About Steve

Our Family vacationed every year in Estes Park, staying at the YMCA of the Rockies. My Grandmother talked of going up the mountain in a Model T. Dad stumbled upon this property while exploring the area. Originally, the intention was to buy 7.5 acres, but a survey revealed that the cabin was set over the property line, thus purchased 11 more acres of the 18 acres the property currently rests on. The well water comes from a mountain spring that provides pure, delicious drinking.

Steve purchased this house in 1977

Why Steve chose Estes Park

As a place for families to gather, this place has special meaning to many of those who have stayed here. Wildlife abounds as they move up and down the nearby Wind River. Here Aspen, Spruce, Ponderosa, lodgepole pines and fauna change with the seasons, never looking quite like the same space each time you visit. Hike up the river to hidden mountain meadows, serene lakes and breathtaking views starting from the doorstep.

What makes this house unique

Many travelers take advantage of the YMCA of the Rockies many activities including swimming (indoor pool), horseshoes, craft center, tennis, miniature golf, zip lining, library, disc golf, talks around a fire, to name a few. visit http://ymcarockies.org for full details.

You will feel as though you are in a secluded cabin, million miles from anywhere and yet have downtown Estes Park a mere 5 mile drive. This is set in and among natures finest with fresh clean air and water as natural as Nature intended.

The Recovery Room definitely lives up to its name!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The view was wonderful, surrounded by the forest with deer wandering by and birds lulling is into total relaxation. The house was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Any questions we had were quickly answered by the owner. The deck was great for star gazing. If I could give it 10 stars, I would!

"Beyond our expectations." ~ 5 Golden Friends

  • 5 of 5

Five "girls" from the Class of '68 (Seymour, Iowa) gathered this week at the cabin to reconnect, remember and renergize. It proved the perfect setting, with ample room, privacy, views, furnishings and more. We drove Trail Ridge Road, lunched in Grand Lake, enjoyed a delicious dinner at Mama Rosa's and spent hours on the great deck. The elk bugling this morning as we left for our respective homes was the ideal benediction. One small question re: trash was handled well and immediately. Thanks, Steve, for sharing your mountain home.

Wonderful cabin on beautiful property. Definitely coming back.

  • 5 of 5

The owner was very accommodating and thorough, with quick responses. Property is a hidden gem in the back of the YMCA of The Rockies Property. Stayed around Labor Day and the Elk activity was unbeatable. Multiple bulls bugling around the property in the mornings. SO COOOOOL!!! Cabin is modern with a little rustic accent. Can't wait for next summer.

Steve’s mountain home is so inviting. Perfect retreat for our hard working family.

  • 5 of 5

This trip was a long time coming for my family and this cabin was the icing on the cake. It was a perfect location, private and secluded without being far from all of the wonderful local attractions. The cabin was clean as a whistle and the view was stunning. We saw from our very own deck elk And mule deer, and even got a glimpse of a black bear on our trail camera that we put at the bottom of the draw. The YMCA had everything we wanted for the family with outstanding service and anything else we wanted was a stones throw away in the town of Estes. I can’t WAIT to come back!!!!

Awesome place

  • 5 of 5

Spacious cabin with all the amenities. We had a family get together and also rented a smaller cabin close by that was owned by the same owner. Both cabins were clean and exactly as advertised. We had a great time and saw quite a few deer right outside the cabin!

Located within YMCA of the Rockies and neighbors Rocky Mountain National Park and minutes from town activities. Trails begin outside the door. Take a short hike along Wind River and watch beaver, stumble across deer eating beries from bushes or an elk or moose feeding. Aspen and giant spruce abound in this ever changing valley.

The YMCA facilities may be accessed by anyone who is a member of the YMCA or a small daily fee can be paid. The "Y" offers programs for kids to entertain and educate them throughout the week. Horseback riding, mini golf, disc golf, zip-lining, indoor pool, library, tennis courts, craft shop and many other activities welcome you. Stop into the Administration building and ask for the weeks program to plan your visit.

A more extensive hike may be had following Wind River up to waterfalls, grassy meadows and the twinkling of the aspen trees. Lily lake can be accessed and set up a point to look over the town of Estes Park & Lake Estes.

Emerald mountain is steep but affords a great vantage point of where you are staying and the area around it. Going over or around it affords you greater access to some of the most popular destinations within Rocky Mountain National Park.

I suggest a drive on the Peak to Peak Highway, you can end up in Nederland or venture down to Boulder and visit the Pearl Street Mall. Along the way stop into Charlie Eagle Plumes Indian Store, Church on the Rock or the founder of RMNP, Enos Mills cabin.
