About the property

The ultimate in mountain living!

Drive to the end of the quiet cul-du-sac in Silverthorne's finest neighborhood, and there you will find a magnificant three million dollar estate situated on an acre of wooded mountaintop. As you enter the impressive double doors and feast on one of many large Remington bronzes, your eyes will immediately be diverted to the great room with its 30 foot ceilings and huge, South facing windows showcasing the Raven golf course, Lake Dillon, and the magnificent mountains in the distance. If it's cold outside, you might rush to the fireplace and light a roaring bonfire! If anyone in your party is musically inclined, they can entertain on the Yamaha grand piano!

Though we have provided pictures of the estate, we urge you to access a virtual tour of the property.

The home is listed for sale at $3.0 million, but there simply is no market for homes this large and expensive. Thus, we expect to keep it as an occasional rental for the next few years.

Tired from your travels? Jump into the jacuzzi tub on the deck of the upstairs master, or go down to the patio, light the gas burning firepit, and soak in the 8 person hot tub! And then sit in the sauna or go to the gym and get on the treadmill!

Now it's time to unpack. The are three master suites on the top floor, and three more bedrooms on the lower level. All have bathrooms en suite, plus there is another bathroom next to the Sauna, and of course the powder room adjacent to the Great Room.

The largest master suite has a king size bed, a gas fireplace, TV, a bar with refrigerator, ice maker, and sink. Additionally, there is a balcony with jacuzzi tub and chairs to admire the view, as well as an office/painting studio. The master bath is world class with a steam shower, heated bubbles for the tub, his and her sinks, and a toilet and bidet. The walk-in closet is huge! If more sleeping space is desired, the alcove off the master has a blow-up queen bed.

The adjacent master is also unique in it own right. It features a king size bed, bathroom, and a sitting area with TV and two couches that fold out into queen beds should more beds be needed. The bathroom has a shower with multiple heads to massage the body.

The third master has a queen size bed, with a view to die for! It has a sitting area with fireplace, TV, and a bathroom with his and her sinks, a shower and a tub.

The main floor has the great room, a library with hundreds of volumes, an office, a dining room with seating for 10, a bar with wine cooler and sink, a breakfast nook with seating for 6, and a stunning granite topped kitchen with 4 bar stools. Dinner for 20 is a cinch without resorting to coffee tables, etc.

The kitchen is sure to please any gourmet! It is fully equipped with everything you can think of. A sub-zero refrigerator/freezer is accompanied by two refrigerator drawers, four burner stove with a grill and griddle, a trash compactor, dishwasher, a thermador double oven, a microwave, and a warming oven.

Off the kitchen is the laundry room, and next to it a storage room for boots, etc. The entire home and garage has in-floor heating, and a central vacuum system makes tidying up a breeze.

The home has over 2,000 square feet of decks, with the biggest expanse off the main floor. There are 8 lounge chairs, and 7 adjustable chairs on the main deck, plus a large BBQ grill and a giant smoker!

Looking down from the main deck, you will see a waterfall cascading into a fish pond, the firepit, and an 8 person Hot Tub.

The lower level houses the entertainment room, complete with a bar (sink, dishwasher, refrigerator, ice maker, glassware), a poker/bumper pool table, a regulation pool table, and a 70" TV. Additionally, there is a small gym with treadmill and TV/DVD, a changing room with shower and toilet, a sink, SAUNA, and a second laundry room.

The fourth bedroom on this level has a queen sized bed, ensuite bathroom with shower, and views over the lake and mountains. The fifth bedroom has a double bed, great views, and an en suite bathroom with a shower. Finally, the sixth bedroom has two bunk beds, doubles on the bottom and singles on top. The bathroom has a combination tub and shower.

As you walk through the home, we hope you will enjoy our collection of paintings, bronzes, and other artifacts. This is not a tired rental where all the 'good stuff' is hidden away. This is our home, and we are only offering it to discerning individuals. We hope you will enjoy your vacation and come back another time.

About george v stein

I am a cable TV executive who retired in 2000 to live in the mountains. My wife and I are avid golfers, skiers, fishermen, hikers, bikers, and all around outdoors people who can enjoy all these activities at our doorstep.

george v stein purchased this estate in 2003

Why george v stein chose Silverthorne

We built this home in 2003 and have enjoyed living in the mountains tremendously. However, as my wife and I are getting older, we are skiing less, and decided to purchase a home in Florida to spend part of the year. Thus, we have decided to lease our home to discerning individuals who would like to experience the best of the Colorado mountains, no matter what time of year.

