About the property

Our pet friendly home offers the best of the river and the sea. With its own private dock, it is located on the Nestucca River less than I mile from the beach. Whether you are taking advantage of access to one of the best salmon fishing rivers in the country from the dock or just watching the cows mosey through the pasture across the river from the dining room table or our beautiful deck, we dare you not to relax and enjoy. Our friendly rates are affordable allowing you to enjoy your stay longer.

Our living room adjoins the dining room and has plenty of cozy seating whether you’re reading or watching TV. There is a library of DVDs for your enjoyment as well as Yahtzee, Scrabble, cribbage, and many more games to play.

Our updated 3 bedroom home is fully equipped for 8 of your friends and family. We have one bedroom on the main level with direct access to the bath and a comfy queen bed. Upstairs sports a cool denim motif with a king dual controlled sleep number bed in the back bedroom. Bedroom 1 has an oversized double bed and an extra-long twin with a trundle below. Linens are provided.

We are a 1 bath home with a unique twist. There is a door between the shower/tub and sink/toilet areas. Each has its own entrance giving the basics of a 2 bath home.

Our kitchen has been recently updated with granite counter tops and sinks. We feature a refrigerator complete with ice maker, microwave, stove, washer, dryer, and an abundance of small appliances. Service for 8 or more is provided. Ready to picnic at the beach…the ice chest, roasting sticks, and pots for your crab await you.

Do you prefer to BBQ at home? The charcoal grill and utensils are ready; the outdoor table can be set. Our deck offers a large glass wind break for full enjoyment. Life jackets are available for your youngsters.

Your private dock gives you access for fishing, kayaking, and boating of all kinds. There is a boat launch opposite the grocery store for easy access to the river.

If you are celebrating a special event or just getting away, we welcome you. Remember you are just minutes away from a long walk on the beach, a magical climb up Cape Kiwanda, an award winning brew pub (The Pelican), numerous restaurants and shops. Whether you crab, clam, fish, cycle, hike, surf, hang glide, jet ski the waves of Tierra Del Mar, or 4 wheel the dunes of Sandlake we know it will be a vacation to remember.

About Bryan or Rob Speight

This home has been our family retreat since our parents bought it in 1972. Our children and now our grandchildren grow up enjoying the boating, fishing, crabbing, hiking, and beachcombing outside the doors. In 2006 we purchased a 2nd home in Pacific City so that our expanding family can party and play together. We now have chosen to share one of our treasures with you when not in use by the family.

Bryan or Rob Speight purchased this house in 1972

Why Bryan or Rob Speight chose Pacific City

Whether you love the sound and beauty of the river or magic of the Oregon beaches, this home is your place for fun and relaxation. The cows play in the pasture across the river and the fish jump below as you play games at the kitchen table, BBQ , or read a book on the deck. More action...climb Cape Kiwanda, surf or jet ski the waves to shore. kayak, crab, clam, fish, cycle, the acitvities are endless.

Great vacation house!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful house, great area near the beach. Awesome veiw right out the dining room window. Wish we could have spent more time on the deck. We saw elk right across the river the very 1st day. The house was completley stocked with everything we needed and was super clean. I would recommend to anyone looking for a nice, comfortable vacation home within 5 min of the beach. The cows across the street were very friendly also.

This is my 4th year at staying at the Nestucca River retreat. And as like the 1st year has been a very memorable fun time. Love having a private dock to tie my boat up to. As the Dock itself is a excellent spot to catch Salmon. Only about 5 mins from the beach when we got tired of fishing. The House itself has just about everything you will need from dishes to towels etc... It has been a great time and can't wait until next year to come back. I recommend this nice house to anybody even if you are not into fishing. Thanks for sharing this home with us.

Fishing Dream

  • 5 of 5

Second trip to Nestucca River house. 1st time was excellent, second time even better! Nice clean house, close to supplies and restaurants. Beach is 5 minutes away, if you have a four wheel drive you can drive all of your beach stuff onto the beach, which is pretty cool and the beach itself is gorgeous. Fish from the dock or bring your boat. We fished from the dock and had two hookups with Chinook Salmon some of these fish are over 45lbs! Use large spinners or use bobber and sand shrimp. Across the street there is a cow pasture, if you walk over all of the cows will come over and check you out! Hilarious! Behind the house is a beautiful view of the Nestucca and the coast range foothills. We will be back, love this house and its location! Hard to believe a one star review. Both times for us were perfect!

Owner's Response: John and Family, Thank you, thank you for such a wonderful review and, as always, staying at our little retreat away from it all. As we have only been sharing our home for just a few years, we appreciate the returning families and couples that have come to love and appreciate the value of our home away from home. As far as your fishing, better luck landing them next time and the first thing the kids do getting out of the car is say Hi to the cows. You couldn't have described our place and Pacific City beaches better. We look forward to your family's return, as I already have your vacation dates saved, and again we appreciate you taking the time for such positive feedback. Sincerely, Bryan and Family

The worst experience both with cleanliness and negative owners that I have had anywhere...

