About Mark Mammel

My wife and I have visited Carmel, both for business and with our family, for 30 years. We finally decided to buy this wonderful house. We love the area, with its consistently warm- but not hot- temperatures and the magnificent Pacific Ocean so close.

Mark Mammel purchased this house in 2011

What makes this house unique

There's nothing like getting up in the morning and heading out for a walk on the beach or down Scenic Avenue. We often head towards Ocean Avenue, then up the road to one of the many coffee shops. The day can unfold from there!

Fantastic View

  • 5 of 5

Location, Location, Location says it all! A fantastic view of the beach. You can see and hear the waves crashing on the shore. We spent all of our time at the house outside enjoying the view. In fact, we did not even turn on the TV all week-- the picture outside was better. Being by the state beach, at the opposite end of where most of the tourists go was very peaceful. The house and garden areas were beautiful and relaxing. I highly recommend this house.

Another idyllic experience

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have been renting Castillo Caracol for periods ranging from just a week to several months since 2013. We obviously enjoy staying on beautiful Carmel Point and at this particular property for many reasons. The property is perfectly situated with lovely views of Carmel River Beach and the Pacific Ocean, with Carmel Meadows and Point Lobos in the distance. We particularly enjoy sitting out and entertaining on the outside patio, which not only affords these lovely views but also boasts a wonderful outdoor wood-burning fireplace, surrounded by sculptural trees and beautiful gardens. There's also a gas fireplace in the living room, which adds to the welcoming nature of the space. The property has a great layout, is well appointed and equipped, and maintained beautifully. The owners are especially kind people. The property is located within walking distance or a very short drive to Mission Ranch, which offers great tennis, a small fitness center, and a wonderful patio and dining rooms for cocktails and dinner (the patio overlooks a meadow where the Ranch's sheep graze, with Carmel River Beach and the Pacific Ocean in the distance). We can't say enough about what a special place for us this is. We look forward to our future visits.

Awesome week!

  • 5 of 5

The views from the front porch are absolutely fantastic. The house is located in our favorite area of Carmel, short walk to the beach and an easy walk to downtown (much easier with our bikes). The house is in great condition and has a local property manager that is great and easy to reach (Terry). We will definitely stay here again, highly recommend this house.

Perfect Chil-laxation place.Very comfortable home, you will not want to leave,,the patio/fireplace area overlooks the Carmel river beach. The fresh air, trees, birds, people,,all remind you of what life is supposed to be like everyday..I reccomend this home to anyone needing to '"de-stress" for a week or more..In a week, we turned TV on ONCE..! Enough said...Thanks to Mark for opening up his home for others to share this paradise area..

Known as one of the most magical places on the planet. A Quaint little village by the sea that enchants all that visit. You will see wonderful beaches, delightful architecture, and scenes that will inspire your soul!

Once you've experienced the serenity and quiet beauty of this seaside town, you may never leave. A tourist draw for over 100 years, the spectacular coastline, striking white sand beaches, bohemian charm, trendy shops and fine restaurants keep people coming back. No streetlights or house numbers were the early ground rules in what originated as an artists' colony, and that hasn't changed. Within the town's original one square mile, houses are identified by the nearest crosswalks or even the closest tree. Grab a picnic lunch and stroll along the beach, where you can gaze out at some of the world's most stunning coastline views. Then, meander through town to explore the chic boutiques and art galleries. A trip to the beautiful Carmel Mission reinforces the tranquil aura; time seems to have stood still since the mission's establishment in 1771. Outdoor types should head to Point Lobos State Reserve, with its hiking trails, scuba diving and a chance to watch even the sea lions savor the easy life.
