Hughes Retreat Unit #204 in Kill Devil Hills, built in 2005, is across the street from the beach. Easy public beach access is a short distance south of Hughes Retreat at Eighth Street. It is handicapped accessible with parking and a nice ramp over to the beach. Rent anything you need (including a beach wheelchair) nearby. Our condo is tastefully decorated for maximum comfort. Our balcony overlooks the pool so you can relax and still keep an eye on the mischief taking place in the pool. A fully equipped kitchen and a great grocery nearby will make meal preparation a snap. Don't want to cook? THE best restaurant on the beach is at the end of the driveway. The master bedroom has a king size bed and a private full bath. A second bedroom has a queen size bed and the third bedroom has a pyramid bunk (aka Kids at the Beach) A pyramid bunk has double bed on the bottom with a single above and a single trundle underneath. A second full bath is across from these two bedrooms. AND there's a queen size sleep sofa in the living room for anyone who wants to stay up all night. The bunk room has TV with attached DVD/VCR player (The owner left a VCR tape with 6 hours of vintage cartoons!) The other bedrooms have Cable TV and there's a third Cable TV with DVD player in the living area. Bedroom TVs are wall mounted. After all that 'hard' walking on the beach, an elevator will take you upstairs easily. Our awesome pool is lap worthy and also great for water walking. There is assigned covered parking with space for two cars and an additional assigned space across from the front of the building.

But, PLEASE, don't spend your vacation inside the condo! The owners will provide you with information for more activities than you'll have time for, so plan to come back again and again.

About Sara Singer

Hughes Retreat was finished in the spring of 2005 and Jim and Sara Singer are the original owners of Jay's NestEgg. Jim is a physical oceanographer (which is why this condo isn't oceanfront). He plans oceanographic research cruises and spends most of his time floating on some distant ocean, sea or gulf. Sara worked as a monitor for clinical trials but now takes care of 4 households, including this condo. She loves to spend time walking on the beach to collect shells that she uses in wreaths and inspiration for stained glass creations.

Why Sara Singer chose Kill Devil Hills

As a young couple in graduate school, we spent a LOT of time on the Outer Banks. Jim's graduate research was a study of Oregon Inlet. His thesis predicted that one day the bridge would be mostly over land. Guess what, today it is mostly over land.

During our graduate school years, we spent a lot of time here in tents, trailers, less than nice motel rooms and some rentals that can't be described. We wanted a place back on the Outer Banks that was easy to get to, easy to live in and always welcoming us back.

We have walked beaches all over the world and our favorite beaches of all are right here. Coquina Beach across from the Bodie Island Lighthouse and the beach just south of Oregon Inlet on Pea Island are fabulous. We'll share them with you, but don't tell too many people cause we like them to stay uncrowded.

What makes this condo unique

Sara loves to begin the day watching the sun rise over the ocean with a great cup of coffee. Later, we enjoy climbing Jockey's Ridge to watch the sunset over the sound. In between we like to just walk the beach. From the beach directly in front of the condo, look south. It's 2 miles to the Nags Head Fishing Pier. Try and walk it at least once during your stay. Do it at low tide and collect a few shells along the way.

I will probably never stay any other place than Jay's Nestegg as

long as Sara comes with it. She is great and so is the condo. I recommend

it to everyone. I will definitely be back.

I rented this condo for my daughter's wedding weekend. My sister and her husband flew in from FL to attend. We were all very impressed with the place.

The condo was beautiful!! Very clean and spacious. There was plenty of room for the people we had staying there. There was plenty of room for a party of 10 if needed Sara was wonderful. She was there to meet all our needs and checked on us during the stay to ensure we wanted for nothing.

We will definitely rent this condo again soon!! Thank you so much Sara for all you did for my family during this glorious weekend!!

Great condo and location

This is our eighth stay at this condo. Sara is so great to work with and has thought of everything. The unit is very clean and comfortable. The kitchen has most anything one would need to cook a meal or do some baking. Two grocery stores are very close. (One is right across Rt. 158.) If dining out is preferred, many of the best restaurants are nearby. We have stayed in Duck, and this location is so much more convenient to everything. We will be returning again next year and looking forward to it already!

Jay's is a great place to have a family vacation. Well maintained inside and out. The pool had a great mixture of sun and shade. They had everything for the beach in the storage from beach wagon, chairs and sand toys.

Linens and cleaning are not included in rental fee, but may be acquired locally - owner will assist in cleaning arrangements as requested. Weekly rentals only from Memorial to Labor Day.
