About the host
Hosted by David Bogue
Dave and Lucy have built a beautiful life together, with a home in Burlington, Vermont, where Dave grew up. Both graduated from the University of Vermont (UVM), and their shared history is woven into the fabric of the community. Yet, their story extends beyond Burlington to a summer home and cottages on a picturesque property they cherish.
Dave's career in commercial construction had taken him through many projects, but none as personal as the one he embarked on with Lucy. He found this property through an old friend in real estate who knew the islands well. When Dave first saw the property, it was in rough shape, with overgrown plants and structures that needed significant repair. Despite its condition, he saw immense potential and envisioned what it could become.
With determination and love, Dave and Lucy began the journey of restoring the property. They spent countless hours planning, building, and refining every detail. Slowly but surely, the property transformed, becoming a haven that reflects their hard work and dreams.
One of the greatest joys Dave and Lucy found in their summer cottages was sharing them with others. They opened their doors to guests, many of whom returned year after year. These guests became like family, and Dave and Lucy eagerly anticipated their visits. They watched young families grow, with children learning to fish, swim, kayak, canoe, and bike under their parents' guidance. The property became a place of joy, laughter, and cherished memories.
Hosting others brings immense satisfaction to Dave and Lucy. They love meeting new people and hearing their stories. Dave, in particular, enjoys wandering the site, often stopping to introduce himself to guests he sees outside. His friendly nature makes everyone feel welcome. However, there are times when the property is bustling with activity, and Dave has to focus on keeping everything running smoothly. Even then, his presence is felt in every corner of the property.

Why they chose this property
The beauty of the property is truly captivating. Situated on the west shore of South Alburgh, it boasts 1,000 feet of lakeshore and 45 acres of open meadows. This unique location offers expansive views in multiple directions, showcasing breathtaking vistas of the lake, sky, and meadows. Visitors can enjoy stunning sunrises, sunsets, moonrises, moonsets, and watch hawks, ospreys, eagles, and various other birds hunting for their next meals.
Once a dairy farm with summer rental cottages, the property has a rich history. From what we can gather, the cottage rental part of the farm began in the late 1940s or early 1950s. We still have visitors who reminisce about renting cottages here in the 1970s and 1980s. Although the original cottages were replaced by new structures around 20 years ago, we have renovated and updated them to provide modern comforts for family vacations. While the original barn is gone and the property is no longer a dairy farm, the meadows are still hayed by a local farmer, and the vacation rental business that started decades ago has been revitalized.

What makes this property unique
Dave and Lucy love the openness of the land in Alburgh. It allows you to fully appreciate what the sky has to offer: amazing cloud formations; storms approaching over the lake; breath-taking sunrises and sunsets, moonrises and moonsets; full rainbows and double rainbows; birds such as osprey, gulls, and an occasional bald eagle. We love it all, and it is constantly changing and surprising us!
