  • We want to make the Whalers cottage an annual visit.

"We first visited the Whaler's Cottage last year to celebrate a 70th birthday. We had family visit and what a wonderful time we had. We cooked most of our dinners and unlike other rentals the knives were sharp (very important) and if not, there was a knife sharpener. This year we invited a couple from Indiana that are old friends of ours. They could not believe the location and views that we experienced. Every morning one of them said "oh, another day of ocean TV!". Lots to do in surrounding area if you are not golfers. We loved the trails from the cottage down to the river and back. Point Lobos state reserve is not to be missed. Also, we were able to see butterflies in Pacific Grove. Again we ate meals in the evening at the cottage and marveled at the well stocked kitchen. We like three restaurants: The Red House, Fish Wives and not to be missed, The Roadhouse for shrimp and grits. Great beds, great views, and very, very clean. We will plan on a 2017 visit."

  • Nice relaxing stay

"Our stay here was nice and relaxing. The front garden area is a great place to enjoy a good book and also provides a calming view of the ocean. The only challenge was it lacked cell phone reception in most areas; that could be a good thing or a bad thing for some. I was able to get a signal in the street and Mary does provide a land line phone for any needed calls. There is also wifi coverage for Internet access. Overall a very pleasant retreat."

  • A Special Place

"If what you're looking for is a functional, charming cottage in a beautiful location steps from Monastery Beach, where you can watch the waves crash against the rocks with your morning coffee, then you've found your place. We enjoyed walking up the coastal trail which starts in the back yard, but were always happy to return to our home-away-from-home among the Eucalyptus trees. A grill and fireplace are provided to take some of the chill out of the Pacific breezes. We couldn't have asked for a better place to relax by the sea. Keep in mind it's not a swimming beach, so if you're looking for that you probably want to head up to Carmel."

  • Magical Cabin in the Woods

"We stayed for 3 nights and 4 days in this wonderful main cabin nestled in the Redwood forest. The pictures in the website do not include the magical feeling that you get when you first encounter this cabin. The cabin is surrounded by giant redwood trees and the property even had it's own running stream. The beds were very comfortable and the heat from the wood burning fire stove made the cabin very cozy. Our first night in the cabin we met Abraham, Lisa's Husband. Abraham was really friendly guy and showed us how to use the wood burning fire place. The Kitchen area had all of the utensils, pots, and condiments that you will need to prepare your meals. The beds are really comfortable. Over All, if you are looking for a cozy cabin to just relax and be away from it all then this is the place for you. The cabin's location was ideal if you want to spend a day hiking in Big Sur. It's a few miles away from Point Lobos and we even made it out to Monterrey Aquarium."
