About Wilma Kosal

Recently retired from sales, but moving full-time into her pottery career, Wilma loves Saugatuck and feels fortunate to be able to share her home with you. Folding out of her lovely backyard, the cottage is nestled in its own oasis and if you want privacy, it’s yours. If you want philosophies on life, stories from her European upbringing, and insight on the true gems of Saugatuck, Wilma is all smiles.

About 15 years ago, Wilma happened to be at the right place at the right time and the stars aligned for her to purchase the Bridge Street home and cottage. Upon her retirement, she has been able to devote more time to gardening and other creative endeavors – many of which you will enjoy during your stay. The garden is inviting and Wilma’s pottery is infused in the space (and as an extra bonus, you can purchase some of her work if you are interested).

Wilma Kosal purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Wilma Kosal chose Southwest

“I felt at home. The general atmosphere of the town, the beach, and the arts spoke to me. How wonderful to be able to enjoy a fantastic meal at a restaurant, enjoy a play, and then walk the shores at sunset. Saugatuck is beautiful, unique, friendly, and there are different programs and events offered throughout the year that whenever you visit, something special awaits you.”

What makes this cottage unique

Past guests have described the cottage as romantic, enchanting, and cozy. You come to a potentially busy town and you can escape in your own cottage. There are only 3 houses on the street. You are alone if you want to be. Downtown is only a 5 minute walk from the cottage. The garden is lovely and past guests comment that it feels like you are transported back in time.

Personally, I love riding my bike into town, hanging out at the coffee shop while reading the paper and people-watching. Then I enjoy gardening back at my house, talking with friends, and taking walks at sunset on the beach. It is my ideal retirement town.

Such a cozy cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at Bridge Street Place! We didn’t arrive until 9:30 Friday night, but Wilma still greeted us and gave us a quick rundown on the history of the cottage and showed us where we could find anything we needed. The cottage was incredibly clean, the linens were lovely, and the enchanted garden in the back was amazing. Wilma had a list of suggested restaurants posted, and the 4 places we visited on the list did not disappoint. I would highly suggest a stay at Bridge Street Place, and I can’t wait to return myself!

Lovely cottage walking distance to downtown

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a tiny house to stay in while visiting the Saugatuck area, and this cute cottage did not disappoint. It has an updated bathroom, kitchen area with fridge, toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, and sink, cable TV, small dining area for two, and deck overlooking a peaceful backyard with fountain. Very quiet, relaxing, and most important, very clean. It's also walking distance (10 mins?) to downtown. The owner is very friendly, greeted us when we arrived, and also gave us good recommendations for restaurants.

Sweet but musty

  • 3 of 5

This tiny cottage is quite sweet but unfortunately has a musty smell. It did rain the entire time we were there, so we weren't able to enjoy the small deck and outdoors.

There were also a couple of dishes in the cupboard that were dirty and the floor was dirty. Could use a deep clean.

Made the most of our time away, though.

Owner's Response: I am confused and puzzled by this review as I did not have a guest on the 5th. As you can see by the other reviews we have never had this kind of review. The cottage is aired out daily, cleaned and inspected after each guest leaves. There is also a welcome letter in the cottage that asks each guest to go through the cottage and report any dissatisfaction within the first 24 hrs. I did not receive such a call. Since I live next door I ask each guest as they leave if all was all right and did not receive any complains from guests staying around date mentioned. Don't know what happened but am sorry for all this confusion.
