Our Family vacationed every year in Estes Park, staying at the YMCA of the Rockies. My Grandmother talked of going up the mountain in a Model T. Dad stumbled upon this property while exploring the area. Originally, the intention was to buy 7.5 acres, but a survey revealed that the cabin was set over the property line, thus purchased 11 more acres of the 18 acres the property currently rests on. The well water comes from a mountain spring that provides pure, delicious drinking.
Steve purchased this House in 1977
Why Steve chose Estes Park
As a place for families to gather, this place has special meaning to many of those who have stayed here. Wildlife abounds as they move up and down the nearby Wind River. Here Aspen, Spruce, Ponderosa, lodgepole pines and fauna change with the seasons, never looking quite like the same space each time you visit. Hike up the river to hidden mountain meadows, serene lakes and breathtaking views starting from the doorstep.
What makes this House unique
Many travelers take advantage of the YMCA of the Rockies many activities including swimming (indoor pool), horseshoes, craft center, tennis, miniature golf, zip lining, library, disc golf, talks around a fire, to name a few. visit http://ymcarockies.org for full details. You will feel as though you are in a secluded cabin, million miles from anywhere and yet have downtown Estes Park a mere 5 mile drive. This is set in and among natures finest with fresh clean air and water as natural as Nature intended.

Nice cabin, with plenty of room. Lots of distance between this cabin and the rest of the YMCA cabins, making you feel like your off on your own mountain escape.
Great cabin at the doorstep of RMNP
My family thoroughly enjoyed staying here. The location is perfect with easy access to the main strip in Estes Park and awesome access to RMNP as well. The cabin had everything we needed (including lots of condiments and odds and ends for cooking) and even delivered on wildlife viewing. We woke up to deer in the snow one morning and had our cars surrounded by elk on a drive back in after hiking. The rooms were spacious and the living room furniture has been upgraded to a leather sectional and other leather chairs. This was a very comfortable place for the seven of us for 4 days. I also appreciated that Steve was easy to communicate with, gave good suggestions, and quick to answer any questions I had. Thanks, Steve! I am sure we will be back again!
Excellent cabin- very convenient and very comfortable. We had a wonderful reunion. Only suggestion- when providing directions, list the name of the cabin. It would have been easier to locate. Thanks again!
This is our third trip to the Recovery Room and it never ceases to amaze. The location is superb because of it's close proximity to the YMCA and the town of Estes Park. You are also very close to the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. This being said, why leave because the cabin has the most fabulous views of the mountains and an abundance of wildlife which can be viewed right from the wrap around deck. The cabin itself is just made for bringing extended family like we did. You have two huge levels to spread out in which makes it so easy to relax. The eat in kitchen is wonderful for any thing from family meals to a very lively birthday party for our ten year old granddaughter which she looks forward to every year. The cabin is always spotless and if you have any questions the managers are just a phone call away and will help in any way they can. Steve, the owner, is also wonderful to work with. He has the patience of a saint when people like me, with too many irons in the fire, gets things messed up. You will never find a better cabin than this one for your next vacation. The Recovery Room is just what it says it is.
We had a great time at the cabin. The deck is as wonderful. The cabin fit 8 people comfortably.
If we were returning to Estes with a large group, we would definitely stay there again!
Located within YMCA of the Rockies and neighbors Rocky Mountain National Park and minutes from town activities. Trails begin outside the door. Take a short hike along Wind River and watch beaver, stumble across deer eating beries from bushes or an elk or moose feeding. Aspen and giant spruce abound in this ever changing valley. The YMCA facilities may be accessed by anyone who is a member of their local YMCA or a small daily fee can be paid. The "Y" offers programs for kids to entertain and educate them throughout the week. Horseback riding, mini golf, frisbee golf, indoor pool, library, tennis courts, craft shop and many other activities welcome you. Stop into the Administration building and ask for the weeks program to plan your visit. A more extensive hike may be had following Wind River up to waterfalls, grassy meadows and the twinkling of the aspen trees. Lily lake can be accessed and set up a point to look over the town of Estes Park & Lake Estes. Emerald mountain is steep but affords a great vantage point of where you are staying and the area around it. Going over or around it affords you greater access to some of the most popular destinations within Rocky Mountain National Park. I suggest a drive on the Peak to Peak Highway, you can end up in Nederland or venture down to Boulder and visit the Pearl Street Mall. Along the way stop into Charlie Eagle Plumes Indian Store, Church on the Rock or the founder of RMNP, Enos Mills cabin.
