  • Everything they say is true: Gorgeous Home, Ocean Views, Steps to Secluded Beach!

"This home was the perfect backdrop and location for our week and a half in Carmel. The house has wonderful areas to gather--the living room, the kitchen, the dining room, the decks, the hot tub. And it worked out very well for us on this trip that the house has two master bedrooms/baths. Even though the house does not back up to the beach, the views of the beach are amazing and can be seen from various locations in the house. (My favorite spot was in the sitting area in the living room overlooking the ocean and beach.). And with the windows open, the neighborhood is so quiet that you can hear the waves. This was our second time in three years to rent a VRBO house in Carmel, and we liked this location better than being in Carmel By-The-Sea because it is much easier/faster to get to anywhere by car. AND the secluded beach is just steps away. (It's still not too far of a walk to get to Carmel Beach--but we preferred the secluded beach.) The furnishings make the house very comfortable, and the artwork makes it interesting and alive. The weather was also perfect (while there was a record heat wave back in Oklahoma)--but I don't think the homeowner had any control over that! We hope to return!"

  • Relaxing stay!

"The house was charming and the owner was very helpful with his directions and email responses. The parking was not a problem--and worth it, as the great location allowed me to park the car, stow the car keys, and take charming, easy walks to the market, the beach, the nature area, and into town. Something for everyone to enjoy! The outdoor areas were a great place to have our meals; and we had fun playing Clue, which we bought at the local toy store, in the Jungle room. I do recommend finding the house in daylight, as it is located on a spur of 8th, and at the end of the little road. We had such a sense of privacy, even in a residential area. The house was very welcoming and we really appreciated the little touches- fresh flowers on the table and a bowl of mandarins to start off our stay. The plug-in air fresheners were a bit much, but we unplugged those. The days went by too quickly-we hope to return in the future. We recommend Bruno's Market for sandwiches and groceries. Very friendly staff and great food/wine selection. Our trip to Pfieffer State Beach was a treat as well."

  • Lovely peaceful 1 floor house, ideal for dogs.

"Had a very pleasant stay for a week in April. Great location, quiet and perfect for small dogs. Fenced yard completely pet proof. 20 min walk to the middle of Carmel shops along quiet, polite streets. No surprises, it is exactly as advertised. Two master bedrooms, with all the amenities you could need. Wifi worked, garage for the vehicle and good tv's. Carmel and the neighbourhood is a safe and friendly as it gets. Very solidly recommended."

  • Breathtaking

"Even for a person who has lived most of my life on the coast, staying at the Abalone Cottage was an incredibly experience. To have the Pacific Ocean as part of the front yard is so seldom experienced that it was all we could do to tear ourselves away from the view to do anything else. The cottage is immaculately maintained both inside and out, no small task for a home on the water. The furniture is extremely comfortable, the kitchen had everything I could possibly need, the linens were wonderful, more hidden in plain sight storage space was discovered every day, lanterns and flashlights were conveniently placed should we lose power (we didn't) and wood available should we want to make a fire. The showers were great, the bathroom spotless, plenty of extra towels for shower or the beach and even an apartment size washer/dryer was provided. There is nothing more we could have asked for. We were in love and truly hope to return next year."
