The one and only island of Daufuskie! Take the ferry from Hilton Head or Savannah and feel any stress in your life instantly go away with the soft breeze and the refreshing smell of the ocean.
Transportation will be waiting your arrival at the landing, and take you and your luggage to Melrose Plantation, where your peaceful oceanfront cottage awaits you. We are pet friendly so please let us know if you are going to bring your furry friend and we will make the proper accommodations. The four passenger golf cart will be parked at the cottage when you arrive.
Walk in to a place with a magnificent view of the Atlantic that you will find nowhere else on earth. Both doors have been upgraded to electronic code locks for your convenience so you never have to worry about a key while your there!
Each bedroom is the same size with two Queens beds, and full private baths. The bathrooms are large and spacious and include a fairly large tub for a soothing bath. In the open kitchen you are provided with all the necessary pots, pans, plates, glasses and utensils, with plenty of room for your groceries. We DO NOT provide WiFi. There are some networks in the area that may be available.
The screened in porch looking out at the ocean is a relaxing place to spend the evening with a cocktail. The sun rises in the east and is a beautiful sight coming up early in the morning with some fresh coffee.
On the island of Daufuskie the most difficult decision is to walk the quiet, clean beach, read a book on the back porch listening to the ocean, touring the island on your golf cart and seeing the many wild animals, the seasonal Sea Turtle eggs or historic relics from the Civil War. Don't forget horseback riding, game of tennis, or a round of golf at the famous Jack Nicholas golf course might satisfy. Or you could shop at the Silver Dew Pottery or the Gullah and Island Museum or the Community Farm. The Rum factory is also a nice stop for the adults!
Maybe even plan your week with fun filled activities from many of the charter fishing, jet skiing, para sailing, or dolphin tours offered in the area.

Great stay on Daufuskie!
Daufuskie Island was the perfect location to spend a girl's weekend away. We were so glad to find this wonderful home which was very roomy and comfortable. The view to the beach was perfect! We walked the beach and most of the time we were the only people in sight. Jonathan was very helpful and quick to respond. We were well taken care of!
We booked a boat ride from Bluffton with May River Excursions and enjoyed the ride over with Captain Stephen and his 2 dogs. James picked us up on the island and he shared stories of his family since his grandparents were long time residents of the island.
We visited some of the businesses plus met so many friendly people. Make sure to visit The Iron Fish, tour Daufuskie Island Rum Distillery, grab lunch at Lucy Bell's and drinks at Freeport Marina. Highly recommend staying here. Look forward to coming back soon!
Few Day Getaway
Every time we want to just get away even for a few days we always head for Daufuskie and stay (again & again) at 134 Ave. of Oaks. We have stayed there many times and enjoy our stay each time. Plan your trip to the island with May River Excursions, they ferry from Bluffton. They are super accommodating and then make sure you have transportation to the cottage once you arrive. Then once you arrive, just relax and enjoy the view. The cottage always has the space and necessities we need. Open both doors and let the breeze come through while either relaxing on the front porch, front yard or put your feet in the sand. My kids love riding their bikes (yes we haul them over there) and just being disconnected. Can't wait to go back again!
Wish I could give -1!!
Before arrival I sent owner email with a question regarding grocery delivery. To my surprise, he stated he had never heard of Instacart or Cyber Valet grocery. Red flag #1. Check in is at 3pm. We arrive exhausted and ready to relax at 6:30. Only to find cleaning supplies are front door, door open, floors filthy, beds tossed, entire cottage dirty. Housekeeper finally arrives stating she had no idea someone was coming. I call owner and he said," they knows the schedule, let me call." Then tells me that she just had to get her vacuum!! 3 hrs after Check in and beds aren't made, everything dirty because she had no vacuum?!! Then we realize there were no hand soaps or shampoo as listed on VRBO. Had to call owner yet again.i also told him the cottage was STILL dirty, he called back and said the housekeeper would come back to clean. Um, no, we had already unpacked. Go to bed that night, guess what??NO SATELLITE tv..no TV AT ALL. Call the owner AGAIN...said he called Direct TV a dig would take AT LEAST 24 hrs or they would have to MAIL a new box. So, no TV, which was listed on VRBO. Then ,since we are on an island with limited restaurants we wanted to cook in a lot. Guess what?? NO mixing bowls, chipped coffee mugs and dishes everywhere, watered down dish liquid. Then, the cottage ,as listed on VRBO, comes with golf cart. We get there and someone calls from Daufuskie Tours and states she is bringing out cart. She comes and asks for MY CREDIT CARD info!!!???? Not only did I not u understand why this was happening, but the OWNER should've handled this himself. I have owned rental property before, I know that I would apologize profusely and try my BEST to make things right. This owner was beyond flippant and uninterested in helping us have an enjoyable experience. I have many friends who are interested in going to Daufuskie after heading about our trip and the first thing I tell them is DO NOT rent this cottage.
We generally get one rental group a year that has a complaint for everything in an attempt to get a free vacation. Following multiple 5 star reviews, we ask that future renters please take into consideration that you are going to a remote island with no bridge. There is no Walmart, grocery store, or CVS down the street, and service companies generally move a little slower. If you are expecting a Ritz Carleton experience, some advice would be to not book anything on Daufuskie.
We have a wonderful cottage and many returning guests every year. I will decline to comment on the claims they are making in this review, but would be happy to address anything with a future renter.
Overall, the property was fantastic. However, upon arrival the house had yet to be cleaned and there was dirty dishes and linens. The management was quick to respond and send in a cleaning lady. The golf cart also did not work so they had to call in a new rental. Management provided us a $50 credit at the local restaurant for the inconvenience. The cottage was as close to the water as you could get. There is a screened in porch which we loved. This place is extremely dog friendly. The kitchen does not come with everything you would need to make a meal, so plan ahead if you are cooking. Also, no grocery store on the island. So bring everything with you.
Perfect for secluded vacation!
We loved our trip!! It's different, secluded & relaxing. I was nervous at first because of getting to island by boat. We used Mayriver excursions and he was super nice, always on time. We stayed 7 nights and broke the week up by returning to land to visit Savannah for a day trip. Loved Marshside Mama's & the Frappes at Morning Coffee place. The place we stayed was clean, neat and golf cart was greatest for getting around. We enjoyed the beach where we were staying but loved the public beach the most. My advice is make sure pack all food that's needed but running out to have appetizers at places was fun also. The condo was well equipped and had everything ya needed to cook with. Even paper towels and dish wash was included so honestly you just need the food. The locals were so nice and helpful. Also enjoyed talking with them about the Island. Some of the properties were abandoned but that just made our stay more fun because it meant less hassle enjoying things around. We saw gators, sting ray, dolphins, deer, birds, and ducks. (Oh and John Mellencamp) LOL. We respected his privacy of course but it was kinda cool. 😊 We were tired of all the other fast paced vacations filled with people so this was our favorite. ❤️ I think it's perfect for those that just enjoy being on island time. Oh and a big must~DONT forget the bug spray!! We had to wear it the entire time. Hope y'all have as much fun as we did.
Great cottage. Location is perfect as it overlooks the beach towards Hilton Head
The stay was amazing. This is the second time we have stayed at the same property and it was even better this time. We did have a minor maintenance issue (air filters clogged and needed replacing) upon arrival but I contacted one of the homeowners and was suprised to find he was on the island. He immediately came to the property and made sure the issue was fixed. All he really had to do was call for someone else to fix it, but the personal attention was greatly appreciated. The paint and other upgrades since our last visit was very refreshing, especially the larger golf cart which allowed our party to use one instead of renting another one. All in all the trip was perfect and I hated to see it end.