  • 1 of 5

During our stay we encountered dirty bloodstained sheets, dirty blankets with holes & cuts, dirty dishes in the cupboard, rusted bent utensils, cobwebs full of dust & dead bugs on window sills throughout the house.

A newly dug up sewer line by the deck smelled horrid during half of our stay, making it impossible to sit & enjoy the view. The metal traction strips on the ramp to the dock had several Allen screws missing, one strip being attached by only one screw, sticking up in the air & cutting my granddaughters ankle. Without the right tool, it took me ten minutes to loosen & move one screw, securing it temporarily, however when I told the owner about this she accused our grandchildren of removing the screws and throwing them in the river. Evidentally 8 year olds carry an Allen wrench.

As our family members came from 3 states, I decided to clean what I could, make the best of it, and contact the out of town owners after our stay. I assumed that they would want to know that there were things needing attention & that the housekeeper had done a poor job.

I sent pictures to the owners as soon as I got home, along with a polite e-mail asking that they refund at least the cleaning fee that I paid in advance & possibly a portion of the rent if after a review of the situation they felt that was fair. After waiting a week, I e-mailed again, this time letting her know that one of the kids came home with head LICE! Her response was to thank me for the input & they would take care of the bedding as needed, saying that dirty blankets would not have been noticed by the housekeeper. (The rental contract states to put ONLY sheets and towels in the laundry, if blankets are removed from the beds there will be an extra cleaning fee.) Since then, I received word that another family member from another state also took home head lice.

She also accused us of leaving a mess that took 25% more time to clean. I personally did a thorough walk through, all trash was removed, linens were by the washer, sinks, counters, floors, and surfaces cleared, all games, DVDs, life jackets, BBQ, etc. were put away.

I expected the rental to be clean, in good repair, & as represented. The yard that is shown in their pics is the NEIGHBORS! When mentioned, I was told that I should've looked at the property via satellite.

The owners response was defensive, accusatory, and threatening, sent on lawyer letterhead. I need this to be resolved fairly.

Owner's Response: We vehemently disagree with your review and believe this is an attempt to use social media to extort a refund for a very affordable vacation stay: The home is equipped with an unrestricted telephone landline, cellular service, and Wifi for internet connectivity and messaging, none of which you used during your week long stay to contact us, but you posted Facebook photos during your stay, including your teenage grandson’s crab pinched bloody finger and other grandchildren buried in sand, but for some reason you waited until you returned home after your stay to complain and demand a refund. Our family vacation home is owned by over 20 children and grandchildren from a wonderful couple, including family members that live locally by Cape Kiwanda & Lincoln City and are ready and able to take care of any problems. The sewer system is controlled by the Nestucca Valley public utility district and was not dug up, but the home is surrounded by cow pastures, across the road and across the river, and fertilized by the farmers, it is Tillamook County. The dirt was due to the dock being pulled from its moorings because of the unprecedented low river level at low tide. This is why we know the dock and ramp were in great shape just days prior to your arrival; we personally repaired it. Again, had we been informed during your stay, family owners would have come with tool box in hand and repaired any problem, including something to cover the dirt you were offended by. The spider webs on the outside deck light and on the back of the outside deck chair were removed, that being said, our local housekeeper does a great job of cleaning, dusting, sanitizing, laundry, inspecting the bedding, and preparing the home for guest arrivals. None of the alleged problems were ever reported prior to your departure, including your accusation of lice, dirty, stained, torn bedding, and none have been reported since, including the family that arrived immediately after you, since nothing was reported until after you returned home, they had already check in. Sand fleas can be found on the Oregon beaches during the hottest times of the year and can be mistaken for lice. Fleas are treated for after each guest visit as we do allow pets. There are not any pictures that claim a yard in our VRBO site, just the deck. Exceeding max occupancy of 8 caused more cleaning time and no extra fees. Your complaints are not reasonable nor in line with other guest reviews. Response space limited by VRBO.

Car: recommended

Our family retreat is located on the Nestucca River with your own private dock and is less than 1 mile from the beach and only 2 miles from Cape Kiwanda. Enjoy hours of tranquility watching the river and the dairy cows from our beautiful deck or the kitchen table. Minutes away is a long walk on the beach, a magical climb up Cape Kiwanda, an award winning brewery (The Pelican Brewpub) and many excellent restaurants and shops. Outdoor activities include fishing, crabbing, clamming, surfing, hang gliding, watching (or charter) the dory boats launch from the sands, jet skiing on the waves of Tierra Del Mar; whale watching, cycling and hiking. The Nestucca River is 'a real gem of an all-around stream' according to Madelynne Sheehan in Fishing In Oregon . Anglers fish for Fall and Spring Chinook, Cutthroat Trout, and Steelhead on this beauty of a river just out your back door. We are located 10 minutes from 4 wheeling at Sandlake, 30 minutes south of the Tillamook Cheese Factory and Blue Heron Cheese and Wine or 30 minutes north of Lincoln City which offers a day of shopping at the outlet mall or a night of gambling and entertainment at Chinook Winds Resort & Casino. This home is only 75 minutes from Salem and 90 to 120 minutes from the Portland area.
