The Guest Cabin - Historic Home in Big Canoe
Summary:
Some cabins are built to look rustic. This one simply is. One of the original log cabins in Big Canoe, this home has the warmth and character that only comes with time. Original timber walls and a stone fireplace give it a sense of permanence, while thoughtful updates make it comfortable for modern stays.
The Space:
Life here naturally slows down. Mornings begin with coffee on the porch as the woods wake up around you, afternoons invite a good book or long conversations, and evenings end beside the fire after a day spent exploring the mountains. With two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and a fully equipped kitchen, the cabin comfortably accommodates up to four guests.
Bedroom #1 includes a full sized bed and ensuite bathroom with an oversized single vanity and glass walk-in shower.
Bedroom #2 is in the loft and includes a full size bed, smart TV, work desk with chair, and ensuite bathroom with a single vanity and glass walk-in shower.
Just as memorable is the atmosphere. Neighbors wave as they pass, wildlife is part of everyday life, and there’s a genuine sense of community throughout Big Canoe. Dogs are just as welcome, with multiple dog parks and miles of dog-friendly trails to explore together. We love welcoming dogs to the cabin. Before booking, please take a moment to review our pet guidelines.
Built in 1974, this cabin was among the very first homes in Big Canoe. Over fifty years later, it still stands as a quiet reminder of the community’s beginnings. Original timber walls, hand-laid stone, and the towering fireplace remain just as they were, preserving the warmth, simplicity, and authenticity that make this home so special. In fact, the original builder still calls Big Canoe home today—a testament to the enduring spirit of this remarkable community.
Thoughtful updates in 2020 include central heating and air, along with a fully functional kitchen, providing modern comfort without sacrificing the cabin’s original character. Some places earn their character over time. If you’re looking to experience Big Canoe from one of the homes that helped shape its story, we’d be honored to share this cabin with you.
The Neighborhood:
Just a short walk from Lake Petit, the cabin offers easy access to hiking, fishing, and everything that makes Big Canoe special, while still feeling tucked away among the trees.Whether you’re visiting for a quiet weekend or a longer stay, experience Big Canoe from one of its original homes.
Still more exciting, Big Canoe offers miles of scenic hiking trails that wind through the mountains to streams and natural waterfalls. The community also features a clubhouse with several dining options, a wellness center complete with a fitness facility, indoor pool, and sauna, and some of the region’s most beautifully maintained golf courses.
Other Things to Note:
• Maximum occupancy: 4 guests
• No smoking or vaping inside the cabin.
• Dogs are welcome! There is a $100 per pet fee. Please keep them supervised, clean up after them, and review our pet policy before booking.
• No parties or events.
• Please be mindful of our neighbors and observe quiet hours after 10:00 PM.
• Report any accidental damage during your stay — we understand that accidents happen.
Thank you for helping preserve one of Big Canoe’s original log cabins for future guests.
