About this property
Sweet Valley Hi: Sunlit Retro Retreat
Unwind at this sunny, warm, and spacious four-season home on 11 private acres in the Catskill foothills. Great flow for entertaining, renovated first-floor kitchen and bath, and plenty of retro-antique personality. Amenities include high thread-count sheets, a wood-burning stove, and ample outdoor areas. The quiet road overlooks conservancy lands. A 15-minute walk to quaint Rensselaerville, 5-minute drive to hiking trails, waterfalls, and lake swimming, and 30 minutes to Windham Mountain skiing and boarding.
*The space* Seamless indoor and outdoor spaces for group gatherings and family fun.
The kids can watch movies or play board games in the den while you prepare meals and fix drinks in the open kitchen and dining areas. Dine, grill, or lounge on the pretty outdoor patio with plantings.
Build a crackling fire in the wood-burning stove in the living room, or toast s'mores from Adirondack chairs around the fire pit on the large lawn. Play badminton or roam peacefully on the property. Take a run or walk on our lazy country road in any season; stroll through the charming historic main street of Rensselaerville. When it’s raining, the indoor dining table can convert to play ping pong!
First-floor bedroom with a comfortable queen-sized bed and a full bath. Two more cozy bedrooms and a half bath are upstairs. There's a Heywood Wakefield dresser in each room for your use.
There is also a private office space. This space has a futon couch/bed that can be optionally used upon request.
Kitchen is complete with dishes (including for kids), utensils, microwave, coffee maker and coffee (and tea); toaster, blender, slow cooker, waffle iron and more; oils, vinegars, herbs, and spices; basic condiments; and baking items (e.g. flour, sugar.)
Well water is filtered and delicious.
*Guest access* Self check-in; the entire house, lawn, and outdoor patio are yours. The outbuildings, pond, attic, and basement are not accessible to guests.
*Other things to note* We have a monitor for DVDs and have plenty of movie choices for kids and adults. Please note we have no streaming services readily available. The TV has an HDMI cable if you would like to stream from your computer. *Please bring your own adapter* to connect the HDMI port to your laptop or other device.
Not all cell phones have service in our area. Verizon and T-Mobile work fairly well. AT&T has poor service. Once you've arrived, you may have to rely on the wi-fi.
The house has a wi-fi system that is accessible throughout. It is sufficient to use for basic work, music, and entertainment functionality. However, heavy internet use (e.g. multiple users streaming or downloading at once) is limited.
The house is naturally breezy in the summer due to our mountainous location. During the summer months, A/C is available as window units upstairs, plus portable fans.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

Everything was great. Loved the house. So comfortable, and spacious with really nice cool fun decore. The outdoor patio area is beautiful overlooking the grouinds. What is a special place. We hope to visit again sometime soon!
The retreat was very clean and open floor plan which worked great for our family and the privacy of a large lot with the bee farm (amazing honey) and natural landscaping just added to a very relaxing experience
Laura's home is comfortable and very well appointed. Sadly, we visited for a funeral in a nearby town, but we felt right at home in this quiet, cozy spot. Laura communicated promptly, and the check-in and -out went very smoothly. For a beautiful out-of the-way vacation, we would encourage a stay at this home. We only wish we had more time to investigate the natural beauty of the area or prepare a few more meals in the stocked kitchen.

Thank you so much Stephen! You and your party were exemplary guests. We appreciate your good communication and care of the home.
Nestled about 30 minutes from Albany, this gem is a great getaway for those looking to be out in the mountains, yet close to other urban options. A great launching pad for hikes in Catskills or the local nature preserves, just minutes away. The house is charming, clean and very comfortable. The hosts even left us some home made honey from their own bees and were super responsive when we had questions--though it was a simple process and highly recommended.
Quite time except for the natural sounds of the environment.
The retro fitted house was as nostalgic as can be. It is great place that has everything you need as if you were in your own home. This is truly a naturalistic experience just on the property and you add in the conservation area surrounding here just terrific. Birds in the morning and bullfrogs in the evening. Thank you for sharing your lovely home.
