Good value in the Christmas season, with some drawbacks
This was our second year staying in the Ho'olei complex, and we really like it here. Last year we stayed in the same type of unit configuration, but not in this unit in particular. Both stays have been in units that are not under Grand Wailea management. The long story short is that these units offer a good view, decent layout, a nice pool area, and decent proximity to the same beach that is in front of the Grand Wailea and Four Seasons, with not too many things to complain about. I've listed my criticism below, but it's quite minor, and I would encourage anyone who is looking to rent from this company and in this complex.
There is no issue walking through the GW to get to the beach, and you'll have no problem using their pool bar or restaurants: but, you won't be able to use their pools or lawn chairs, and you may not be able to rent a Cabana from them either. This was a major bummer for us this year, as last year GW did allow us to rent Cabana's from them. Perhaps this will change for when you visit - they seem to change the policy depending on how busy they are. It is hard to fault the management of this unit - they are prompt, responsive, and fairly flexible.
I do have a few minor complaints/constructive observations:
1: The night of our arrival, we were asked to stay at an adjacent complex instead of this one because the mattresses had just been cleaned at the unit we rented and had not yet dried. This gave us an opportunity to see a comparable unit in a nearby but separate complex - we didn't mind. However, the next day we needed to transport all of our luggage to the new unit. I ended up having to get a taxi, which aren't always the easiest thing to come by in Maui. At the price we were paying for the unit, I would have expected the management to offer to cover the cost, but they didn't.
2: The bed in the second bedroom: the frame is unnecessarily large and take up almost the entire room (easy to hit with your knees) and the mattress was saggy to the middle.
3: There was a bit of a bad smell coming from the dishwasher, and there were some loose boards on the floor. Some of the walls have marks on them. In general, at times it just felt a little bit unloved/not particularly clean.
4: The last time we stayed at the complex, our host had given us passes for a free lawn chair rental on the beach. It was only a ~$60 value, but it was a really nice touch. The absence of it this year was noticed.

Heaven! Truly Heaven!
What a wonderful time we had at this condo. The location was perfect to walking everywhere and I do mean everywhere. The home is beautiful and well maintained. They even have sand chairs for the beach which we used a ton! There was even an elevator inside. It literally was beautiful and a great way to relax.
That said there are a few things to know. This particular unit is NOT a member of the Grand Wailea hotel so you do NOT have access to the hotel at all. When you go to the pool you must bring your towels that the unit does provide. There are several other units in this compound on VRBO that are members which allows you access to the hotel amenities. I assumed this unit belonged, but it does NOT!!!!
My only complaint for this unit was the bath towels were horrible!! Scratchy and very cheap. Stained too a lot of them. That was disappointing. Other then that I would book this unit again for sure! The beds were very comfortable too :)
We stayed here with family for our wedding on the island and it was perfect!

Beautiful property with an incredible view. Unit just needs to be updated some (washer/dryer did not function properly all of the time). The Tommy Bahama chairs that came with the unit were broken. The outdoor furniture on the lanai needs to be replaced. The development and unit have unparalleled views and very well-maintained common grounds. A real estate query of the unit itself suggest that it retails for $3M. With the price that I paid for the unit for a week, I just am of the opinion that the furniture could be updated more often then what appears to be every few years. That being said based on the beauty of the grounds, the craftsmanship of the unit, and the proximity to all of Wailea, I would return.
