Beautiful Oceanfront Log Home near Acadia National Park- Hike, Fish, and Kayak

Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, 1 half bathroom, sleeps 9 or 10

A great spot to just relax and enjoy the view. Our renters agree that the photographs don't do it justice. A large great room has floor to ceiling windows overlooking the bay, and has a stone fireplace so you can watch the sunset or sit by the fire. The kitchen is very well appointed and includes just about everything the chef desires except the food. There is a full laundry room with a washer and a dryer. No need to waste hours at the laundromat. The rec room includes a ping pong table, games, video tapes, and satellite TV as well as a cozy stone fireplace and a seating area to relax and enjoy the fire or the spectacular view of Frenchman Bay. The children's bedroom is furnished with a full/twin bunk bed, a toddler bed, and a Pack n Play. In addition there are two beautifully furnished bedrooms with queen-size beds. There is a queen size sofa bed in the great room, another in the rec room, and two comfortable inflatable beds which each sleep two adults.

The home is located about 35 minutes from Bar Harbor, the hub of activities on Mount Desert Island and gateway to Acadia National Park. Bar Harbor offers dozens of restaurants and shops and also kayak and bike rentals.

Hikers who prefer less crowded trails will find that nearby Black Mountain and Schoodic Mountain offer gorgeous panoramic vistas of lakes, ponds, Frenchman Bay, and the Porcupine Islands without the large numbers of hikers found on the better known trails of Acadia.

Winter Harbor, just 5 minutes away, offers galleries, shops and dining, all located in a quaint lobstering village with a picturesque town harbor and dock. A passenger ferry runs numerous trips daily from Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor. Lobster pounds abound, and two are located within a couple of miles of the house. Swim and fish at nearby Jones Pond or Donnell Pond at the foot of Schoodic Mountain. Kayaks can be rented in nearby Birch Harbor and kayak tours can also be arranged.

The entrance to the Schoodic Section of Acadia National Park is a few minutes from the house by car or bike, and is a beautiful 'secret' spot which is visited by only a few of the thousands of visitors to Acadia.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I want to tell you how much we enjoyed our short week in your Maine home. The location was stunning, both in the sun and rain. As most attractions in the area were closed we took advantage of that great stone fireplace and the comfy couch to lounge in. I haven't enjoyed doing nothing so much for a long time. I even got a couple of good books read. The people of Winter Harbor were great and very welcoming.

We look forward to renting from you again. I haven't found a more relaxing place anywhere. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.

Beautiful and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

This property is gorgeous and has everything we needed to make our family vacation a fun, relaxing and memorable one. We enjoyed spending time on the shoreline along the back of the property, hiking the numerous trails at nearby Schoodic Peninsula and the beautiful drive into Bar Harbor. We found something different to do every day and our 3 boys (ages 14, 11 & 6) did not want to leave after 2 weeks! The house is equipped with everything that we needed for our stay, including a lobster pot which we put to good use steaming lobster for the first time. The ping pong table in the basement was awesome entertainment for the boys. There is ample space for guests to sleep and to just hang out. Rich Krasner was very welcoming and easy to communicate with about any questions we had. Definitely a great find!!

Excellent property

Wonderful back porch with a view of the bay, we spent most of our time there while in the house. Winter Harbor and surroundings were lovely, a great low key vacation.

Perfect place to recharge

  • 5 of 5

Our overall experience was fabulous. Great communication with the owner about anything that came up and the house and surroundings were spectacular. It's hard to be quiet in the house so bring sound machines or download an app if you plan to stay up late or get up early. Both families fell in love with the house and the cute town and we agreed that it was a perfect distance from all the trails and towns while giving the sense you were in the middle of nowhere. If you want a a taste of solitude with a side of comfort, this is your place.

Beautiful home in the perfect setting

  • 5 of 5

Our family and friends enjoyed a wonderful week at this property. Very nice, large clean home that accommodated our sizeable group of adults and children (ages 3-7). We enjoyed days out hiking in Acadia on both the Winter Harbor and Bar Harbor side. Great restaurants close by for brunch, lunch and dinner, as well as delicious ice cream. Grocery store and local market for fresh lobster also available. Scenery was perfect on both foggy and blue sky days. We definitely recommend this location, property and home owner access for your next vacation.

Absolutely breathtaking views!!

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful vacation here. The home is very cozy loved the natural fireplace for our chilly mornings and nights. The views are absolutely breathtaking!! We enjoyed just sitting on the boulders watching the lobster boats go by. We also rented kayaks and kayaked when the tides were in during the morning and the water was calm.

Rich was a pleasure and helpful with plenty of information of local things to see and do.

Maine is absolutely beautiful!! Will definitely be back to see more!