What makes this estate unique

We spent in excess of $3.0 million building this estate, and you will immediately notice the attention to detail. The kitchen was built for a gourmet chef, with top of the line appliances including rarely included items such as a warming oven, and sub-zero refrigerator drawers. Each of the 7 1/2 baths have unique tile work, and the large logs throughout the home add stately grandeur. The great room, with a 30 foot ceiling that showcases the spectacular views, also has a 20 foot log burning fireplace and a grand piano.

The National Forest begins 500 yards from the home, with great hiking trails in the summer, and snowshoeing in the winter. The nearby golf course offers cross-country skiing.

The magnificent estate is located in the Three Peaks golf community, overlooking the Raven Golf course, the best mountain course in Colorado. Sitting at 9120 feet, the vistas are simply stunning. Besides the Raven, Keystone's River and Ranch courses, and the Breckenridge course are nearby. 30 minutes away, there are numerous Vail Valley courses as well.

Summit County offers world class skiing, the earliest in North America and usually the latest (many years we ski until July 4!) Within a few minutes of the estate are 5 ski resorts, Loveland, Arapahoe Basis, Keystone, Breckenridge, and Copper Mountain. About 30 minutes west is Vail, Beavercreek, and Arrowhead. Two hours away is Aspen. Colorado is renowned for its 'champagne powder', and the multitude of terrain will please beginners through experts!

For sailors, kayakers, fishermen, and pontoon boat cruisers, Lake Dillon's marina is 5 minutes away.

For fishermen, especially fly fishermen, the entire Summit county area is blessed with excellent trout fishing water in differing habitats. Running through the town of Silverthorne is the Gold Medal Blue River, and the Colorado River is a short drive away. Numerous fly shops offer float trips in the Blue, Colorado, Eagle, Roaring Fork, and Frying Pan rivers.

Amazing property...needs some minor maintenance.

  • 4 of 5

The property is beautiful, the views jaw dropping. It is really built like an actual high end lodge (eg Ritz Carlton Beaver Creek). The amenities and convenience items provided are outstanding. My only critique would be there are some items in disrepair. The theater seats were all broken, one of the jacuzzi's had algae all over it. Again, the property is amazing and equipped!

Owner's Response: I am happy that you found my home to rival that of the Ritz Carlton in Beaver Creek. However, I was disappointed to hear that you found algae in one of the hot tubs. I have a maintenance company that services both tubs after each guest visit. I will have a talk with them about this unacceptable situation. As to the theater chairs, a previous renter must have had some rowdy people in the group. I am awaiting parts to fix the theater seats. Again, apologies for the inconvenience. I hope you will consider us again on future vacations.

Hands down, the nicest place that I have ever stayed. The quality of this home is unbeatable. Two hot tubs, a sauna, and a steam shower, take your pick after a day of skiing. We have rented it twice and will rent it again next year.

A Fox in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

Within a few steps into this massive mountain compound, you feel at ease. Is it the multiple levels of comfortable beds and couches? The screening room, workout facility and roaring fireplaces? The gourmet kitchen (a cook's dream!)? Or even the TWO hot tubs? I couldn't pick one favorite thing. I absolutely loved it all. Sitting in the hot tub after a full day of skiing (yes, any and every resort you want to ski at is within a 30 minute drive) with snow falling from the sky, wine to cleanse the palate, fabulous friends around and even, yes friends, and even foxes in the wild running around giving you a sneaky side glance - you cannot picture a more perfect getaway. I cannot wait to come back here to this palace in the woods. This king of kings. This destination into comfort and power. Relaxation and serenity. Adventure ho!

Insane Colorado Retreat!!!

  • 5 of 5

Let's just start with the chef's kitchen...because when you're not on the slopes this is where you might spending all of your time. And when you have that much room to maneuver like your striving for a Michelin Star, and that many amenities to help craft your five course mountain meal...why not, right? Or perhaps you want to relax by the numerous fireplaces, or in the sauna, or in one of the TWO hot tubs offered!! The view is spectacular, and the drive to local markets, golf courses and of course world class skiing all feel right around the corner. I want to go back. Tomorrow. Today really.

This is a wonderful house. Very large and would accomadate many families. We had a great stay and it is very centrally located. We skied 5 different resorts and we were 30-45 away. I would highly reccomend this house.

I do wish the patios had been cleared off some but I would reccomend this property. The pictures don't do it justice.
