This is a 4 bedroom three bath house. It has a two car heated garage, a 1200 square foot deck on the back with a brand new hot tub and patio set for eating out and enjoying the fantastic views. The house has a glass wall going from the living room to the deck that opens up onto the deck. The house has a 60' flat screen in the living room and a 30' in the master bedroom. The master has a king size log bed, the spare bedroom has a queen size log bed with its own bath. The other two bedrooms share a newly remodeled bathroom. Three of the bedrooms have queen size beds. The master bedroom has a king size bed. We are just minutes from the Rocky Mountain National Park. You constantly see animals such as coyotes, an occasional Bobcat, Deer everyday, Elk and an occasional Bear walking through the yard. We are only a 10 minute walk from downtown. This has to be one of the quietest locations in town. We are located on 4 acres and is also a 10 minute walk from the Stanley Hotel.

About Don Hess
We were currently living in the house and have since moved to Colorado Springs, CO. I grew up on a farm in South Dakota and my wife is from northern England.
Don Hess purchased this House in 2012
Why Don Hess chose Stanley Hills
We chose this property because it is so quiet. The last thing you want when you are on a vacation is noise where you are staying. It is secluded which makes it very nice. The other reason why we purchased the property is because of the views. And you cannot beat the walk to downtown. It takes about 10 minutes.
What makes this House unique
It is so peaceful sitting in the hot tub at night watching the stars. It is like you can reach out and grab the stars. There are no street lights which makes it even nicer. And for ambiance the hot tub has music and led lighting.

Stayed here for a week in August 2018. Great home located just minutes from downtown and even closer to the Safeway grocery store and Stanley Hotel. Surprisingly quiet for the location. On our first full day we saw about 30 elk in the neighbors yards. We’ve rented a few places in Estes Park and this was our favorite. The view from the back deck and especially the hot tub are beautiful! The kitchen has been nicely updated. Another reviewer mentioned an awful smell and was posted shortly before our trip which did have me a little worried. There was no smell at all so I don’t know what they were talking about. The hot tub was clean and very relaxing. You can see the Estes Park Ariel Tramway from the back deck, its the little red dot in the background! Lots of great hiking trails all around Estes Park and especially in Rocky Mountain National park which is about a 15 minute drive from the house. I wish it had a DVD/Blu-Ray player but that’s minor. We had a few issues but the owner was very responsive. The mountains that you view from the front of the house are beautiful as well. We went and did the hike up to Gem Lake, highly recommend this. A lady we talked to near the top said her FitBit said it was the equivalent of climbing 92 flights of stairs. It was a workout but you get amazing views of the city and the surrounding mountains. Would definitely stay at this house again.
We really enjoyed out stay in this lovely house. The views were amazing from the back deck and we saw abundant wildlife in the yard. The location is close to town and easy to access anything we wanted to do, including Rocky Mountain Park. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely seek out this property again if or when we return to Estes Park.
Exactly As described
We visited the end of June 2018. Communication with owner was quick and easy. The house has laundry facilities, nice hot tub, excellent view of mountains and great location to get around the town. It was unseasonably hot in Estes Park the week we were there, so We bought fans for the house in which the owner graciously reimbursed us for. We enjoyed our stay. Would definitely rent again.
Our family spent Memorial week at this rental and it is by far the best experience we have had. We had questions for the owner before we booked this location after reading reviews. We noticed there were a lot of really good reviews and two that were not so good. We assumed that with this many good ones that it didn't seem right to have two that were as bad as they were. The house was just as the pictures showed in an area that makes you feel as though you are a long ways away from town as it is so quiet and peaceful and yet only a quarter of a mile from downtown.
Estes Park is not short on wildlife as we had three herds of elk come walking through the yard along with a mother bear and its cub, one moose and one bobcat which was amazing as we have never seen one before. The cabin really gives you a warm cozy feeling. The view from the deck and hot tub are amazing. The house is fully equipped and has more than a family really needs. The kitchen is beautiful opening to the living room with mountain views while cooking for your family. The bedrooms are spacious and have very comfortable beds. The owners responded quickly to a few questions we had during our stay.
If we are ever lucky enough to return to this area we would not hesitate for one minute to re- book this house.
We have been vacationing in Estes Park for seven years now and have rented a private home every year. Although the view from the deck was very BEAUTIFUL, the rest of the home left us very disappointed.
The house as a whole needed much updating. The kitchen was advertised as a gourmet kitchen fully stocked. It looked very nice but was stocked with very inexpensive kitchen ware all around. The skillets and pots were in such bad shape that we couldn't use them due to the teflon peeling and being very bent. We had to use one pot for everything we cooked, and didn't feel very comfortable using it, but didn't feel we should have to purchase our own cookware, so we ate out more than we wanted. The exhaust fan above the stove stopped working the second day as well as the runner lights under the cabinets.
The half bath bedroom had the mattress and box spring setting right on the floor which made it difficult to get in and out of bed. The furniture in the living room and dining room was very inexpensive and worn.
We ran out of toilet paper the second day of our stay. There were 7 of us scheduled to occupy the house for a week. There were no Kleenex provided, so we had to purchase those from day one. We also had to purchase dish soap that was not provided and there were only 3 packets of dishwasher soap provided so we had to purchase more.
There was a wood burning stove advertised but we had to get and cut our own wood from around the yard and purchase our own lighter to light it.
The deck swing was torn and could not be used as well as other deck furniture.
There were 4 garage door openers but only one worked. There was a very nice set of front load washer and dryer in the garage that was extremely dirty and we had to wipe them down.
I understand that many renters come and go fast, and that the owners depend on their cleaners and maintenance staff to keep them informed of the condition of the home. I hope that this review will bring needed attention to this property.
Thank you Conception P. for the valuable review, albeit not a good review. Since your stay, we've indeed fired the cleaning service company. We live roughly 250 mi. away, so your feedback will go a long way for things we need to take care of so it doesn't happen again. If you would like to, we would like to offer you a 2 night stay on us to win you back over. Part of the problem was that the renters asked if they could drop off luggage early so they could see the town. Well the cleaners and maintenance person showed up a half hour after the guests that were there had left and the new guests were already there and did not leave. So the maintenance person said he could not get some items addressed like he wanted. He did say that the review was over exaggerated by a long stretch.
A great place to stay while exploring Rocky Mountain National Park
We stayed here for a family reunion to explore Rocky Mountain National Park for 5 days. It is in a great location - nearby to a Safeway, restaurants, and the Estes Park Visitor's Center but in a quiet residential area. It is close enough to the highway to give easy access to Estes Park and RMNP. There are many nice upgrades in the house, and it served our purpose well. The owner was responsive when a few small issues came up. It has a great view from the back deck. Overall, we felt it was a solid value and comfortable lodging for our trip.
The house is located approx. .4 of a mile from downtown and the Stanley Hotel and also Safeway. We are located on 3.5 acres which makes the property very private. The views are amazing from the deck and living room. It is so close that you can walk to downtown or Safeway for your groceries. You constantly see Elk, Deer and an occasional Bear walking through the property. Don't worry the Bears are scared of humans.
