About the property

Condo, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Our Vacation Condo is a few minutes from town, shopping, and the beach. It is a spacious 900 square foot unit which has a large complete kitchen, balcony with a barbecue, queen sized bed, queen sized sofa bed, dining area, and two TV's. You will have use of the Jacuzzi which holds 10 people and the large pool. Our unit is located above the garden area and the Condos are nicely landscaped and maintained. We are located next to the Wrigley Road and adjacent to the Golf Course and Civic Center.

What's Close

Near our unit is the Golf Course and a popular restaurant called the Sand Trap. This local eatery is famous for its Fish Tacos, beer, and breakfast specials. You can hike up Wrigley Road for a view of the mansion and the entire bay. Wrigley road is less than 100 feet away from our Condo and makes for a great hike with spectacular views as you peer over the cliff and view the bay, ocean and town of Avalon.

At the Condo

While at the Condo you can treat yourself to a swim, relax in the jacuzzi, barbecue on the balcony, and watch cable tv in the bedroom or in the living room. If you choose, you can make a gourmet meal in the kitchen which has all the appliances, dishware and utensils. If you like dining outside, you are in luck since on the balcony is an outside dining table and chairs.

What to do on the Island

Catalina offers golf, fishing, diving, snorkeling, and most water sports. You can go on the famous glass bottom boats, in a submarine, or para-sail high over the ocean. There is bike riding, hiking, tours on land and on boats. The island also offers night life with many great restaurants night clubs and dancing. The famous Casino offers tours a museum and a Cafe on the water. Catalina has something for everyone!

Inexpensive, but could use some TLC

My husband and I stayed at the condo while attending a family wedding on the island. We were able to check in early, which was nice. When we arrived we learned that the golf cart that is included in the rental was out of service. The realtor rented us one for our stay. It was a true Rent-A-Wreck golf cart. It was filthy (he didn't clean out the trash that previous users left in the cart) and was extremely loud. We could have been cited for breaking the noise ordinance! While it got us around, it wasn't suitable to tour the island like we wanted.

The actual condo was fine, nothing fancy or new here. Everything was just okay. I agree with previous reviewers -- a little bit of work would go a long way here. We were only in the unit to sleep and shower, so the decor didn't bother us. However, it would have been nice for a few things to be just a little better. The tiny, threadbare towels are cheap. A full bar of soap would go a long way. I understand that getting things to/from the island isn't easy, but just upping your standard for the basics would make this place great.

Owner's Response: We are sorry our golf cart is out of service but it is being repaired. We supplied a cart as our title states and should not be held responsible for the condition of the loaner which we have no control over. The towels in our unit are supplied by a service which changes all the linens so I will ask them to make sure the towels are in good shape. The cleaning service also supplies the soap which is the same bars that they supply to the hotels. In 15 years of service we have never had anyone comment about the soap or towels so we will take that into consideration.

Good Value, Limited Amenities

We just recently rented this condo in Avalon for our short vacation. The condo was a great value, especially since it included a Golf Cart, allowed for early check-in and late check-out, however, It is very outdated – straight out of the 70’s. The extra blankets provided had holes all through them, the pillows were flat, the pull out couch was extremely uncomfortable (old and well used), the mattress on the bed needs to be replaced, and there were no beach towels provided. The condo association pool was out of commission for 1 ½ days while we were there, it was extremely cold, and the spa was not heated at all.

When vacating the condo, we left it in good condition – put everything back in its place, stripped the beds/linens and placed them in a big pile, took all of the trash out, washed our dishes and put them away, cleaned out the refrigerator, parked the golf cart at the Blue Dolphin and walked back to the Pier to catch the Catalina Flyer.

Just $1,000 in upgrades would do this condo justice and would make me want to rent this condo again for another trip. Please consider basic upgrades!

Owner's Response: Our Condo is right out of the 80"s. When we bought it 15 years ago, it looked very familiar. On closer inspection, we found that we had stayed in our unit in 1984 while on vacation when it was new. We have stayed with the 80's theme since it brings back great memories. Everything in our place, as you can see from the pictures, is in great condition, restored and working fine. It goes along with the entire theme of the island, keeping things great and just as they once were. We have a terrific cleaning service which cleans our place after each party leaves, so there is no need to strip the beds, clean the refrigerator, etc. We have a great dishwasher and a two year old Jennifer's Convertible Sofa Sleeper if you have a party of four. The cleaning ladies will take care of any worn linen items and remove them from circulation since blankets, comforters and sheets are cleaned and rotated throughout several units. They have also exchanged the pillows and addressed the mattress. The pool and jacuzzi are heated on the weekends and not weekdays during Winter months. In May they are heated daily throughout the summer months. Water, power, and landfill space are an extremely valuable commodities on the island and must be conserved. Our toilets and some outdoor faucets operate on saltwater to conserve fresh water. We could spend lots of money on barging over new appliances and new furniture, but we have opted to supply our vacationers with the luxury of driving around our street licensed golf cart and free gas. This allows people to visit, stay in an nice spacious home, and have transporation to see island sights at a most reasonable price. The majority of our people who stay with us are more than happy with our "retro" decor and transportation provided since golf carts rent by the hour at a premium price. As you can see from our calendar, we are extremely busy and thrive on returning vacationers.

Awesome Immenities.

My 79 year old dad, sister and I went to the condo. Having the cart made all the difference in the world! It was so helpful with my dad, who sometimes uses a wheelchair. Brian the owner, had restaurant and entertainment suggestions. And.. answered every question including, where to leave the luggage.
