Welcome to our secluded mountain retreat on the river. Wade, sit on the rocks, or fish for wild trout in the Big Thompson River and feel your worries fade away. Eat lunch on one of the picnic tables as you admire the mountains, roast marshmallows in the fire pit, or simply relax on the large manicured lawn.
You can enjoy coffee or tea in the morning in the dining room as you watch the wildlife through 5 large windows. Or watch the wildlife from almost any of the other 30 windows in this cozy house - including the five windows surrounding the jetted tub in the master bath! End your day relaxing in one of the large recliners in the sunroom - listening to the river and the other sounds of nature. Views of the snow-capped mountains and the smell of the evergreen trees will stay with you long after you leave.
Our home is in a prime location. We are at the end of a quiet drive with a large private yard that runs down to the river. The entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is only one mile away where you can enjoy the many trails, rivers, and wonderful sights the park has to offer. Shopping also is available less than one mile away with many quaint stores, restaurants, and peaceful walks along the river.
Jim and Gail Shroyer live in Manhattan, Kansas. They are the proud parents of four grown sons and two adorable granddaughters. Both are emeritus faculty at Kansas State University. Jim was an extension wheat specialist and Gail was a science educator. Jim is a native Oklahoman and Gail is a native Californian, but both consider Estes Park 'home away from home'. They have been bringing their children to camp in Rocky Mountain National Park for over twenty years.
The Owner purchased this house in 2009
Jim and Gail bought Mountain Haven as their future retirement home. They love the mountains, the rivers, the incredible wildlife, and the people of Estes Park!
Estes Park is a wonderful community with a multitude of activities. You can hike one of the hundreds of fabulous trails in Rocky Mountain Park, drive the Trail Ridge Road, watch animals, talk to friendly people, shop or eat in 'one of a kind' shops and restaurants, or walk along the river and enjoy the many water works in the center of town.
"Dear Walt and Andrea,
Thank you so much for helping us enjoy our vacation to CO! Your home is beautiful and the location was so convenient to everything. We enjoyed seeing deer in the backyard and soaking our sore feet in the whirlpool tub after climbing Long's Peak (2 of us made it)! Thank you for all the little "extras" your home contains. We will always remember our time here and definitely tell our friends and family about it!"
Four couples enjoy Mountain Haven On the River. This summer in Estes Park marked the 28th summer our four dear couple friends have been blessed to vacation together throughout the U.S. and points beyond. We enjoyed a great week together in the owners Jim and Gail"s mountain home. The house made us feel at home--great beds, baths, laundry and well stocked kitchen and spacious eating area. Oh, we loved the living space, especially the sunroom overlooking the yard and river!. Thank so much. 14 elk in back yard the day we arrived!
Our extended family spent a week in the Mountain Haven house. It was fantastic. The owners were very responsive, answering all our questions quickly and even providing some "local" intel on what to do & where to go. The location of the house is excellent. Getting to RMNP was a breeze and using Riverside drive as a "backway" into downtown worked great...allowed us to avoid some of the traffic. The river in the back yard was a haven for our family - with us spending a good portion of the evenings out by the river. The yard was perfect for the 3 kids - allowing them to run around and play some catch. Inside, the owners have done a great job updating, as the house is very nice. It had everything we needed for a week's stay. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and appliances. The grill came in handy several times throughout the week. If you are looking for a house close to RMNP & downtown, this is a great option. We will be recommending it to anyone going to Estes Park and will look to rent again when we return.
My husband and I, our 2 children and my mother and father stayed in this lovely home for 5 days in June of 2016. (our 2nd time to stay in this house...first time was 5 years ago) We were so comfortable there and had the PERFECT amount of room. We went to a nearby grocery store and cooked most of our meals at the house. There were 2 grills available for us to use to cook out! One of them is out in the backyard, next to the river! The river was gorgeous...we spent several mornings and evenings in the chairs right next to it. My son and husband even fly-fished in the river! We were just a short drive to RMNP, where we were able to hike and see all the flora and fauna of the AMAZING mountains! The owners of the home are super accommodating and go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay. Their home is well taken care of and in impeccable condition. We made the best memories with our entire family.
We stayed in this beautiful cottage 7/20-7/25/2015. We had 4 adults and 2 children and this was a wonderful place to stay. Very quaint and it has the BEST backyard in Estes Park. There is enough room for my kids to run around and play soccer and it has a wonderful sitting area on the river. We had a bear run through the backyard our first night there. Just a short drive to town or to RMNP. It was beautifully furnished and very comfortable. It was clean. The owners were very nice and when we come back to Estes we will be staying here!
Our family of 5 adults and 5 children thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home with a spacious yard along the Big Thompson River! The pictures and descriptions are accurate. The location between Estes Park and RMNP is perfect. We enjoyed conversations along the rushing river, many sightings of deer and elk, plenty of yard space for the children to play, comfortable and roomy indoor space for us all to relax and eat together. The owners were quick to answer questions and make suggestions. We highly recommend this home and hope to use it again!
We highly recommend this VRBO. It was a great place for a family get together for our adult daughters and us. It was a great location and allowed us to walk to town or take advantage of the hiking and other outdoor activities. The owners were great to work with and we hope to take advantage of the property again in the future.
