannot recommend this property due to lack of transparency and the poor handling of our valid concerns.
